Is that what the inner/outer circles are supposed to mean? Because I only have one circle, and both the Krynn (close) and Drengin (hostile) are in it. So are others that are friendly, warm, unfriendly, and cool.

I don't know what pirates are meant to do, all I can speak to is what I've seen them do. They hide in anomalies to make it more difficult to harvest them. They have starports in nebulas that pump out raiding ships, but their ships (so far) are limited to a 1 tile move, so they don't represent much of a threat. I did get careless and lose a scout. They don't seem able to build transports, so they can't invade planets.
It's not random, but they were beefed up too much. The patch notes for beta 6 say that it is fixed and that it is intended that a survey ship with full hit points should be able to beat the pirates.
I'm not sure what you mean by STRG, but I agree that the left over research points should be applied to the next tech THAT I SELECT, and this should also apply to the points given by ideology traits.
You think like I do, I pick all the same ones you choose as highest benefit, and then often go back and do the ones you have flagged as secondary. I'm not looking forward to the proposed change, I'd rather it stay the way it is.
On #2, what race were you playing as? When playing as Altarian or a custom race using Altarian ship designs, I've seen the same thing. I mentioned it in another thread, and Derek thought it might be related to the race. On #1, I've seen pirate starports, but not starbases. On #5, try viewing the tech tree instead of the default tech window. Button is on the lower left.
It's a polish issue, not a bug, but I find it annoying when I have created a custom faction with its own race name, choose the Altarian tech tree, and then research a tech such as carriers and see a reference to "Altarian fighters" instead of the name of my custom race. Would that be possible to change without modding the tech tree?

The pirates in my game don't seem to be affected by the nebula.
I'm playing as a custom race using the Altarian tech tree, but I expect the same problems could be found playing as Altarian. The Entertainment Center does not upgrade to Stadium, and there appears no way to build a Stadium. Instead, there are Healing Pools (stolen from the Torians in GC2 if I remember correctly) that upgrade to Meditation Centers. So if you build an Entertainment Center, there's no upgrade path, since it won't upgrade to either a Stadium or a
Not sure if this is a bug or WAD. I had thought that the -25% hit points penalty in a radiation storm nebula meant that while you were in the nebula, your hit points were temporarily reduced 25%. For example, a ship with base 60 hp would be treated in a battle as if it had 45 hp, and then after it emerged from the battle and nebula, it would have 60 hp again. How it works, though, is that if you have a battle in the nebula, you lose that 25% hp even if your ship took no dama
I managed to reproduce the problem and sent in a saved game with ticket #EDT-621-79327.
I saw the same thing and assumed it was just patch 3 going from opt-in to everybody gets it.
This is still happening in Beta 5 .83. Once again I don't have a save, sorry.

In my .83 game I've got a minor race mining durantium and a precursor relic. Perhaps mine didn't go bankrupt as fast as yours.

Not sure what he's using, but I use Jing (free) to capture the image and Dropbox to share it.
If they have the right racial trait (I think it's Intuitive) they get a bunch of research points to start with.
I reported this a beta or two ago but never had a saved game that would reproduce it when loaded. If you do have one you should open a support ticket.

Opt-in patch .82 fixed the problem of ideology points not being deducted when you make an ideology pick, so it should be very difficult now to fill up a tree, much less fill up all 3 trees.
This thread reports that the problem is real and affects both the Yor and the Krynn tech trees.
Still having issues with surprise pirate attacks, in anomalies. Artocarpus Viriles trade resource still doesn't have an image
I've noticed both of these also. If I remember correctly the pirate attack with no warning was supposed to have been fixed in .81, but while I don't see it anywhere near as often as I used to, I did see it once in .82. By the way, bug reports get quicker attention from the developers if they are po
