Hey Starkers I was reading the last few pages. You do know Microsoft said Windows 10 is the last version they will put out right? So no 11 or 12 or more. They will just release a anniversary update every year.

I have no issues with Windows 10. Running it on a new HP computer that's a few months old. I disabled or uninstalled all the apps that came with the system, I do not use them. Seems to run OK. No issues with updates.

Thought I would ask you experts here as Google really isn't all that helpful or I don't know how to search properly. Got a newer Dell laptop. Windows 10. Problem is when I hit the power button, this thing refuses to come on 9 times out of 10. Ran across a web page that suggested I take out the battery, unplug the power adapter, and press the power button for 30 seconds, thereby clearing the system of power. It's supposed to help get rid of the small static buildup inside the compu

Using Windows 10. On a Dell Insprion 15 laptop. It's new. When I'm on battery, ever so often the screen just turns off. Was curious if anyone would now why. :/

Well it's not exactly so slow that I can't get any work done, it's just slower than my old quad care pentium setup. And this dual core CPU is newer. 4 is better than 2. Go figure.

I have thought about a SSD, but sadly it's a low end laptop, so there's no ports to access on the bottom to change out the hard drive or RAM. Even the battery is non removeable. :(

Hey everyone. One last question. It seems to me that Windows 8 booted quicker, and woke up from sleeping faster than 10. It's only a 2.2 GHz dual core Celeron machine, with 4GB DDR3 for RAM, so I am curious if Windows 10 is too much for the system to handle. :/

Thanks guys. I found the Windows 10 ISO file at Microsoft. Downloaded it, installed it, and it activated just fine. Was gonna use Windows 8 for a bit, but it proved to be highly annoying. Had to turn off a bunch of privacy settings in 10, but otherwise I'm set.
I also don't see a use for anything made by Apple, their business practices make me puke.
And yet you use Microsoft products who are just as bad, if not worse. Sorry, I return you all now to your regularly scheduled broadcast. :)

So I got a good deal on a notebook at a local pawn shop. Using it now. The shop had upgraded it to Windows 10. When I got it home I did a complete factory reset and that reinstalled Windows 8.1. Now since the free upgrade to 10 is over with, does anyone know if I can go back to 10 for free somehow?

Too many choices on Google, so I thought to ask my friends here. I'm looking for a program that will take an exact image of my hard drive that can be restored after replacing the hard drive or a system crash that can't be recovered. Basically a program that will allow be to boot up via USB stick, then copy the image to the hard drive, then, like magic, everything works like it did when it was backed up. Easy to use is a plus. Thanks guys.

I tried the anniversary update. Tried it for a week straight after a clean install of Windows 10. My computer slows to a crawl with the update. So how do I AVOID having Windows update to the anniversary update? I would love to turn off automatic updates all together, but I haven't found out how without using a 3rd party solution. Thanks.

So I picked up a IBM ThinkPad T60 for cheap. Old owner tried to put Windows 10 on it, but the poor machine ran very, very slow. It was made for XP. So I need to ask what operating system you guys would use. I have a legit COA on the computer for XP but no one uses that anymore. I don't have a copy of 7. I do have Fedora Linux and Mint Linux. So what OS would you install? It's not my main machine, I have a MacBook for that. It has a Intel Centrino CPU, 2 Ghz, 32 bit, 3 GB of memory, an

Thanks for the help guys. The image idea would work if I had an external hard drive or large capacity USB stick. I have neither, with no means to get either any time soon. I will have to look into LightStar's idea. You all sure the prduct key Speccy drags up will work for install?

So I bought a new computer back in early February. It came with Windows 8.1. Recently got the Windows 10 update. So far I'm liking Windows 10. I didn't care much for the Start menu so I bught Start 10. My question is what happens if my hard drive dies? I don't have Windows 10 on a DVD, nor do I have any product code if I was to download an ISO. So what options do I have?
