@hardcore gamer I think humans are the way they are because of our particular evolutionary history. I highly doubt an intelligent species evolved from say... nomadic herd animals, will have the same natural conception of territory and what is "yours" versus "mine" that we do. You even get these different views within the same species depending on their mode of existence, the dichotomy and misunderstandings of the Spanish meeting the Native Americans the first time they

It CAN make sense because different species will have different inherrant points of view. Some will not see this as a provacative act, some would. Hence my recommendation that their be a personality trait (I'd call it Territorial), as this will allow for creative application. Terrans (us) are clearly territorial, and should thus NOT be mad at you for destroying some random colony they or anyone else made in your backyard. The Iridium on the other hand, maybe have a differe

@Deathwynd This is meant as a full system to replace the entire ideology system, but work within the same frame work. We have 3 ideologies and each has 4 chains with 5 levels. (20 traits total). Each of my chains will correspond with the them given. Here are my first draft notes for the pragmatic replacement for example (which, granted, isn't likely to change things too much in terms of themes). Keep in mind these are raw, raw, ideas. <

[quote who="erischild" reply="11" id="3574350"] I don't understand how real borders work in space. The only real borders you have are the boundaries of gravity wells. Everything else is arguing about which drop of water you own in the ocean. Only the islands really count. The rest is what you can object to effectively, an abstract notion at best. Actually, most land based borders are that way as we

Honestly I kinda feel like we should have REAL borders, and then also INFLUENCE area. Real borders would be quite tight, say, the standard Starbase area of effect, but around every planet. Whilst influence is just that. Could just a have a more transparent version of the border for one or the other to represent on screen.

I think this type of moment right here, is precisely why humans will end up at war with some aliens one day lol. Perhaps "territorial" would be a good personality trait, some races like our's naturally determine territorial ideas by proximity, others, being alien, don't necessarily see the proximity as a big deal. Maybe try bigger galaxies but less stars or planets, helps you and the AI have, some distance.

In other news, and expand on what I was talking about earlier, I think I'll work on a add-on mod that redoes the ideologies to suit my tastes and my custom races here... These will all have both benefits and PENALTIES as you select traits, I've listed the very basic advantage/disadvantage relationships, but it will be pretty nuanced in the end. Also, its worth noting that all three will have starbase advantages as well. Under each branch is four categories/theme

Hrmmm Have you guys tried just hovering over the area and using your mouse wheel? That may well work without it. I won't be able to test until much later today. Worst case scenario, just as Deathwynd notes, go into the mod folder and remove the files that have "Blank" at the end of their name (or otherway around if you prefer). You may have to edit the custom races to acc

I'm still in the process of thinking through the various stories for each race... one thing that I believe, is that the Benevolent/Pragmatic/Malevolent isn't grey enough for my tastes. I'd prefer something like: Balance: Those who seek harmony and balance are conservative, but know how to get the most out of a situation. Terraforming benefits, morale benefits, but science drawbacks (as new tech brings new conflict), diplomatic bonuses, as well as som

Hey there thanks! First question... did you uninstall the previous edition of the mod? Second question... did you add the ships under "game directory/designs/startup" to the apropriate folder in your GC3 installation? Third question... did you replace all the custom factions with the new versions? The new version should instantly allow you to see the ships in preview if applied correctly. Also thank you for letting me know that thi

Hi there! 1.2 Released. Adds the Lythian Expanse shipset and custom race. Fixes the preview ships issue. Changes the installation, so that the vast majority of files are NOT in the game directory. The only remaining game directory files are for the ship preview issue. It is EXTREMELY recommended that you uninstall the previous version of the mod first. This will ensure you do not end

I think this idea deserves serious consideration, it helps enmesh both ideology and influence into the larger game better. Right now both of them are weak and feel "tacked on" making them intertwined in some fashion helps enhances them both. Also, I agree, realism isn't a great argument either way, but this idea can help fix several feature issues. 1. Could be done in a way to help small empires 2. Helps with the slow

Love this. It was a nice feature in elemental fallen enchantress that city names appeared on the zoomed out map. Love to have something similar.

Ok... Well, for the most part, most of my ships take 3 hours, and variants with different turrets only a half hour each tops. Once you have a core set, it goes fast. Now, as for comparing yourself to Gizmo... Yeah, even I don't want to look too closely at those ships, they are incredible and make me jealous lol. I console myself (in my puddle of envious tears) by telling myself "I can't work that long on each ship, I have a schedule to keep! I have HUNDR

Hey there! The "blank" xmls, support the "blank" ship sets. These ship sets set all the standard designs as "AI ONLY" so that you never see a default design when playing, and yet, the AI will still utilize them. I tend to make all of my designs whilst playing, from scratch, because the defaults are pretty sub-optimal. So its merely for convenience for those who don't want the defaults in their way and are tired of obsoleting stuff. And

I think he is referring to the template designs... which of course, without, this mod's custom race ship sets will all break. @ForesterSOF what are the specs of your PC? I'll have to add on a performance warning. I've never had an issue... but I have a pretty nice PC @Franco FX, thanks! Good to know! I definitely think you can get a ship set in the style you are looking for, using a lot of the Altarian pieces especially. I'd take a

Hey guys! If anyone has some feedback on the races, the ships/etc. now is the time... I'm working on another update. Does anyone think a race is lame/cool/broken/not good enough, etc. Typos... Anything. The update should include: 1) New installation instructions. 2) The preview ship fix (thank you) 3) One new race/ship set.
