Also, I have found that it is a waste of resources to bribe factions into fighting with each other because as soon as they can, they will usually sign a peace treaty.
Yea, that always bugs me. You fork out a load of cash and bribe a Faction into war, sit back and wait for them to destroy themselves- Two turns later they`ve made peace! Other game`s Ai tend to do this too. S

I managed peace with another Faction by simply giving it almost everything I had. :(
Personally, I`d prefer to hear from the man who knows, the Dev, himself, not those who seem to think they must talk for him like in some cult. Thankyou.
1. I also prefer multiple diplomacy methods - from declare war, to threaten, to bribe, to demand, to gifts. Civ4 pretty much had it right. 2. In Civ4, my average game (marathon mode) lasted for about 2000 turns, give or take a few hundred. I find that games > 3000 turns just seem to be too long, while < 1500 seems to be too rushed. I like to get involved in a game over a period of wee
I noticed this in my games. I`d be thinking, `Why he`s hanging ships around my bases while he`s fighting a losing battle with someone else?` I just accepted it because he was allied with me and I thought he was adding support protection to my planets as well. But it would be real nice to see them out of my systems.
Not sure why people are still getting their panties in a twist when it is now an OPTION. I can`t be arsed to continue arguing the logic with some of you since the problem is cured anyway. It`s just a waste of energy now.
How about only ships with higher tactical speed and more moves can retreat? Meaning slower ships in a fleet are stuck. Also, neither side can retreat for a certain amount of time after the battle starts. This would actually make stacking more engines better, and actually give a use to having more tactical speed without heavily stacking them.
That could work. I welcome positive ideas like this.
I like what you're suggesting. Except I sometimes have a habit of re-starting games where I've picked Random options because I didn't like what Random gave me (ie I really deep down wanted my Setup a certain way and was expecting by picking Random the game would just by chance give me what I wanted)...
Every GalCiv has had some bit of this. Here's a look back: GalCiv OS/2: AI saw all, all the time GalCiv I: AI saw all, all the time GalCiv II: AI knew where all the planets were but did not know if they were "good". If AI ever "saw" a unit, it could see it forever (i.e. flagged).</
You don`t suck at making war- Anyone can make a war. You mean you suck at winning one! [e digicons]:|[/e]
It's not like the devs could've included retreating but forgot. They consciously decided not to put it in. Of course, they also consciously decided on several other things that turned out to be bad ideas, and have shown evidence of being willing to go back and change things... but they need to be convinced that it would work. You aren't going to achieve that by telling them that you have no idea how to make this balan
Sad thing is, Devs are getting lazier with their AI. Not so much because they can`t do it, but because the time isn`t worth the reward (cash) for them. It`s a new excuse I`ve seen start popping up and it`s not one I1m happy to see. We`re lucky they continued working on the AI to 1.41, but I`m always wondering when they`re going to quit rather than finish the job. I think the only way we`re going to see a true effort made on the AI in ALL games is when someone makes an A
Larse you fail to realize another point: no one care about beating AI. when people vote for wheel - the very very last thing in their mind - is that it can be used to beat AI. who cares???? personally i do not play single at all and after recent patch can not even stomach multiplayer. main point is that developers taken away the ability to freely control their planet! and after
I don't like the idea of retreating. It reminds me too much of Civ V where you have to battle an enemy unit several times before one wins. A retreat mechanic will have the same effect for GC III.
So? That`s warfare- that`s how war works. War is repetitive. Shoot-kill-shoot-kill- repeat. A possible retreat adds an extra tactical option. Also, there are many ways a retreat can be stopped. Have faster
I didn't "demand" anything. I made a list of ways I think the game could be improved. In this case the designers are inifinitely more familiar with both the gameplay and the mechanics at work behind the scenes than I am. How does me being unable to devise a water-tight solution invalidate the idea?
It`s the knee-jerk reaction you`ll get from some who will do everything they can to prevent y
I really hate how ships never retreat. When I have a huge armada bear down on a tiny alien fleet and the little faster fleet decides to duke it out with me, it just takes me out of the game. They should flee. I know some will say they don`t like chasing down runners ( a childish response to a tactical, strategy wargame), but it`s realistic as it shows that the enemy either does not want to die or use it`s ships fruitlessly in a no-win battle. I would also like to use retreat mys
I agree on all of this. I thought point 1 was very good but also heavily agree on retreating. I hate how ships can`t retreat in battle. Some have said this would be boring, having to chase down retreating ships. Well I don`t agree. Retreating of ships can be limited, possibly, so they can`t retreat forever. Endless Space has ship retreats and that works just fine. It also makes the Alien look like it actually prizes its life or does not want to to uselessly lose its ships in a no-win battle.&
What if diplomacy was improved by simply doing diplomatic things? (trade, gifts, etc). Kind of like an experience system. This way, xenophobic knuckleheads lag behind, while gregarious hobnobbers gain more "experience" which they can leverage later in the game.
It still wouldn`t work with a new alien Civ that you`ve never met. Like some have said, it`s not just about literature
Am I the only one who don't understands why the hyper advanced civilizations of the universe, who already have a universal translator or master interestelar travel, don't know how to use a pen and sign a Alliance Treaty or a Non-Agression Treaty since the beginning of the game? I really think this must change, since it makes the non-campaign game quite limited until the middle of the gameplay.
When it comes to
Yes, but why only one opponent?
Well perhaps this one Civ has done better than the others and become a runaway. I don`t know, but it has to be something like that.
Doesn`t Genius give the AI a large cash boost? I think it does. Below that it has no advantages.
Hmm. We would have to know how the AI was working. Maybe it defeated another large Civ and took its planets, or a Civ gave itself(including its planets and stuff) to it? This would boost its cash intake. Also what difficulty are you on?
