My Dell xps 8100 is 3.5 years old. I still have the original equipment - 8 gb, 3.2 ghz i5, (it says multicore 2, hyperthread 4) 1 Tb HD, AMD HD 5700 video. I still can't see any reason to update it. It would be nice to have a SS drive but its not necessary. I don't play "twitch" games like action shooters, so I don't need max frame rates. My reflexes are such that I just get frustrated with those types anyway. Whe

Interesting. I have been playing quite a bit, and I have never had a CTD. But I have had a problem with UI freezes, which is different. (The music still plays, sometimes you can hear a mouse click, etc.) Oh well I am really hoping on the next release.

I've had the freezing problem, but it has gotten better, especially since the last beta release. I used to get freezes that reappeared each time I reloaded the same save (last one before the freeze). That doesn't happen anymore. Right now I am running with my antivirus and anti malware real time protection off, auto saves off, but I can't really say they are involved. Managed to finish an influence game --- it required 95% influence...I guess that should be tweaked! Medium galaxy max opponents, only had a couple more freeze ups. Mine seem to occur when a new prompt shows up in the lower right corner, like "research", and I thien find I can no longer interact with the program. I am running autosaves at 2 turns so its not too much of an issue at this point.</sp

Ah, well, no replies and I finally this morning had a UI freeze with the Steam Overlay off. So I guess I will chalk my testing up to coincidences and keep looking for what might be going on. And/or wait for the next update and see what happens.
Just one question. After you got GC2, and spent the time to learn to play it, and actually enjoyed the game (I presume, or you wouldn't have gone through the learning curve) did you then bother to go back and PAY for a legit copy? Unless I missed you didn't mention it. Stealing is stealing.
Some testing I have done over the past 2-3 days suggests that the Steam Overlay may be related to UI freezes in GalCiv 3. Anyone else see this behavior?

I have occasional freezes, in which the game interface simply fails to respond (i.e., ESC doesn't work). I have to ctrl-alt-del out and end task to recover. There don't seem to be any error messages (I do have "collect game data" checked but don't know if that helps). Is there a way to report this usefully? I note that loading an autosave and replaying
