This is a clean install Starkers. Right from the Windows 7 DVD. And all the current drivers installed. The machine is 5 years old. That might be it.

I just rebooted and checked. Yep, it's in AHCI mode. Still took close to 2 minutes to boot.

My old 500GB Western Digital has been showing signs of dying so I went out and got a 256GB Mushkin Source SSD. What a joke. I see no improved boot up speeds on Windows 7, nor any other improvements over my old drive. Boot times and app start up times are the same. I have made sure TRIM is enabled and the SSD checks out OK. Muskin offer no software to help with speed on the SSD. Thoughts? I'm confused...

Well $400 laptops don't have expansion ports. I'm stuck with Intel onboard graphics.

I uninstalled the HP video driver and installed the Intel driver. Nothing's changed. I still don't have access to the Intel video card control panel. So the old desktop finally bit the dust. I bought a new notebook because I'm more mobile then ever. It came with a Intel Pentium N5000 CPU and Intel 605 HD graphics card. The big issue I am having is all my old games will not run full screen. I have tried every combination for compatibility with no luck. The system uses a driver from HP for the Intel video card, I have no access to a Intel video card control panel. Anyone have any ideas how to get these games running? The games I play are Hoy

So my hard drive is on it's last leg. It's so bad it will not run Windows 8 because it has so many bad sectors. I got Ubuntu to run on it - barely. Enough to browse the web. I will be able to replace it on Friday. Question is about my screen. Almost everyday when I bring the system out of sleep mode to watch a bit of YouTube I see 8 to 15 lnes appear the screen near the top. Now the screen works fine after the OS loads up and runs. I was curious if I should buy the SSD I wanted to buy for it

OK guys, if your willing to put up with the bad music and length here is a video of my model being upgraded. I'm OK getting the screws and keyboard out, but those little ribbon cables might be too tricky. The local shop wants $50 to do it but the thought of someone else upgrading the system scares me a bit. Kinda hard to upgrade a CPU that's soldered into the board. I have sent a message to the local shop asking what labor cost there would be for installing the SSD and it looks like I can grab a 256GB Mushkin on Newegg for $60 or so I'll look into that option. I kinda like this Dell.

Sadly I can't have a desktop. I'm at a point in my life where I'm renting rooms from people and I am never able to put down roots due to a few factors so I'm always needing to relocate every year or so. This makes having a laptop the better option. So why not the Mac? The one I am looking at hasn't been used too much and is in near mint condition. @Big Dog - Don't need a touchscreen. :/

Starkers, good point, however I do not feel comfortable doing that upgrade. Nor do I know how to load Windows on to a SSD. Unless it's exactly like loading it on to a hard drive. You see I'm fine taking the screws out of the back and removing the DVD-RW drive. I get kinda nervous when it come to popping up the keyboard and undoing three ribbon cables. I'm afraid I will never get them back in, or break them, or once they are in I cracked one and something will not work from that point on. Thos

Guys the games I am playing all are older ones. The newest game I have, Monopoly, is 6 years old. The rest are much older. They play fine, they just take up to a minute to load, and that is acceptable. There seems to be no lag booting up or opening things like Chrome or Thunderbird. Word and Excel start in seconds. It's a Dell Inspiron 15, 3000 series. Have you seen the teardown and upgrade procedure on YouTube? It's scary... But boy does that Mac still sound like fun...

So I finally got tired of the old computer being slow. Saved up some money and bought a new Dell. It has a dual core AMD 7th generation A6 CPU running at 2 GHZ but it can go higher, up to 2.7 GHz when it needs to, 4 GB DDR4, 500 GB hard drive, and Radeon graphics. I've been using Chrome for years. I like the fact that my bookmarks are synced on all the platforms I use. I never have more than 6 tabs open so it's not too bad, seems to use 1.2 GB memory at the most, usually half that. Firefox isn't much faster and tries to do too many things I do not need. I think Edge is the fastest on my system buut I don't use it for anything but job searches and sites that only work with IE.

I never did care for IObit's ASC. It does too many things that I do no need nor understand. I stick with Malwarebytes, CCleaner, and Syncback. Now if I could just get Windows to work with Gmail in calendar....SMH....
