Just a reminder how 'collapsing' tech-tree could get worth thinking about: In StarDrive2 specialization is a pick out of three options form a branch. The other two options disappear, but you could certainly trade-in the collapsed tech from other empires as well. Other option is to earn it by invasion of enemys colonies. It'll enhance diplomatics or overall strategy and forces you to think about a proper research path.

Ah, ok, thx the notice. BTW, regarding custom races...do they break the mod, or do they just have head-start by getting the usual starting ships? Would be quite cool to determin it like this by choice in later versions. Update: Yes, custom races are playable and you get the head-start with colonizer and survey ship. Very nice!

Great ideas so far. Limiting colony module to a certain tech, same as the ships range brings game much more into 'eXplore and eXpand' then before. Looking forward to get Workshop integration for mods, as I do not like to have total conversation of the game by installing a single mod.

Is it offered as a mod? If not, i'd not recommand to just include it in the usual buildup. So far I understand it, the limitation of pictures offers the possibility to use your custom designed races for multiplayer. ...as for the picture... Have you tried to Insert/Edit image the raw picture instead of your mediafire html link? Nice images btw...

Well, if we reconsider GC3 is a 64bit portation of GC2, you may not need designing from scratch. This cuts out 1/3 up to 1/2 of development time I guess. They sold how many founders edition for ~90 bucks? I am pretty sure they had basic revenue before they coded a simple line. Otherwise they would not accept 50% off pricing on Steam the other week. So I do assume your calculation should be cutted down to 1/3 to get near to realism. Not prooving your pre-calculation, I'd say

Thank's for asking Frogboy... #1 The diplomacy in Civ 5 is quite ok, but I'm using some mods which enhanced it quite much with adding more steps then the usual war/neutral/peace you found in most games. Currently there is no goal about having racial diversity as mentioned here . All we have are some extreme planets you may gain accessable in the future when your superpower allready reached a certain level of research. I totally share your oppinions about GC3 at the current state. '+' for it! Have the game now for a couple of months and testing it. Did some testing with the new patch (v 0.70) and the immense maps. Unfortunately the game engine turned into a CTD-monster...no matter which size of map I use. Also the 'extreme planets' I deeply waited for...are no good. The idea to have planetary invasion quite early is a good point from my view. Probably a basic choice between predators and eXpanders at early stages might bring a solution? Like predators get invasion quick (2.5M invasion modules) and therefore only core colonization modules with which you only could colonize small ammounts (max. 1M) till you reach a better tech stage. In GalCiv3 there is no way for a multi-civ-system. Ok, you can divide planets, but instantly the most populated civ will take over the others. Before we could think about different enviromental planets, this part should get fixed. I'd suggest to denie takeovers till the diplomatic situation is worse then 'neutral'.
