I dare hope that everyone who bought the 99$ founder package did so because they are fans of GalCiv AND love Stardock. I also hope all of the elite founders have realistic expectations as to what an Alpha is likely to be like. But I believe the GalCiv III elite founders will meet those criteria in vast majority. For this reason I think the alpha of GalCiv III will be a positive experience for everyone. Unlike some of those Al
Not rushing is key to building a successful town.
I totally agree, a rushed growth will lead you to trouble. Not building houses too quickly to control your pop growth allows you to make reserves. I think I have about 15k stored food atm. I try to keep 1k food reserve by 10 pop. Worked pretty well so far, at one time I had a scary food drop but

I have to agree so far about this game being remarkably addictive considering how apparently simple it is. It also runs very smoothly on my computer, is rather free of bug and overall very polished. I really like the UI for the most part. Very impressive for a lone man's work. My hat's off to him. So, what is the current record for population on this forum? My town currently have about 150 people. I would say I am doing pretty good so far, maxed out health and ha

I have indeed found that in almost any circumstances in GalCiv2, larger hull ships are always preferable to smaller ones. Not only do they have better HP/cost ratio but also more weapon space/BC. But that is not all, since attack/defense during combat is calculated on a per ship basis and not on a per fleet basis, larger ships will always be better at negating enemy attacks when using armor and better at overcoming enemy defense when using attack. Even at

Well, ship production for me it goes roughly as follow: 1. Colony rush phase : Homeworld and a few other planets with production bonuses get Spaceports and are producing ships. ( mostly colony ships of course). About 10-15% at the end of colony phase have spaceports and are building ships. All other worlds are focusing on social infrastructure. 2. Development phase : Here I decide what specialization most of the worlds get, most average-low PQ worlds become econ

Screw them tablets. I much prefer gaming sitting comfortably with a cold beer in front of my 26'' monitor. :P Anyway, I have terrible farSighted vision problem. So anything that is not a big screen at a reasonable distance is synonymous with eyestrain for me. Even with glasses. So portable gaming has never been an option for me.

Wether HoMM series would count as a 4x is debatable since it is not exactly what most people expect of a traditional 4x, but you indeed do each of the four X in it so yeah, i guess. If we count HoMM as a 4x we might as well count Total war games as 4X too.
2. Yeah starbases in GalCiv are great. They allow some really interesting strategic choices. I'll always remember when I stopped a superior Drengin attack by rushing military support bases. The concept also kind of migrated to the world of Elemental with the Outposts.

I have used a Logitech G4 for a long time and in retrospective it kinda sucked. It never felt comfortable in my hand, and I was kind of clumsy with it. Also, I would always press the Sensitivity up button when trying to press the middle wheel. Part of it because the wheel was so damn stiff. But about a year ago I found a yellowed Intellimouse in the garbage while dumpster diving. I tried it and, hell, it's so much nicer! Been using it since.

Some other discussions on the forum prompted me to think about what would be my top 5 favourite 4X games ever. While I am pretty sure about the two firsts, the 3 others are not as certain. There are a few other games I considered but I eventually settled with this. This is a For Fun thread, do not feel obligated to explain your choices. Hopefully this might prompt some people to try some games they did not before, or discover some underdog gems. Although in my case my choices are quit
in terms of the actual 4X genre and its original target audience, it has been downhill for quite a while, mainly because of there being negative progress since civ4/galciv2 the money (eg. civ5's customers) comes from people who want to run an empire or look at cool things, not people who actually have a clue about the decision-making involved in any of the 4 X's
GalCiv2 and Civ4 are my two favourite 4x

Haha, that`s alot of Ifs :p Yes Stardock is a great company with an attitude unlike most others. That is part of the reason I like to support them. This being said, on the other similar thread Brad posted this:
We'll definitely need an overlay on the alpha. The biggest problem I see in alphas is people will find them boring. Alphas ARE boring. Take your favorite game, doesn't matter

It is hard to tell if the niche is shrinking or not. The overall player base is probably getting bigger when you consider that more people than ever before have PC. But the ratio between the cost to develop a modern game vs. potential buyers maybe slowly shrinking as you said. I would not be able to say. Some 4x derived franchise like Total War are doing fairly well on the market.
I'm 50/50 on buying this game. I've read this discussion and the reviews on steam. The main con for me is that the game is described as a lot of sitting around staring at the screen; things happen very slowly. A lot of down time for the player. Have you experienced this? Not to imply I want things to happen fast, just that I do not want to wait and wait and wait for something to happen or a reason for me to interact wi

In my case everything seemed fine just before. I thought that maybe i had accidentally selected ''gather ressources'' to some random unreachable place. The folks start walking and if I click on them it says ` working or Fetching ressource `Even the freaking Teacher is doing it. Then they seem to get stuck in a loop when they reach the corner of the map and only come back to the town if they are cold or hungry, and usually die before reaching town. I tried
