Going to have to agree with the OP. Hate. Hate. Hate specializations. Particularly since they are so far from created equal, it is to laugh. I didn't play Gal Civ II, I hate Steam. Handle it. I came from Gal Civ I, which I loved so much, I backed Gal Civ III, in spite of Steam, which I hate. Gal Civ I feels like an endless field of techs to run through, each connected to the last. Gal Civ III feels like a narrow corri

"Running battles" are historically legitimate. Why shouldn't it be a factor? Also, if my ships have better engines, and inferior weapons/defenses, why exactly am I sticking around to die? "Jumping to hyperdrive" and "jumping to warp" are both longstanding canonical options. Why do we move into the future, lose options, and get dumber? Sigh.

I certainly hope so. I don't really care so much about "mining" per se, I just want them gone. Ditto with worthless zero worlds.

Why can't we continue to pour research points into a given tech to continue to improve it? Makes no sense to me. Seems Stardock is moving in the opposite direction with this, and I'm not deeply offended by it, but I can't support it. More tech, more options for each tech, more tech than you can possibly research in a single game. Options are never bad. Removing them, on the other hand...

I agree wholeheartedly, I've been saying this for a while. Where's the 1D-2D-3D-4D phasing? Where's the teleporters? Where's the terror stars? I read in the notes somewhere Antimatter Missiles are supposed to be back in, but why oh why every time we go to the "future" do options and tech vanish? Why are we more limited? Where's the advances? The adaptation? The ability to turn useless d

Perhaps when you gift/trade planets to another faction, they should be temporarily/permanently immune to your influence, barring a set of defined circumstances, like war.

Hmm, I had my first custom race elected with a solid majority of both minors and majors, and in a later game, literally everyone voted for me. The entire galaxy. In my latest game, I defied the UP, suffered no setbacks, and proceeded to absorb everyone nearby. I'm currently in control of about 45% of an excessive map, without the UP bonus. I have no idea who is the leader of the UP at the moment, that might be interesting to check. I find

I just buy the problem starbase, blow it up, and build my own. I do agree, however, they are clearly exceeding the limitations of their tech. My personal fave is everything under your nose getting stolen in an excessive+ map with tight clusters on. They can't reach you, but somehow they're stealing your stuff. My buddy mentioned the possibility of sending a fleet through a wormhole using a surveyor, but a bug is more likely.

A further thought. I'm reminded of old maps, which show national borders. In this game, that tapestry-of-colour basically doesn't happen, you never get a pretty map of adjoining nations, just an expanding stain of one nation's influence, wiping out all before it in a tsunami. Cultural takeover is well and good, and the primary way I play, but couldn't it stand a bit of diversification? I'd also point out traditional land use agre

So, several times the discussion has popped up that other civs should become hostile with you because they're so happy with you, and joining your faction. I find this nonsensical, as I should have just pointed out, but some folks feel this is not the case. Perhaps a middle road? If we are allied, should our cultures not join, and work together, rather than be taken as competitive? I could understand a situation wherein one culture is overwhelmin

Random thoughts. It strikes me as sort of odd to utterly eradicate an enemy. Historically, that very rarely happens. It would make more sense to me that the enemy be reduced to the state of a Minor power, influence be shut off, no longer loses last world. On the flipside, if a Minor power achieved enough overall ... power.... shouldn't they upgrade to a Major, and start accumulating influence? Just random thoughts. Anyone e

Further notes. Apparently, "Defy UP" doesn't mean "refuse to vote", it means " withdraw from UP", which was always traditionally labelled "withdraw from UP", wasn't it? Perhaps I'm only thinking of Gal Civ 1. No "spoil your ballot"? No "abstain from voting"? Just space tyranny? Niiiiiiiiiiiiiiice.

UP feedback. I hate voting for the top six powers only. This must have been borrowed from the Canadian political system, wherein only a tiny fraction of the population are genuinely represented. UP should be direct democracy, proportional representation at worst. I've thought of other stuff, however, this is the first thing that irks me enough to alt-tab and rush to the forums. Argh.<br

Yes, you have to exit entirely, and reload the game, to get a new start. Annoying. Yes, please, Ctrl-N!
