The planet building has definitely improved a LOT. They're doing things with their planets that make them much more interesting to conquer!

If you're playing at default settings it's more of an issue with how you're playing the game, not balance. Without any specifics, like screenshots, can't really help you out other than to say that how you manage your raw production and planets is key to getting those numbers down to more manageable levels.
Re. Economy. Firstly, the most important stat is raw production. Population is your primary input for this, so building farms and cities, while not necessary early game, should be a consideration when building out your planets. The factors that constrain your ability to make big populations are morale and food. Early game, you will want some techs from the governance tree that give you access to some low level finance buildings. This can hel
THIS is how you report bugs and give feedback! Bookmarked to spend some time on these concerns!
Thank you! Part of the challenge of delivering good feedback is finding the best way to communicate it :) If it really helps you guys out at Stardock, I'll keep doing these posts.
Hey forum and Stardock! Firstly, V2.6 is really quite excellent and I've had a lot of fun playing with the game in its current iteration. GalCiv 3 has come a long way and has held up quite well when compared to the competition. This is one of my go to games, and I feel confident when I recommend it to other players. All the neat work that has gone into balancing, AI and performance really shines here. No other 4X lets me create my own stories quite like GalCiv 3. <
/sigh I don't know what it was, but I tried a different starbase and it worked, so I tried the first one again and this time it worked just fine. Maybe there was a space I didn't notice or a letter missing in that long string of letters at the end. It still doesn't show up in the list of starbases to sub in, but I can live with that. You're absolutely right. They're unrelated issues. Thanks for the suggestion!<br /
I've had the issue with not being able to assign starbases in the editor, but my starbases are otherwise working fine in-game via my xml. The invisible issue might be something else. Double check your xml edits, because sometimes a small mistake there is the issue.
PS. Oh, and I think the update and sale were not well timed. Newbies seeing established players vent is not going to help you sell the game! Edit* PPS. I think you could add a challenging set of late game events for competent to master players as a DLC. Another, simpler thing may be to have AI behavior where the they gang up on a snowballing player (perhaps as an optional condition, like surrenders)? Maybe that is an idea tied to the next expansion, so not sure.
I would say, keep an eye on and polish the base game, but save major changes for the expansion. To follow on that, the reviews suck, but this isn't the first time this has happened and can bounce back if you guys keep up the great dialogue with the community. I'm a regular GalCiv player, but also a regular Stellaris player. The devs over the lifetime of that game have copped plenty of flak for changes made, or a direction taken. The game director, Martin Anward, has had plenty of 'robust' exc
Agreed. I mean look at games like Baldurs gate and Pillars of eternity. Everyone thought these games were dead but they have shown that 'projections' or 'trends' dont many anything. Plus you have the added issue of if you make a turn based game you have to compete with all these other titles instead of carving your own path into a new popularity. I do wonder tho why a game like stellaris for example is streamed more then Gal Civ 3. Part
I'm personally not convinced that TBS is on the way out. recent success that incorporate the format like Civ, XCOM and to an extent Totalwar should tell us that TBS still has a place in gaming. I would consider, as a gamer, that Endless Space 2 is a successful game, and Endless Legend did quite well for itself as well. last I heard GalCiv 3 was still doing pretty good sales-wise, or am I incorrect?
With the espionage screen, can we have it so that when you look over another Civ's world to spy on their layout, when you click 'done' it sends you back to the main espionage screen so that I can quickly browse another planet in that civ's empire? Currently clicking 'done' drops you back to the main screen. I find this system gets in the way of the otherwise good espionage UI.
I would like some nice animated diplo screens for the Drath and Korx. Seemed like a missed opportunity to add in some shipsets for the two races, and not go the full yard for them.
Are you referring to something like the market system in Endless Space 2? Seems like a pretty big feature to put in. but it is a cool idea. Personally, I would beg further improvements to combat, super weapons and political systems ahead, but it would be a cool feature.
I like the battle system, however I don't think the mechanics of it are explained to the player. No one really knows how it works other than the designers, I assume. Therefore, it's hard for me to tell what is and isn't a bug/glitch with the system, or me the player, not understanding fully how it works.
This seems to be linked to another diplo issue where you cannot access the diplo/ttrade screen for a civ unless you restart the client. Unfortunately, as far as I can tell the issue comes back.
This is ridiculous. I've been playing since launch, and SD have put a crap-load of free support into the game over the past two years , Hell, they just released an update that ports some of Crusade's improvements into the base game. Crusade was released just recently, and you don't like how they're trying to court newbies in? I have no patience for this kind of nonsense.
Quoting , quoting post Hi all. I keep having this bug on crusade, in all iterations. It happened just now after the most recent patch. I was hoping this was fixed, but now I'm wondering how prevalent it is. I get a pop-up message at the beginning of a turn that some
Also with Crusade, its economic model is based on managing resources, especially citizens. I really love it, as it means you have to plan out things a lot more, rather than switching your economy on a dime.
I play both. ES2 has an interesting quest system, a galactic market place simulation and really good presentation, both with the visuals and audio. IMO, best looking 4x out at the moment. GalCiv 3 has much a more interesting system around planet building, generally good AI, a really powerful custom faction creator. It is still good visually and with audio. I think GalCiv 3 scales better to larger games as well. I'm not going to say which is better
Yep, been having this issue as well. You can reboot the game to sort it out, but it will come back. It's a nasty bug.
Or, alternatively clicking 'done' can drop you back the espionage UI rather than quiting you out of espionage and dumping you back to the galaxy screen.
We really need a 'back' button, because clicking 'done' and having to re-open the Espionage screen to look through the other civ's planets is reeeeeeeeaaaally tedious.
+1, I pestered Horem into testing it with me. This issue is definitely holding the AI back.
