I came back to mention that. The seem to be in with the normal ships. You might not even need to copy them to the usual mod folders - Mods seem to work as injection, and the game reads them where they would be in the game files themselves. Choosing the name of a starbase should in theory be picked up and be available as a ship.

I seriously doubt anyone at SD will come by to help, but I'm bumping in case someone can help. I know how to make new starbases for added modules, but I don't really know what ILO is or jumpgates are, and that could be why nobody's been sure what to say until now. No idea how adding starbase modules to factiondefs would work, doesn't sound useful at all, but you can set your own models for starbases and their increments of upgrade in shipstyles.xml

A few small translation weaknesses, but I'm saying that first because this is extremely promising. The factions are believable and unique, and the ships so far [23rd Dec 2015] look awesome! I'm going to follow the thread and download at a quite late version, keep it up.

I can't find the starbases in the game files, but it can be done. At least with a mod. That's how starbases are made for custom races - You make the ship and save as a template, which makes a 3D model you can use. I would assume the reverse can be done, where one would set a starbase model as a ship. If I get time I'll find the easiest way to do this, I've gotten enough practice with shipsets and mods :P

It is a good game, but I'm seeing a trend for comments, for example a quote from the TOP Steam review, "[this game has] This whole "Sell it now fix it later" mindset " and I really really don't want to see it that way myself... Those type of comments are on Rock Paper Shotgun, PC Gamer, these very forums, the Steam community, on the profiles of moderators. I myself love the game, I think it looks and plays great, but I dunno... After £42 w

I love (sarcasm) not saying what's actually in the mod, nor discussing what needs fixing with Avatar and the others, while still managing to be passive-aggressive. (Not trying to be too aggressive myself, seriously, but I don't think putting rings onto planets will provide modders an enlightenment.) Come on though; the Snathi DLC had new game mechanics, a new major race with animations and a tech tree, a new campaign, along with a few gameplay tweaks, an

Title basically says it all. I'm harder and harder regretting missing being a founder by literal days, because it sucks debating if I should pay every time Stardock slops another mod-- DLC out. So is Precursor Worlds worth it? It's looking to me like the price of a discounted game for some new planetary effects, and if not for the ship parts glued into their atmosphere I'd be fully convinced they just modded it like a community memb

Deleted the old files myself before. Either I deleted something big before and forgot, but I swear all the models added up to like a dozen GB or something silly. Anyway, still gone and ready for replacing whenever. I actually forgot you made a wiki for custom races. I had a long falling out with GC3 because I felt like the devs were getting grabby, and fan content fell under that effect so I didn't see your wiki since there was an unfinished summary of all your races. (Also why I

1) The shipset is awesome. By responding to a response to someone else I have a good opportunity to say. A few of the ships get a bit similar, but you've finished 13 shipsets and I've finished like 3, so clearly you know where the speed is at xD I'm a big fan of the militarised civilian look. 2) Cool. I don't think I ever ran into these guys as a minor, even though I always have minors set quite high. 3) I actually quite like it. It's closer to the
Who cares about story campaigns? Nobody plays them anyway. People just play sandbox.
One of my only bad thoughts about the game is that there should be more campaign. 'People' will vary in what game mode they enjoy most. Of course I realise people are getting SUPER angsty about that one comment but come on, they're custom levels packed with interactivity and lore, that just rules. </

On top of what's already been said, you can mod in some colour firstly with 'MapColor' XMLs. The trickiest part is knowing the name of the colours, which I don't very well, but if you can find an existing/template to use you'll be able to add a map style in like ~2 minutes, or more if you're toying with what you can do. It's more than just outline colour too; You get to choose borders, resource lines

For ones made in-game, you can't. For actual modded races, go into FactionDefs.xml and find/add the line that says 5000 You can change this to what you want, with obvious effects. Hope this answers your question.

There are some things it'd be cool to have an editor for, but honestly I don't want an editor for everything. For example shipsets. At the moment it's restricted to inspired people who know what they're doing, but if everyone can do it then nobody is special, and we end up with lower quality, more numerous mods. Stuff like "petite spacegurl ships v1"selectable from a drop-down menu. But making a tech tree is hard, so maybe that. Either way, we'll see if ther
Oh I just need to practice with it a little and maybe watch a couple of youtube tutorials - I have an unofficial aunt whose amazing with Photoshop so I may ask her advice. All the tools are labelled and placed where you'd expect, I had no prior experience with anything more than Microsoft Paint and now I can make wallpapers and do manually done depth of fiel

GIMP is more simple than the alternatives, not sure how to help you there. You could make a copy of an existing portrait and work on it if you need the right resolution and something to work on. Shipsets are actually fairly simple. You need a bit of patience to complete ships, but from there you can basically copy and paste ship names into an XML (warning: Not quite that easy, but close) and put it in the mod folder. What I would do is create a faction in-game, get the colours

It doesn't entirely seem right to win a DLC here... But I mean this is real life so small-scale heroics don't do anything, and I do want the Snathi, buuuuut if there's ever a chance to actually attract more people maybe I should buy the winner something. Anyway I'm super happy now, your feedback rules and I'm now I'll have a ship in GRM which is awesome. Almost all owners of the game who know about mods end up downloading it, so they'll see a tiny bit of my

Well I don't want to do a complete guide, because it would take so much time, plus I've seen Xitak go a little unusable just because of how much the game has changed already. However I could do a shipset tutorial! Might be able to fit in starbases, shipyards and so on WHILE STOCKS LAST Maybe a small AI tutorial, but I haven't mastered it. I could maybe show how to make them nicer/worse to you, but don't expect an impossibly

Yep! It seems exactly like that, because my Quarians use the Iconian music. I think Sorentoft's finished ME race pack had Iridium for Quarians too. I've been changing that for a while, and I'm not sure if position is important when adding that line. Of course the game is very good at being minimised, so I usually have the music off and put something on from my PC. I have to go to college very, very soon so I don't have time to check names and suc

Very welcome! Every time I've modded or made games or music nobody's been there to help, so it's really difficult for me to just ignore people who want to go on that sort of path themselves. I know this comment's sort of a waste of space, but it's worth mentioning that you can't mess up the game itself. The worst I've seen is an error message on startup that didn't impact the game caused by a faulty line in the Xitak tech tree. Orrrr maybe the fa

(Quick Edit: There is a race guide but it sucks, and the only good resource is this ) If someone starts an actual guide then I'll chip in. If there's a specifically aimed question I might be able. If someone does a video they've already done it so I'll cross my arms and pretend like I was a huge help invaluable to the process.

Ah I see. Well I can't find anything that enables it, which is a shame. It doesn't appear to be a set list of tracks for the map screen, more a combination of a very long exploration theme with a few race-specific tracks. I can only associate the Iconian music with event screens or something around that area though, so I think there might be some exceptions. If you can't understand what I'm saying, then honestly neither can I. Sometimes things show in game that I can&#

12 Replies 89,008 Views

Sure thing! ^-^ Now, I don't really know what you mean with the rest of that... You mean if it's possible to assign music to maps? Because if so, not that I know of. Plus I don't think you can ADD tracks unless there is a place holder marked with "." Buuuut, I've found something new. I don't understand how it's implemented, but there is a file called 'FactionMusicDefs.xml' which appears to simply be a list of music profiles, where

12 Replies 89,008 Views

Okay I've actually found something, it seems like there is a music def file that plays music when conditions are met. All the mp3's are in the game files, and not only do they seem unprotected but the def's XML has unused music slots and also has species conditions music in editable text form. Music can be put in the game. However I don't know a way to link these to custom races. Thing like 'peace_event' must be part of the game i
