1) Are there plans to bring the little white arrows back between tiles/improvements on the planet screen? 2) When can we expect to see minor races? How many will there be? Will they have unique ship designs? Animated or static images for them? 3) Will colonization events have specific artwork corresponding to them or will it just remain the view of the planet. If it remains the view of the planet can we at least see a representation of the specifi
I worked with a naval sim called Harpoon. In it the messages were delivered by your officers. Similar to the suggested GNN and pop-ups Drengins now have etc.. having someone of your race presenting it, you know how often those come. On planet screens an official for that planet, taking your orders would indeed be cool. If images would suffice instead animations, I bet we have better luck being considered.
I like the robots - always have and do not want them to go away... However, I do agree that when playing a race you do never see your own kind. I have always felt that this was strange and needed to be fixed. How about an alien advisor on a little screen or something - someone who can give tips (if you want them) perhaps it can also give news of events like the old GNN did. Perhaps even Governors and/or leaders of individual or groups of your planets - maybe we can see them so

Agree with most of your points... Point 1: Though I do like the planet screen alot, upon going back and looking there does seem like there is wasted space above and below the planet 'window'. It seems to me that this space could be used for more information and/or functions. I do love the planet on the left however and I hope at some point it will show ships in orbit in addition to the occasional orbiting moons we already see. As for the civ information (income/growth/approval
Gotta ask about the races though, are they just going to be renamed repeats of the same races? Am i going to start on earth and somehow discover hundreds of human civilizations starting up? My solution would be a sort of randomizer for creating races, including their portrait (different head shape, eyes, skin colour etc). Diplomacy could be conducted with just a static picture instead of creating the anima
True - but the dominant ideology could be displayed.
I know the game is still in early development and I realize an idea such as one I am suggesting would be far off if it would ever even happen at all. Also keep in mind this is merely just an idea that I feel compelled to mention – I understand it is not critical or essential to the final game but it has been in the back of my mind for some time now and I feel the need to share. So here goes… With Ideology playing such an important part of Galactic Civilizations II
For those who opted in - do we need to go in to GalCiv3 properties in Steam and switch it back to normal?
If you go back and look at some old post of mine (I dont have time to find them right now - otherwise I would link to them), I had posted something similar when I played GalCiv3 for the first time. I felt I was playing Galactic Civilizations 2. Everything 'felt' and 'looked' the same as 2. It wasn't until i went back and played GalCiv2 that I truly understood how different the two games are. GalCiv3 looks WAAAAAAaaaaaaayyyyyy better than GalCiv2. So staggering were
Honestly, I hope they implement more odd, alien and strange looking planets. I think it adds some charm and exploration surprises to the game. Raise your hands for more strange worlds! :)
The land is blue . That doesn't make it water any more than the sky is water [e digicons]:P[/e]
I said the land is water. Not the water is land. As in, the continents are water. The hexes are on the continents which look to me as water. The whole thing seems inverted to me.
It has to be a bug - the land is water.
I am playing the Beta and I am loving it - I plan on doing an extensive feedback post when I find time but until then I feel compelled to bring up the little arrows for the planet improvement tiles. Please bring them back, they were so useful and Intuitive. I miss them terribly. I DO like the new numbers on the tiles in the beta and think they should remain in the game but the absence of the arrows is making me crazy when I go to build Improvements. I think if the arrows were back in,
I will have final editorial say on star names. So "SmellyFart453" isn't likely to make the cut. SmellyFart453 becomes ----> Malodorous Miasma 453 Fetid Zephyr 453 Mephitic Effluvium 453 [e digicons][/e]
Can we talk about any of the minor races yet? Which ones are making it into the game, will they have unique ships and will they be represented in full 3D like the major races?
I like the hexes in civ boundaries alot. I play that way all the time occasionally turning off the grid entirely to see 'space'. I would like a translucency slider for them though so you could set the grid to varying translucency percentages according to your own taste.
I am LOVING the alpha! Plus it's really nice to participate on these boards and feel like you are making an impact on the final release. Stardock was smart to make the Founders Elite $100 - this ensures that the people participating are committed and serious about playing/testing/giving feedback. gbaren - did you like GalCiv2? Or is this your first GalCiv experience?
I know we have all talked about Stargates and Hypergates? But what if there is some kind of Jumpstation? Rather than taking a ship from point A to point B what if a Jumpgate or Jumpstation wildly accelerated a ship passing through its field of effect? Basically if the path of a ship went through the field it would reduce the amount of spaces dramatically to reach a distant point. Almost like those flashing arrows in a race-car video game. The amount of accelerat
I was playing an Altarian game and my first wars were fought with the Dregin... I proceeded to take over each of their worlds and then claimed Dregin and Kona as my own... Once I accomplished this (I have to admit it was easy pickings), the Drengin shipyard and its remaining units all flipped to my (the Altarian) skins. However... Even though they have the Altarian skin they have the Iridium logo instead (who are WAAAAAaaaaayyyyy on the other side of the map)... The shipyard and ships
This idea is awesome! I never liked ships just upgrading themselves in deep space. Requiring ships to dock in a shipyard for upgrade is brilliant and gives the player reason to build multiple ones across the map.
Why can't Shipyards be protected by varying levels of Orbital Defense Platforms? Weak platforms could be researched and built easily early on and further tech could lead to stronger more powerful ones. Perhaps certain races could start with one as a starting unit. What about space mines? These could at least provide some sort of barrier to approaching ships. I do like the idea of having the defenses/hitpoints of the shipyard be stronger the closer it is to its main sponsor
You have lots of great ideas here and this caught my eye... All of the sudden a window pops up: CONFIRM BATTLE? Can only choose one option. BAMM! I have no idea where or what happened. Later I discover it was one of my two survey ships… Saw no evidence of the battle as I was on another portion of the map. Took me a few turns to realize it was gone. This happens a couple more times – again I hav

I saw it done in the live stream and was hoping it would be in Alpha 3 but sadly I cannot do it. It’s not a deal breaker but I would feel more ‘free’ and less claustrophobic if I could get under ships and planets. I understand that there are words and numbers on the board – but I don’t care if I cannot read them or if they are inverted on the unders
Hello all – I have played with the Alpha previously (mostly tinkering and playing around) but with the release of Alpha 3 I have put aside time and decided to play a real game. In doing so I have decided to take notes and pass feedback, ideas and any frustrating or buggy things I encounter along the way. This first post represents turns 1 – 252. I figured I would pause and post notes and then play another big chunk. First thing I want to note is t
