Cassini was out of fuel, so no deep space thrusting possible. There was just enough to inject it into the terminal orbit set inside the rings, something believed so dangerous that it was saved for the very end of the mission. As it turned out, the space between the planet and the rings is remarkably clear, so all the orbits were completed. Either way, the intact craft or the pieces were destined to intersect the atmosphere, and we learned quite a bit this way while keeping t
Is there a way to tell your scout ships to go to one star and then another, and another, ie input a sequence of moves?
I believe there is an Auto-Scout, but no, you can't do multi-leg plotted movement.
Quoting DMF, reply 15 I still haven't figured out how to rotate a ship so I can place the components precisely. I suspect that there is no way. Is the reverse true? Can the file be imported my game?
A locked BATCH file??!? I've been working on these machines for longer than many of you have been alive and I've never seen that. pshaw, I'll run verify when I get a round toit [gratuitous ancient game reference] but so far 2.3.3 is working fine. Dennis
I do that for the main map plane tilt, but I'll try it on the designer. Thanks!
As for permanent improvements, in GCII there are two 'permanent' attributes, and I'll be surprised if GCIII doesn't have similar. One is to set the improvement indestructible, the other is to allow the player to destroy it manually. The reason to use the first is to keep the imp. from being a victim to destruction during an invasion. There seems to be a lot less of that in III than II... At any rate, it's more realistic to force the player to take the planet as he fi
Others are seeing it too. Stardock is looking into it.
Something's wrong. My revert was very quick - less than minute? And I'm not on a high-end machine. Interestingly, some of the 2.5 features (like the Tech selection screen) are still present in 2.3.3 after the revert.
BTW, the Designer in GCIII is easier to use in some ways, but not nearly as much fun as the one in GCII. I still haven't figured out how to rotate a ship so I can place the components precisely. I suspect that there is no way. :(
Blondie, don't worry about being way behind. Even experienced and capable players look from the graphs like they've spent the whole game losing. The current game I've just about gotten wrapped up as the Yor have suddenly surrendered, and I've finally gotten up to 2nd place in something (in this case tech - and not from a big research base). IMO, the most important thing you can spend your effort on is your relations with your fellow not-crazy races .

Start the game. Steam will apply the update automatically. It is possible to go back to the pre-release version (2.3.3) - look for a thread about GCIII 'Classic'.
Thanks. This tech tree is going to take some getting used to.
... alongside the tech name in the trading screen? It's not among the icons listed in the back of the manual.
Yes, I should have updated my post. Thanks for doing so, pshaw.
Other than the fact that finding anything on Steam is like hunting snipe, that back-out was pretty quick. Thanks.
We've had an opt-in up for awhile now
Up where?
You know, you would have saved a lot of grief if you'd made 2.5 "opt-in" with a notice that it invalidates saved and on-going games. Instead, you/Steam released it as "back-out", meaning I have to jump through hoops to get back to where I was this morning! NOT HAPPY. [e digicons]#:([/e] But thanks for the post. At least it is possible to get back.
Minor races ... will be getting a free update in the future to make them more distinct).
Brad, please take a look at what maiden666 has done in his Future Worlds GCII mod. He has given minors their own tech tree that lets them compete at least a little with the majors, e.g. giving them very powerful initial Improvements, e.g. giving them the techs to build Trade Goods (though they rarely beat the majors to the goods), e.g. making them quite difficult
2.5 (which we expect to release as an opt-in THIS WEEK) No option here. Steam just started the download and gave no apparent option to accept or reject. I'm not upset about it, but it may not be what you intended. Okay,
Some of my most memorable games were on OS/2 also. I recall one where the sides (I don't even recall the race) were nearly evenly matched and we just kept throwing hundreds of ships in to a killing zone with little change. I managed to make some progress on the right flank, but it wasn't until I was able to start putting out Excaliburs that the tide slowly started to turn. Still have the game somewhere, but nothing to run it on any more.
Thanks, Admiral. I replaced my video card and suddenly had an urge to play GCIII, partly as a stress test, and partly because I finished the biggest part of my work on maiden's Future Worlds mod for GCII. (It's really good.) Surprising how much of GCIII is non-intuitive, even for one as familiar as I with GCII. I still miss keypad movement.
Thanks for the reply. There is a Quick Save, though it doesn't always seem to work: I FINALLY found that brings up the menu that you describe, which acts a lot like the GCII save/load menu. Odd that this incredibly basic stuff is NOT mentioned in the pitiful "Manual". And I couldn't find it anywhere immediately accessible on the Wiki, though I'm sure it's in there somewhere.
Is there a way to do a manual save at all? I would prefer to do a Save As to a named point so I can start a second game without overwriting the first one. Also, a Quick Save option would be nice so I can save before my display driver crashes...
