The PC is great because of the vast range of customization possible (hardware and software - wise). The thing that is horrible about the PC is... the same thing. With any complex software release you aren't going to see a lot of the game breaking problems (crashes, etc.) until you get a lot of people using it. 100,000 user = 100,000 different computers. PC development is not for the faint of heart. Which is why EA for something like GC3 is

Thanks for the Hanar! But...oh MY!!! I only have 93 factions now?! What to do? Guess I could work on making a few myself, I suppose. But GIMP is a problem...I have to LEARN something. Ouchies.... [e digicons]8(|[/e]

I have several mod files that I have gotten from others on the forum for custom races, as well as faction files (which serve the same purpose but are located in a different directory. From time to time while the game is changing a lot, I tend to reinstall (I have about 60Mbps download from FIOS, so it's not a big issue). But before I reinstall I rename the C:\Users\Bamdorf\Documents\My Games\GalCiv3 file something else, like Galciv3_old. Then remove the program t

The core of this community is quite happy to be corrected and to admit a mistake. I know I am, or at least I try to be. Ironic, maybe, but this is evidence that the discussions are generally higher quality than you get in most forums. People who own up are more believeable, not less.
Fair enough but since wormholes do exist in the game and allow instant transit over huge distances. A technology to generate a wormhole type stargate remains a possibility.
The existing wormholes are one way and not controllable. And it seems to me so far (could be wrong) that only survey ships can use them. Not so sure I think that's a good idea either...it allows one to contact other f

As was said, if you move your mouse to the lower right hand production queue panel (in the colony screen) and hover over a blank space, it will show you how much carryover you have currently.

One thing that just occurred to me is that my first priority is that the development of the game continue full speed ahead. Exactly when this patch comes out or what they call release is way down the list. I certainly don't know what the best procedure is to accomplish this. I am thinking SD should have a better clue, but they don't have a crystal ball either. So far, so good,I suppose. I actually thought for a while that pushing 1.0 back another month mi

First, use Jing if you don't have it already to get screenshots or whatever. A very nice easy program. So set up a free dropbox account if you need, drag and drop the pix or whatever in there, then click the share button at the end of the line of your picture. Copy the link, edit as above, then in your post click the image button and put the link into the top line and you should be good.

1. My personal opinion is that instant travel across major chunks of the galaxy destroys the idea of a big galaxy in the first place. As travel gets faster, the world gets smaller. As it gets instantaneous, the world disappears. Well, not really, but regrets, I just don't like the idea of permanent gates. 2. Ranged attacks. The current system of abstraction is that fleets somehow find each other in the vastness of space and for the duration o

I have had one CTD with 1.02 playing a game started in 1.0. I had autosave at 5 turns so I wasn't close to the "crash" spot. However, I sent in the troubleshooting data as it seems, particularly on an opt-in, that you guys want the dump and support files regardless. Obviously a save game just before a repeatable crash is easier to work with, but cannot always be provided. I restarted with fresh game with 1.02 and no problems so far. </

I just did a "test" with 1.02. I had a manufacturing tech finish up. There was no extra research points showing in the research bar. I switched to a new tech in the commerces area to get a trade route. When I selected the tech, it said 3 turns to finish. Still no indication in the research bar. Then I hit "turn". The research bar went to 60% full and it now said 1 turn remaining. And indeed it finished on the next turn. So

I hardly think anyone is going to accuse you of being unsupportive. You have been a leader in this community. That said, I think the whole business of what is release or not has become relative, because of the internet. Except for one thing: trade reviews. Bad reviews will tend to stick no matter what happens. So the publisher has to weigh this and make a tough decision. I have noted elsewhere that the top games in many cases did not hit their stride unt

First, let me say that I don't know how the diplomatic effects are calculated and how that translates into diplomacy. At present, all I see are (1) nothing, (2) your ideology is different, or (3) your ideology is the same. That being said, I would suggest that the diplomatic effects be tailored to a scale of differences. One simple example. I have 5 benevolent traits and 4 pragmatic traits. My neighbor has 4 benevolent traits and 5 pragmatic traits. &nb
The guy paid 60 bucks for the game. It gives him the right to gripe. As for this being your house, how about you try to remember who paid for the house. Yeah, paying customers paid for your house. The guy has some valid concerns. Instead of attacking him for it, try to act professional and address him in a mature way. Maybe some classes in customer service and relations need to be given at Stardock.
I would like to respo

Look at world history. Isn't clear that terrans are inherently good? Oh, I forgot, they don't teach history anymore. My bad! Actually I see two problems in this ideology business. First that the degree of difference skould figure in: pragmatic-ben should have less impact than mal-ben; second, the tolerance level of a race should figure. To some extent the latter seems to be working, but there could be more done with this.
Enjoyed it Bamdorf, great read. I noticed that you didn't mention resources or relics. Are you skipping them in your game or just down playing them? I am currently playing a game on the settings that Larsenex talked about and relics have been a major part of my game. In fact, they are so good, I am considering cutting back on them going forward. There are so many, most are going to waste and I have criminal bonuses

Please note: DO NOT turn off virtual memory because you have 16 gB or more and you don’t see the game using nearly that much. Turning it off c

First, it's a great idea to keep a healthy cash balance. Second, one ought to be able to refuse any "gifts". Just because someone wants to surrender doesn't mean you should have to accept. I should always be able to say, no, going to kill you. Third, one should be able to see what the total bill is going to be if one upgrades multiple ships ---- and a corollary to this is that one ought to see a summary of what one gets if the other guy surrenders. &n

Of course you are right, the approval bonus just adds into the sum of the multiplicative bonuses. After all the head banging against the wall I did to finally get the calculations to come out right, I made a sloppy error. Thanks for a good catch! I also think your suggestions for naming conventions or codes, if you will, makes sense for a lot of people, Personally the "immersion" thing for ME is not affected, but that, as many other things, is just my slant.

As an end user, I cannot discuss sensibly some of the technical details from the point of view of the modders. But I can say how my mod use has evolved over the past few years. i speak mainly of Skyrim. At first I just grabbed Workshop items, it seemed convenient. But then I found some mods were not available on Steam, and that these sites supported mod managing better than the Workshop, among other issues. And very quickly I went to not using the Works
The difference between Production and Manufacturing are most likely the greatest source of confusion in this whole debate and they should really be explained or rather the difference in the game should be more clear.
