At which point we'll instead have people complaining about how small ships are useless once larger ones are researched.
Isnt it already the case? In galciv 2, larger hulls always give you more bang for your buck. And obsolete ships do 0 damage to a properly defended ship, making it totally useless, Beside for military ranking in diplomacy.
But really, what was the alternative? Applying the PQ loss even on losing invasions would have led to exploits the other way, using multiple one-person transports to fail at invasions and wreck really tough worlds down to PQ1 without ever even attempting to take them. 5-6 empty transports would reduce any planet to uselessness. And since the AI wouldn't build over it's buildings, all you would really have to do is
I was doing pretty good with my first town. Worker pop around 40, but then I ran into some kind of bug. My people start massively walking in big number toward one corner of the map and they starve or freeze to death. They just all seemingly go there and they loop back. If they are lucky they come back before dying of starvation. That is a serious bummer :(
We'll definitely need an overlay on the alpha. The biggest problem I see in alphas is people will find them boring. Alphas ARE boring. Take your favorite game, doesn't matter which game, change the balance a little and it's terrible. Imagine Civilization IV if it took 50 turns to build a settler. That one change would ruin it. An alpha of a 4X game is like that. It'll be horribly boring
I like the invasion mechanic in GalCiv 2 but it allows for some cheesy stuff, and I am sure you all do it. I am talking about using first transport with planetary bombardment, reduce enemy pop to like 1.5b then second transport use standard warfare and conquer it. Net result is you greatly benefit from planetary bombardment but do not suffer the infrastructure damage penalty.
I ended up getting the game. Just finished the tutorial and started my first town.
I am very tempted to try this game. Sounds like i will like it. I am a masochistic gamer. From what I understand this game is still WIP though.
I don't think I even played it 100 hours. Maybe 100h at most. Glad you thoroughly enjoyed the game though. Still, 100 hours for a game is pretty good in my book. That means I did enjoy the game. I can count the games I have played over 1000 hours on my hand.
Welcome aboard! You have the GalCiv III founder badge under your user account so all looks good. :) Currently we only have access to the founder's vault. ( Head to the game tab on the top bar of the GalCiv3.com site ) It contains some screenshots and music from the prototype and other goodies. But as an Elite founder you will have access to the Alpha version which is expected in late march.
Here is an idea. One cool way to make use of say, Gas giants, could be that some of them contain hidden resources. Like some very rare and powerful substance that can only be found on this planet. ( Was slightly inspired by Dune and the Spice here ) It works a bit like a space resource or allows some specific techs etc. The twist is they are rare and you would need to survey the planets first to know if its they have something interesting or not.
I think this is Delicate. I like the way Civ4 implemented the Great people. They are a nice addition, they involve strategical choices and are not overpowered. When the RPG/heroes elements become very strong in a 4x (ex: elemental), It seems that this tends to make tight strategic planning less important as you can always send your uber hero deal with a problematic situation. This also somewhat happened in Endless space. My first real game was set to Hard d
I usually play with auto launch, but thanks to the planet/ship screen I find this is still happening that still I have colony ships that are still parked at planets. I remember a thread where someone asked if it was ok to post videos of the Alpha or Beta on Youtube. The answer was along the lines of `Ok but with conditions`. And I had the feeling this maybe was not the most appropriate thing to do. Suppose, for example, someone wanted to write an AAR with screenshots of the alpha. Would it be ok to post that publicly on the Stardock Forum?
Korx, for the money! I love how they're the Ferengi of the GalCiv universe. Money is power.
I like the Korx too! In my last game they ended up being my Best evil buddy forever. Game long trade partner and ally while the rest of the galaxy wanted to obliterate us.
I always play custom Civs but I gotta say I think I like the Yor best too. `OMG we are surrounded by meat based civilizations, WHY!! ' I ought the make a pure Yor game next, instead of my usual custom civs.

I would say moons and Gaz giants would be a nice place to look at. I like complex games, but how complex is too complex? Endless space allows you to colonize gaz giants and use moons but it is also a simpler game than GalCiv in several regards. What'
Actually, I couldn't play without the planet/ship tag. When I am in colony rush stage, occasionally I will miss right clicking on a "colony ship done' icon, and the ship won't launch. Every 20 turns or so I will page through my colony ships and see if one or more are still in orbit. But that's the minor use I have. My main use is still during colony rush. Launch a colony ship, click planet/ship tag
Well, because this whole "fluff number" thread is really fun, I decided to make a poll about it. :D VOTE VOTE VOTE VOTE http://www.easypolls.net/poll.html?p=530d5079e4b0bec4ad7a7870
The description of "elemental 3" ( Can we call it like that? ) really reminds me of Master of Magic. Which is not a bad thing :p I am curious as to what the visual style of the game will be. Honestly I was not a big fan of the Cartoonish style of the other games. Glad to hear that StarDock is doing well. You guys are my favourite company when it comes to PC games.

Personally I would just have the "fluff data" there, I like the measurement units. They also already have them programmed and the suggestion was to have them taken out. Ultimately it wont break or make the game obviously but notice how this whole thread has been taken over by this arguably petty debate? So for some obscure reason it seems that some people like them. I think a screen full of numbers is easier to look at with the measurement units, especially when al
