Space... its big, and empty, and boring. Wait... that doesn't sound right.

Yeah, "war" is broken, they don't fight, they fly ships away that you hand over, they go to peace again as soon as possible. I've handed my allies fleets to defend themselves, or retake their own lost worlds, and they just fly, fly away. Sometimes they go park in my space. *lame*
Wael, that all depends on how you bunker your worlds, and how your diplo bonus is doing. I'm the dominant power in my galaxy, in spite of 3 civs having more military power ( I have *none*), and its been that way for 300 turns, at the beginning of which, I was mid-way on the chart, and Chair of UP. I've been Chair every time. Doesn't seem to do anything, though, can't even maintain headquarters anywhere, which is ridiculous.</
We need the ability to post notes on our map.
I've also noticed the AI is loading planets with ships, and then moving them out again, pointlessly. Same behaviour, different object, yes? I've also noticed starbases tend to be shells, and placement is ... less than optimal. At least they're finally getting spacing right.
Still alive and well in 1.41. Everyone comes to my space to park/fight. Even when losing a war horribly, fleets get sent to menace my stuff.
At the moment, UP is pretty useless, every proposal is simply defied.
Why can't there be a sidebar of buttons on the planet list, allowing me to micromanage from the galactic map, without having to enter each planet? Why can't I tell the status of each planet in terms of focus from the galactic map, by looking at the planetary list? A simple coloured dot in the upper right corner of each planet's pic would tell you at a glance the current focus setting. I still find myself shutting down all shipyards, and h
I agree. "Go to" button, a map, clear indications of what value the starbase has, would be very nice. More information. You could have most of the details available in a single line, in different coloured text, with simple map coordinates, if you like. For an advanced race in space, its awfully clear we don't know what's going on.
Does make it seem a little two-dimensional, doesn't it? I find myself getting to the point of guaranteed win, and losing interest. Too much like work mopping up the galaxy.
Funny, my system was running the game smoothly in 1.2 and 1.3, and chugs hard in 1.4.
Yeah, this is definitely alive and well in 1.4. Next up, the AI is ignoring game settings, such as "no tech trading", "no surrender", and the game's interface is ignoring "show all ships" options. Also, my system is back to chugging hard past turn 250. *sigh*.
My last game, the Burran were trying to defend themselves from the Klepart, both my allies, both Bene. I'm supplying defensive warships and tech to the Burran to shore them up against the Klepart without annihilating the Klepart. I've wiped out the Gaulox, originally between the two, and parted out their five planets between the two, four smaller worlds to the Burran, as they're weaker, and the capitol to the Klepart. </p
In my last game, two of my Bene allies were at war for over 300 turns, couldn't stop them, while the Drengin and the Odair went war/peace at least 5 times. Also, ditto for the AI declaring war while completely out of range. Next they declare war without invasion tech, and no hope of wiping out my starbases. Also, my allies don't go to war when I do, with a military alliance?... also, we can trade tech with " trade tech disabled".
Durantium diplomacy. Trade them durantium for the stuff you need, in particular their special resources, and maintain open borders with as many civs as you can, to preserve relations. This allows you to rinse and repeat with the durantium.
"selfish"? That's needlessly incendiary.
I've had carriers go into battle with partial loadout, but its rather rare. I believe there's a few rounds max of downtime before replacement fighters are generated.
I've never used a rally point yet. Also, Ghislain, if the Drengin are at war with them, and have a planet within spitting distance, the AI had better be considering invasion as a possibility.
"now that that whole war business".. except no war, we've been allies since it was possible. Even better, I'll send them transports loaded with troops I bought from their enemy, park them right outside the enemy planets, with defensive ships.... ... they don't invade... they fly away. Let me recap. I've laid waste to the enemy defenses, moved transports into position, complete with defending fleets that
I personally chalked it up to a bug the moment a race I hadn't encountered yet told me I'd colonized in their space, when I hadn't even left my own solar system yet. Inside the first ten turns, of my first 1.4 game.
I concur with the vast majority of your points. Good post.
Flip on a Star Trek opening sequence. Stunning visuals. Load up a Gal Civ 3 map. ........ That's the problem.
I would point out, a fractured nation can politically have a major impact on the global economy, particularly when one faction seizes power, and then promptly invades a neighbour, or commits some sort of atrocity against one. I would imagine the same would hold true on a galactic level. Doubly so given some species ability to wipe out entire planets, and so forth.
Wonderful post, Naselus, and I can't +1 you again yet. I totally would.
Going with the OP on this, and can't understand the "Everything is fine." people.
