Pre-Congrats! 9 to go Wooo! Then you are going to work on Klingons right? Major kudos to you, I'm very proud of my own designs, but you have to replicate a certain look, I've only done that a couple of times and I must admit its very taxing. When you are not under such restraint you still fidget with every part and can agonize but there just isn't that pressure.

Since the file is most likely lacking multiple layers (its all one image) the only way I know is to manually delete the background image, and then utilize blue commands to smooth the edges of your character. Another trick, is if your image is big enough, just resize/crop the image to 1920 by 1080 and use the whole thing. The whole image will simply overlap your chosen background image.

I vastly prefer the new system. Before, we had too many techs that did too little and there was really no meaningful choices because you could just grab them all. Now, I feel like I have to earn my techs and my choices matter. Could the choices be made to be more difficult and less no-brainer? Sure, and that will come in time. But I prefer a game with meaningful choices rather than "gotta catch them all".

I try not to have strong reactions to things, especially in games, and especially especially in beta... but boy howdy do I DESPISE the new lighting. Ships are seem to have become super bright and super reflective. Or is this just me?

I'm not exactly certain what your issue is precisely, but in general I can tell you that I avoid using the symmetry commands entirely. Why? A.) They mess up animations often B.) They don't show up when I make a grouped part out of the model C.) Because I'm crazy. So yeah, I place another copy of the part and I agonizingly ensure that I duplicate the measurements and placement figures. Annnnnd then I get annoyed when 2.1 on one

Well, basically goto animation, then rotate, you choose which dimension to oscillate, x, y, or z. Then a speed, for testing I recommend a high speed like 80, then check oscillate. Now you have to choose your angle, most of what th see above is at 20, so it's oscillating by 20 degrees. Then you also have the, option to base this animation on the hard point or not. Once you have the movement you want, you'll want to adjust the angle of the ob

Neat. Looks like they carry shields! I finally finished my organic ship set. Or at least I can call it finished, it has one of each hull class. While I'm very happy with how they came out, I got really sick of making them, so I think I'm done with them for a while. Back to boxes in space! I know I've posted videos before, so there is really only two new designs, the large and huge hulls. Skip to 1:30 if you want to just get to them. </p

Advice for ship designing... Well firstly, I always intend to design ships as part of a set, so I try to make sure there are common elements found in every design throughout the set usually. 1) I always start by designing the Medium class ship, this is the workhorse of many navies and so it comes up a lot in games, this will then guide me for the Large, Huge, classes. 2) Once I've designed the Medium, I'll take note of what engine

I also like this idea, it reminds of Sins of a Solar Empire and how loyalty degraded with distance, but local culture centers boosted this. [quote who="jmccrea" reply="1" id="3537978"] Basically a way to try and limit how fast you can expand by slapping you with an unhappiness penalty. There is a trait that custom factions can take that eliminates that, which is helpful if you are going to go crazy. Cant imagine how bad it would be on a huge huge map...

I agree that if starbases producing their own modules on their own power and cost the empire nothing... there is little or no point to even managing them. At that point you should just plop them down, choose the type, and then they should just "evolve" to be bigger and better Starbase over time. Hence sponsoring them with SOMETHING (Planets, Shipyards, or a third industry slider) is necessary to make it a choice that costs you something. And while I understand t

Thanks for the update! Looking forward to the stability enhancements and the AI enhancements. GalCiv 3 is becoming really really fun! Now- insert shameless plug to let me make custom ship sets for my custom races- :)

I personally love that we can make large sensor ships. But, what I don't like, is how useless sensors are on normal ships. I'd like sensors to grant a small accuracy bonus so you don't feel its a complete waste on combat ships to have sensors.

Hi there! 1) No you cannot scale an entire design. Though, you can scale up and down a custom component. So if you save your whole ship as a component and then make a design with only that component, you could scale it up or down. Not terribly useful I'm wagering, and some components won't obey this when part of a custom component. 2) Nope, for now, you can't make a race use your own designs by default. At least not without modding. </p

I was wondering when someone would do a space battlesuit race or something. Personally I'm thinking of having a transport that is clearly carrying battlesuits ready for orbital insertion. What you've done is really cool! Looking forward to more as you get a handle on your ideas! Oscillate the legs!? @Hamilmac @Allanmadragoran @Boli_Delish THANK YOU for the positive comments! In my planet sponsorship idea, you would simply add manufacturing costs to each module, the equivalent of a construction ship. The time factor of space travel, is represented by the Decay equation of production being sent to the StarBase. Tweak either the decay equation (just for bases) or the Manufacturing cost of each module as you see fit to achieve the desired time/cost. You could then even start valuing different modules from each other, making the better improvements take longer

If you sponsor starbases from planets, those planets can't sponsor a shipyard. Thus reducing max production at your shipyards, thus slowing down the production or amount of military ships you can produce. In terms of production cost to your military, there is literally No difference between sponsoring via yards or planets. Say i have 5 planets and two yards, three planets sponsor one, two the other. The first yard builds ships, the second sponsors a ba

Except that you can always change the sponsor of your yards, so you can effectively swap which yards are the super producers and which ones are not. If you made it this limiting, the players will just build a extra yard at their major hubs (they are pretty cheap) in order to work around your solution. All the production actually comes from the planets. So whether you sponsor a base with a planet/s or a shipyard is irrelevant, its the same thing, except the yards gives you less flexibi

I like influence being powerful, I'm sure the AI will get some love to deal with it. However, I do think each planet that culture flips should cause a large diplomatic penalty with that race, and then also increase your perceived threat level significantly to ALL races. The influence-er should eventually be forced into wars over this, the Drengin would not stand idly by whilst their slaves overrun their worlds to join your empire. &nbs

Problem with that, is you'll end up having to re-do sponsorship much more often than if it were planets. With planets, you could assign 10 of your colonies to support 10 Starbases and leave them for maybe 30-50 turns as they slowly build it out. OR you can do 10 planets to one if you really want it to upgrade fast. With yards, you'd still end up editing the sponsors to do the same effect (slow or fast) except you'd have to build many more yards if you wanted
