It's a known issue with SP2 upgrade. In some cases Safe Mode uninstalation of Bootskin and re-installation helps. But there are cases where nothing helps to resolve the problem, but going back to original XP bootskin.

My advice was for those who do not steel DVDs or illegally RIP them; such ones have to pay for the DVD anyway. Instead of settling for a crappy FREEWARE with crappy graphics and limitations and spyware, get the real thing for FREE as a compliment. Secondly, when you go to any retailer, they have old DVDs for $3 or $4 bucks. I'd say that's a pretty good deal. All you have to look for is a sign saying that DVD playing software's included.
You aren't using the same color palette for both bmps . That's a must, otherwise you'll get the result you talking about. Go to Bootskins website - http://www.bootskin.com and click on Support and you should be able to find out how to do that.
Why don't you buy a DVD that comes with free DVD player like WinDVD or others? I got all the features of a pro version and I cannot be more happy about the picture quality.

If you are using Windows XP SP2 (which I think you do), do the following. Run the BootSkin application, click on File/Import from file... Then close Bootskin app. You will need to repeat this action once or twice (or as many times as needed) for the bootskin to show up in the preview window. Sometimes the Imported file doesn't appear in the preview window right away. (an issue with SP2 compatibility) Consider this as my opinion. <img src="http://images.stardock.com/images/smiles/
