Very helpful thank you!!! I had always played Terrans. I figured it was an early tech but it was late and I didn't want to futz around. Now I am am colonizing like a bandit and taking notes as I go. I like the Iridiums - having great fun with the Alpha 3! As far as space junk goes - how does it factor in? it says star base effect but I cannot see clearly what it does.

I may be overlooking something very elementary but I am playing as the Iridium and when I go to construct more colony ships they are not on the list. When I try to build one from scratch the colony modules aren't available as a part at all. So my initial reaction was I needed to research something - but I have (quickly) looked over the tech tree and cannot find a tech to research something that will grant me colony ships that also has a tooltip associated with it for the colony module. It sounds like a major game element that may take time to learn how to deal with. This may also be a good idea for any major part of any game like the GC series that has a lot of major parts.
I think it would be alot easier for lower skill levels (like myself lol). I suppose it could be automated if you didn't w

I was posting something in another thread about boarding parties and had a thought about espionage. What if there was some sort of Espionage Tree. This is a fleeting idea that may not be a very good one - but whenever I play GalCiv2 and other games like it I feel kinda disconnected from the espionage. You activate it and something happens every now and then - it's not very engaging. What if there was a Espionage Tree for each alien race that had branching paths you could s

Hell, the ability to have units in your fleet board other ships and then have those boarding parties take control of the enemy vessels turning the tide of an important battle is epic!!! I think it would be alot of fun. You could pre-program the boarding vessel to either self destruct, ram into stronger enemy ships or commandeer them as your own. It would be nice to have a tech tree option for 'Understanding Alien Crafts/Technology' before the commandeering can occur. Y

As I am playing GalCiv3, I have also been replaying GalCiv2. This has helped me get through to the next patch (I hope it's sooner than later - I can't wait). In playing GalCiv2 I am seeing things I like, some things I don't like (not much), things that I feel could have more depth and little things that would be cool if they had been added. I am using GalCiv2 to help me with my comments and suggestions for GalCiv3. One of these things is Race Logos. Could it be pos

I can't wait for the stream!!! I got a couple questions: Do you have any plans for moons? I see them orbiting the planets and wonder if one day they could be colonized or used for some other purpose. When can we expect to see the minor races? Will they be animated or still pictures like GalCiv2? Will they have their own ship designs? Keep up the great work!!!
being able to see planets, and especially what class and type they are, should not be available early without sacrificing something else. Exploration is important, having stars visible as a guideline so your not going in completely blind is good, but having some unknowns makes it more exciting when you find a good planet. If you want the advantage of seeing where all the good planets are, it should come at the cost of a few ot
Yes, I know. Currently we have Circles, and a fog of war. What would be nice is a change that has that but does not look like that. This engine makes the COOLEST Stars. Also the background is simply breathtaking. Why cant we have that at start up but not show planets. What I mean is, I want to see a 'revealed' back ground with Just the stars. Then as you expl

I agree that the fog of war should look better or different. Something about it looks flat and unfinished. I am not sure how it should change but the overlay seems too opaque to me. Maybe if they make the overlay more translucent/not as much a light gray but more a subtle dark gray it could work. Or if they made the edge between the fog and visible space a gradual transition and not such a sharp dramatic edge. I suppose they could make no overlay/translucency to the sp

I like the idea of flagships a lot. I think they should have a larger role in the game. Perhaps they can improve your stats and chances in combat if it in in one of your fleets. Also, maybe they could hold some diplomatic purpose later in the game: Basically I think Enterprise NCC-1701-D and everything it did for it's Federation... Mediating Wars and/or tensions: Send your Flagship unit to enemy space to negotiate peace. First Contact:</str

Recently I have been playing the Ur-Quan Masters. It has brought back tons of awesome memories of playing Star Control 2 when I was younger. I loved that game and the aliens contained within it. With the recent acquisition of the Star Control rights have you guys at Stardock ever considered (down the line) offering the Star Control races (perhaps as DLC packs) for GalCiv3? If they were rendered in the GalCiv style to match the game aesthetics (but based on their SC2 looks not their SC
While reading some forums I got this idea from a few different posts and wasn't sure which one to post it in so I decided to create my own. On the topic of dead planets: There is a ton of them around and it is aesthetically pleasing cause it adds a certain amount of reality to it considering the Goldilocks zone etc. This seems to me to be about the extent of their usefulness. With this in mind I think that Dead planets could become someth

Making a globe like feature would for me seem like a huge undertaking for the number of planets that would be in one map and it might draw to much work away from the actual game play which in my opinion is more important. At least draw attention away from more features or ways to play etc. Is it not possible to have a 2D map with 3D obstacles (maybe a tilted v

Even now there are certain areas no one allowed to fly through, and those zones are closed even for country's own citizens. You can offer certain corridor to other races, should they request one (or offer it as a "good will gesture"), and make it either free, or take some toll, like I said above, especially if you will allow use of your services, like starbases, and their modul

In addition, there is no way to make a globe out of even IRREGULAR polygons of the same shape in a sufficiently large size. You're always going to be stuck with the Soccerball problem - inserting a couple of different-shaped polygons amidst the others. It&#

The old Star Control races had the perfect mixture of humanoid and non-humanoid races. I loved all of them! I would like to see GalCiv3 get some variety and weirdness like those classics. Some were truly alien. Great ship designs too. The Mycons were creepy.
