Nearly every space opera TV show or movie has usually represented the larger military ships as fighter carriers, BSG, SAAB, etc. Playing around with the firepower and deployment of fighters is always okay. The idea that a fighter can carry a doom ray as powerful as a Dreadnought is a little silly. However, if we are going to continue to enjoy the carriers, (certainly the greatest combat innovation in GCIII), it has to be drilled into the AI that a carrier module should be stuc

The Mining starbases are great for trading with the AI they put a high value on the resources and you can get a lot of tech for a few units of durantium etc. I am waiting for the post that says the relics are overpowered. They are fantastic and can boost your economy and production by 400-500% if you build the sb and research the progenitor techs. Each sb will give you a 100% boost civ wide when fully utilized.

I love the carriers. They are awesome. Most of the time the capital ships never get a shot off. The fighters wipe out everything. W#hen the AI learns to build carriers a major part of the problem will go away. Maybe they can be toned down a bit but I like what they do and I want them to keep doing it, for me and for the AI. A carrier story... I built a 2 module carrier on a constructor frame and defeated four 3 ship fleets without taking a hit. Yeah, they are too strong

Okay, I agree that visual appeal is more important than reality in a game, I just think the white contrails in the dev-stream were over the top, and distracting. Paul thought so too, so it will be fixed I guess. I just wanted them shortened, and not swirling around for miles behind the ships. I have no problem at all with the explosions or the tracers on the missiles. Suspension of disbelief is important in enjoying almost all fiction. This is easier for some than for others. I like z
Altarians? Conquering Earth? Pfft. Not in my game! I'll destroy the planet and make it uninhabitable before they take it over! [e digicons]*_*[/e]
Now, now, think of all the deliriously happy liberals. :)

I know he mentioned they need work and I am all for suspension of disbelief for the sake of visual appeal, but rocket engines and missiles should be restricted to a short exhaust area and never long trails. The beam weapons and explosions have to provide 90% of the fire works if the battle scenes are going to be anywhere near believable. I know I will not get my way on this, but I hope the final product is nothing like what we saw today.

I am betting on the first week in April. Some think sooner but in the last dev stream they were playing with the next release and it seemed very unstable. Maybe a piece of cake for the devs but it looked spooky to me.

I got that Beacon trait and I could never find the planet they said I was to receive. I had nearly a hundred planets at the time so I might be overlooking it but it certainly was not in the Sol system. I agree with all your points. Hopefully they will take some of the suggestions posted here and the game will improve dramatically with future releases.

Regarding the ages thing on research, one of the results of this is the demise of the, (what was it?) 10 move, 20, move victory that was a fad with GCII. If this was even a consideration, I am sure it is not the only reason. I am sure SD is not that bothered by by the foibles of GC players. :)
i often choose one surveyor and only collect ship graveyards with it so that it can get all the sensor range bonus's then upgrade it to a ship that is all sensors and nothing else to eliminate the FOW
That's a cool move. I'll use that in the future. </

I checked my latest save game and it is as y'all are saying cumulative moves etc but only for the surveyor and ships in fleet with it at the time. BTW, I also noticed in my last game that the map stopped spawning anomalies at about t300. I thought it was supposed to keep cranking them out as long as the game lasts.

6 Replies 11,216 Views

Thanks, that makes sense. I seem to recall in GCII they would give the surveyor extra hit points, or military bonuses that would carry over if you ever upgraded your surveyor to a fighting ship. Is the bonus permanent for that ship. I was confused by the use of the term fleet. I am now wondering if the bonuses are permanent. If so, maybe you could fleet up the surveyor with some fighting ships and take advantage of
It should be moved a little closer to the beginning of the tree for early game use where it would be more valuable
Good idea, it should be a first pick for sure, or they could change it to three constructors per planet. That would be useful. I might be changing my tune after beta when the AI is coming at me like maniacs and I have to play on beginner to get a win. :)

I have been meaning to ask about this forever and it is so innocuous I never remember. When your surveyor finds those items that give your fleets additional moves and range, I assume it works for individual ships like constructors as well as fleets, but has anyone confirmed that it even works? Not me, and I find them so useless that it would not bother me if they disappeared from the game. It almost bugs me when I see them pop up. It is never like, wow, I really needed that boost.

6 Replies 11,216 Views

That ideology choice is certainly a bear. I have picked it twice. The first time I had about 20 planets and I spent a lot of time fleeting the ships and renaming the fleets as planet garrisons. The next turn I learned that the upkeep had killed my economy and it took me forever to fix it. There are so many ships built and found in the game, it never occurred to me to decommission. The next time I waited until my economy was ready for them. I had about 45 planets and had just about col
If I may ask a noob question as well since I'm new to the GalCiv series...what's the point of mining? I can't find anything currently in the game that state any bonuses are received. Durantium, Elerium (sp?), and antimatter all seem to have no purpose. The relics are fantastic, but the resources...? Am I missing the obvious? Thanks in advance.
I am not that impressed with the resource mining

I have been playing a gigantic map game for several days. All 5 AI on normal. I am playing as Terran. I have been playing for an influence win. After turn 200 I started getting way ahead of all the AI, mainly by using relics, and tech trading. I also was exploiting the AI by buying enough of their fleets to keep them at bay. I know it's cheesy but the game is not ready for serious play so why not have fun with the exploits. At the point where my power ratin

Yes, I agree with Buck. When you can build production to a point that you can build any ship in one turn, research any tech in one turn and earn thousands of credits each turn, what is the point of worrying that excess production is wasted. I may have to micro-manage all the damnable constructor required to get to that level but I have never micro-managed the sliders. I adjust the main slider 4-5 time in a game and seldom ever adjust a planet slider.
