Once the Alpha is out, what is OK to post publicly?

I remember a thread where someone asked if it was ok to post videos of the Alpha or Beta on Youtube. The answer was along the lines of `Ok but with conditions`. And I had the feeling this maybe was not the most appropriate thing to do.

Suppose, for example, someone wanted to write an AAR with screenshots of the alpha. Would it be ok to post that publicly on the Stardock Forum?

the only real stipulation they had was that you state clearly the footage is alpha.

We don't do click-through NDAs. So you can assume that if you have not been asked to sign one, you can post as you please.

The only restriction currently in place is no redistribution of founders' vault content.

Stardock is the last defenders of free speach. :)

I'd vote for Brad if he became an independent president candidate, and if I was an american of course.

Haha, that`s alot of Ifs :p

Yes Stardock is a great company with an attitude unlike most others. That is part of the reason I like to support them.

This being said, on the other similar thread Brad posted this:

We'll definitely need an overlay on the alpha.

The biggest problem I see in alphas is people will find them boring. Alphas ARE boring.

Take your favorite game, doesn't matter which game, change the balance a little and it's terrible.  Imagine Civilization IV if it took 50 turns to build a settler. That one change would ruin it.  An alpha of a 4X game is like that. It'll be horribly boring to play and if people try to judge "fun" on an alpha it takes us all to a very bad place.

The Alpha exists for these reasons:

1) Compatibility (it's a 64-bit, DirectX 11 game, there's going to be problems)

2) Game mechanics. What gotchas do you imagine seeing going forward?

3) Game ideas.  What things would you like to see in there?

End of Frogboy's quote

It seems pretty clear that we should all be very careful about what we put on the net regarding the Alpha, especially outside this forum. Even though we did not sign any kind of NDA as kryo said, that does not mean we do not have to exert proper judgment about what we post. We are entrusted with the Alpha to help Stardock.

I agree wholeheartedly.  Id I post anything -it will be edited to show both the good bits, and the challenges.  If it doesn't present well. I will save it for the vault and the developers.

Well, one of the most Wrong thing to do would be to write something like a negative review based on the Alpha, or even Beta. To make it even worse, make it so that is is not clear that it is being based on an early version of the game.  And then put it in a place so that it might be found up to much later by just about anyone looking for a review of the game.

I agree that ideas and criticisms should be reserved to the postings that us founders are supposed to post where ever that is. The alpha and betas are not finished products. As far as the content that are going to be streamed we should try to make it look nice. Any reviews should probably be posted in where ever the founders post for ideas after the alpha comes out should go unless you have more good things to say what you think the game is going to be based on the alpha.
