Those are some interesting numbers, Dan. Mine might not be exactly apples to apples because I'm not familiar with doing a soak test. I just loaded, hit end turn and clicked on whatever popped up. Your system seems to be able to get through an extra turn. Mine crashed at turn 502 while yours went to 503 before crashing. I assume that I'd need to make a shortcut and add "cheat" to the end in order to get to the console, bring the console up
I'll run some testing on this later to give you another data set. I've got a 4690k, 16GB of RAM, and a GTX970. E: Well I was going to run some testing but I can't get it to load. It just throws off a CTD about 20 seconds into the loading. Not really sure what the cause is. It's definitely not an out of memory crash since physical memory usage doesn't even reach 8GB (from a baseline of 2GB). Perhaps its crash
As to the idea, well, what if influence buildings increased ideology production, but didn't generate it themselves? Give each cultural building +20% ideology generation per turn for each type. That way, they do nothing without the actual ideology improvements present, but a big cultural world can pump out a lot of ideology points over time.
That's a good idea. I'm not familiar with WPA/WPR, but I did a recording session with the game. I'm not clear on precisely what the numbers mean, but the graphs seem to indicate that both cores and all 4 threads are being utilized pretty well. I overlaid my CPU-Z report so you can do an apples to apples thing. I had to interact with the game on some turns, which would add a few seco

I'm sure the RAMDisk was faster in absolute terms, but I didn't notice a difference in the real world. I did a backup through Steam to my HDD and tha
Thanks! When I get home (and after chores and such), I'll grab the WPA and your savegame and run a turn. My machine is on the opposite spectrum as yours as far as CPU cores. i3, so only 2 cores. It'll probably report 4 cores cue to hyperthreading. We'll see tonight. 32GB of RAM, so it should be able to run your map. Again, we'll see. My graphics card is a 2GB EVGA GTX 760 SC. As I put in your +1 Karma note - Outstanding info! I might be missing it, but what graphics card(s) are you using?
I'd like to see an option to turn off the auto ship designer. I never, ever build a game designed ship, but when I go to upgrade a ship in the field, I have to scroll past those annoying designs. Maybe I'm missing it, but I only see and "ALL" tab when I upgrade. I'll look harder next time. I obsolete the designs, but new ones keep popping up.
I bought the founder elite edition a long time ago but I don't recall getting an opportunity to name a star - was there an email or forum post or something i missed? - and I didn't see my name in the founder credits. Now I'm worried I'm not properly registered as a founder for the DLCs.
If you're an Elite Founder, you can check to see if you're properly registered by checking to see if you have the Map DLC. Elite
As for requesting games with fewer races involved, some of us can help there, too. I'm playing large maps with vanilla races, so I can't set a game up with double digit players. At least I don't know of a way to do that yet. I don't see a lot of the problems that are being reported, so I'm not sure what I can do, but I'm willing to try to duplicate them. I'm sure the majority of players are willing too, especially founders. We all have an
For ships, I go for more speed and then space. If you want more power, you can always add another weapon. I also just go for missiles and no defenses. Missiles are a great standoff weapon. If I have space for a shield or armor, I figure one more missile should fit there. Until I can get carriers. Then it's all carriers.
I saw this yesterday after the unannounced update, but figured it was because I was playing a game that started before the update. Maybe something in that download did it?
I purchased and downloaded this content. When I click on load maps I see all of the ones listed, except for Milky Way. Do I need to do something different to access this map?
I read somewhere, a while back that they limited the map size according to your RAM size. I tried searching and can't find the post, though. How much RAM do you have?
Doubtful, since 1.1 is still in opt-in mode. They need to get it squared away before starting a new one. There was, however, an update yesterday. My game had a CTD and when I tried to reload, the update had to download first. I didn't notice anything new.
I did. I saw no difference zoomed all the way in on a blank spot on the map and zoomed out to icon level at the edge of the map. I loaded a game and ended the turn on the same turn in both instances and the time was right at 8 seconds. I underestimated my ship count. It was 87 at the time of the test. A lot of these are constructors and transports, but there are some survey ships and carriers wandering around too. [quote who="gmaxson" rep
You can idle a shipyard. There's a button toward the bottom of the shipyard screen that says to shut down or something like that. It'll stay idle until you tell it to resume. You can also set the production sliders on all of the assigned planets to 100% social, but that's a pain. If you want to shut down all of your shipyards, you can set the global slider to 100% social as long as all of your assigned planets are using the global one. I don't
You and I were writing at the same time. 1. Food raises your pop cap. It doesn't help you grow faster though. 2. +X Food does one of several things. If it's on a tile, it adds +1 pop capability if you put a farm or other pop building there. If it's on a building, it raises your pop level by 1. If it's an adjacency bonus, it adds +1 pop capability to a farm or other pop building that's built next to it. 3. &
I like pirates. I use them to protect my planets early on. If you build a sensor ship (a cargo ship with a bunch of sensors), you can see out a good distance. Your colony ships should be a tad faster than pirates and you can go around them. I like to use a fast scout or constructor to move the pirates to where I want them. Just move close enough that they notice you, but just outside their movement range. They'll follow you around like puppy dogs. Just jet ou
I forgot to mention - I stay zoomed out to the icon level, but not all the way out. That way, I can still see what's going on and also be able to go to an empty map area when I need to. I've read somewhere that zooming in can slow things down a lot. I'll test out zooming in to see if it makes any difference, but in my current game, I'm at the end of mopping up. Most of the ships out there are mine and I don't spam military ships. I never see
OK, I get it! Spam nothing but colony ships. Colony ship rush. If that's actually is the only way to win on large maps, then it almost seems like a game flaw... Yes, spamming colony ships as fast as possible is probably a good way to get ahead of an AI on territory, but you still have to actually do the research to get ships and weapons. Hmmmm. OK, I'm going to try both ways and s
