EvilMaxWar
Its not a 4x, nor would I call it a Space RPG. Why don't you just try it? Its a 10 min download.
Sony is a pretty evil company. There is a story that back in early 2000 they secretly booby trapped their Playstation 2 consoles with a mechanism that would eventually burn the laser when a Mod Chip was installed. They were trying to hurt the mod chip business by making the consumers victim of the failures blame it on the modchip makers and installers, all the while it was Sony with their sabotage mechanism. This was eventually discovered and possibly there was a lawsuit i
Not to mention the voice acting is awesome.
@Fate, I recommend you update the first post with everyone's timezone.
The franchise is mostly known because of Star Control 2. For good reason as it is an excellent and very unique game. I would classify it as a space opera adventure game but then it is so unique that it is hard to compared it to anything. The good news is that the authors of the game have released to source to the public, as a result the game has been ported to modern computers and is avaiable for free. I recommend you download Ur Quand Masters HD and experience this great
@Redindus I can see you are a Distant Worlds player I briefly tried Distant worlds and I wonder if the scope is not TOO big for my tastes. I mean, I dont even play the largest galaxies in GalCiv 2. Distant world seems very interesting though but I think I would need to try it some more to get used to how ridiculously huge and complicated it is. A bit complicated with the game being so expensive. I will consider buying the upcoming Universe Package that is announced apparen
I saw it on steam a little while ago but reviews seemed quite mixed. Most reviews ( both user and metacritic ) seemed to point that the game could be great but does not feel quite finished. So I decided to wait a while so the devs can patch it some more maybe. But I will probably buy it eventually. If only because it has tactical turn based ship combats and just like every other guy I remember Moo2 fondly.

Thanks for taking the initiative to do this. I think that was needed. I think a more descriptive thread name might have been a plus though. UTC-5 prime availability: between 20:00h and 1:00am most days. *May extend a little due to the ''One last turn syndrome''

I think every one should port their timezones. But maybe another thread should be started for this.

From what Ive read It seems my favourite way so far is the description of Distant worlds system. You have configurable win conditions. Personally I know that once I own 50-60% of the planets in the galaxy in GalCiv II, I have pretty much won. So why not set a victory condition to ( Own 60% of habitable planets ) and be done with it. That might need some tweaking to work with a system such as Metaverse where people could set really cheap win conditions and fake
It is pretty shrewd, valve offers something useful for free to devs. But then it makes using their online store application mandatory to play the games. Then all those players see those juicy specials on games and eventually start buying. Once they have several games on Steam, they want to buy their new games on steam as they then all have it on the same place and it feels much more convenient. Not to mention that most PC gamers like steam. As a result, more and more gamer

My favorite 'strategic reserve' approach.
That was a bit silly of me to say that as there is no queue for starport in GalCiv 2 however that trick is great in other games. With some craftiness you can sort of
EvilMaxWar There is too much speculation in your post and nothing to back it up. Valve states that Steamworks is free.
I really find it hard to believe that Valve would agree to providing all of its services without getting a cut of each purchase, no matter how you purchase it. Dunno, seems it was pretty much instant for me. How long since you made the purchase? Maybe someone at Stardock needs to manually activate your Elite founder account.
