If I understand correctly what you're asking, it doesn't work that way. A new tech is available to new ship designs , not to existing ships. You can produce a new ship design, or the designer may do it automatically (though it might not be what you want). Then you can Upgrade an existing ship to that design at the cost of $$ and time. No idea about the diplomacy thing.

Download Notepad++. It has a XML editor (or maybe it needs a plug-in). Much much better than dumb ol' Notepad.
One problem is that, in real life, "Pragmatic" is really Evil. Even the evil can act good--when it is beneficial to themselves.
You're making a distinction that isn't real, and in the real can be polarizing and destructive. ALL life is self-interested or it wouldn't be around long. The difference is in how that interest is served. The Good generally believes that what is good for others is

Fox broadcast them out of order, never broadcast the intro, and totally f*d up the schedule, putting half the episodes that they did broadcast on near midnight, after a baseball game.
Be able to change the ship roles after the ship is built.
Totally agree. To some extent the engine sets them on a per-battle basis so perhaps 'managed' roles is doable on a fleet basis, but there should be an option to change both the design default and the fleet-level role if desired.
It was OK, nothing special though. I do appreciate the touch of humor, and the sci-fi is okay, though so far hardly innovative. IMO, the biggest drawback is Mr. McFarlane. He's not terrible, but just doesn't have the chemistry to carry the premise. He's reciting all his lines with his eXO just fine, but I feel no heat. The rest of the cast I rather like. The little Security Chief was fun last night, behaving as callow as one would expect.&n
Now, I'm no fan of the GC II ship designer. But it has one feature that I'm sorely missing in the GC III designer. There's no way to set weapon and armor focus . It just keeps relentlessly building Shielded ship while the enemy just keeps using missiles and guns. Practically every ship I build must be custom designed, which pretty much obviates the need for an auto-designer in the first place. Yes?
Okay, new question. Say I have a bunch of ships that all use Duranthium. I zero out my supply, so I can't build any more. But then the enemy knocks out my major Duranthium sources, so that I no longer make enough to supply the ships and improvements that are already built. What happens? Do the ships etc. just keep working?
Guardian drones (Guardian, tiny, kinetic) do too little damage, so the Assault drones seem the more effective alternative.
I have to disagree with that. Guardian Drones have a shorter range weapon, but the same overall weapon rating (IIRC). But the kicker is that a Guardian Carrier Module is about 20% smaller than an Assault CM. This subject will take some study.
I second that demand! Maybe tool tips over the Threat, Fortitude, and Value boxes, too, just to explain what they mean. The wiki on this should be required reading too.
Inventive, Relentless.
Long but good review, from a guy who had never played a GC game. (Yes, such creatures exist, even above college age.) Thanks for the link.
As far as I can tell, there are four(?)types of drones: assault, guardian, interceptor, and escort(?). Know anything more? Snips from the wiki: Assault drones (Escort role, small hull, mixed weapons and mixed defenses) Interceptor drones (Interceptor, tiny, beam) will not protect their motherships Guardian drones (Guardian, tiny, kinetic) do too little damage, so the Assault drones seem the more effective alternative.
Hmm. That's interesting. Ship roles map to where they are in the battle space. Does this look right? Assault - up front shooting at bigger ships Interceptor - up front shooting at enemy ships up front Escort - mid-range shooting at intruders <span style="text-decoration: line-t
What do the different ship Roles really mean? Is this Assault Carrier 'Support' as it defaults, or Assault, or Capital, etc. Or does it matter?
Thanks, Brad.
I can confirm it in the base game, 2.3.3 and 2.5. The shipyard 'Buy' seems okay.
Okay, found it. v. 1.03 is under the Games tab. This site lets you d/l it. Steam doesn't. (I think Steam hates me.) Original question stands. Will the 2.5 release be accompanied by a manual update? If you (Stardock) think it doesn't need it, then that says more about the shortcomings of the manual than you might be willing to believe.
The Peter Principle I interviewed at Equifax about 12 years ago for a project management position. The distinct impression I got was that the management level above that was looking for someone to take the blame for projects with bad histories that would be assigned to him. I'm a technical guy; that level of internecine warfare I avoid like the plague (which is why I avoided the academy). But in that environment, incompetents rising high is no surpri
BTW, theoretically there's a further "problem". A synth race may start off behind meatbags in growth, but as production increases, its growth can increase at an increasing rate - the curve starts to look asymptotic. Of course, with population caps in place this isn't a problem, but do pop caps even make sense for such a horde? It will be interesting to see what happens in later years.
Yes, I'm Terran mostly Pragmatic. Saw that circle didn't select it cuz I didn't need it. I don't know what else to tell you.
I show Insane as an option on my 2.3.3 client, but it's disabled. Likely it senses that 4GB is planet class 4 nowadays...
Is a fair question. Other games have balanced it by having the synth population better able to support production. I'll be interested in what Stardock has to say on this, as I have a synth race under construction.
Nope. No mod. No decay.
Okay, where is the latest GCIII manual? F* Steam won't let me download it.
