Need Bootskin help, please.

My BootSkin is just humoring me and doing what it wants.... I select the bootskin I want and apply. Then I get: "Bootskin applied successfully. This skin will be used next time this machine is rebooted". I close bootskin reopen it and it has reset to..... Currently using: Default System Boot Screen

Vary BAD news, Yrag...... in 'Safe Mode'.... not much seems to work..... I tried applying the bootskin and it did the same as in this mode.

I have Comcast High Speed internet serevice and it wouldn't open my homepage or let me get on line..... wouldn't even use wallpaper (just a black screen and windows classic look). Yet, in this mode everything except bootskin works..... I have a strong feeling that isn't supposed to work like that.

Have another beer.... I will too.

If you mean in safe mode, that's how it's suppose to be....remember I said 'nothing will load that you have installed'. Having said that, somethings will be running...Windows processes, firewall, AV and sometimes proggies that prevent the changing of certain settings (msconfig startups would be one). Unless you know what program is preventing the change, you can't change it.....and actually that's a good thing. You see this boot screen for a couple of seconds...not really worth it. Pick something more beneficial to your viewing enjoyment so that there's a rhyme or reason to really screwing up your machine.

...whata' think...??

I think I like your wise words.... it's not that big a deal and if everything else is working fine why mess with it.

I'm so happy to hear that's how safe mode operates..... I was starting to freak out.

Thank you as always, Yrag..... your tops!

LOL Its ok Gary, I had fun just reading and learning a few things
My question would be; can this problem be caused by the 'clashing' issue between BootSkin and SP2? (if she has SP2 installed)

I'd like to thank FilkoSE and AP_67 as well. You guys always give good advise and come to the rescue in a pinch!!
Tahnks again, fellas!

Sorry I didn't answer FilkoSE, I used Spy Sweeper until about a month ago and then swiched to spybot and ad-aware.

Is it still installed on your PC?

Thanks Nan...I don't think she has SP2 installed (I think I know more about her system then I need to!!!) but to answer your question...it shouldn't. The idea behind her going into safe mode was that MS security wouldn't have stopped her from making changes as long as she was the administrator where as fully loaded it might and then you would have to go into 'services' and what not. She freaked in safe mode...think what it would be like in Services...yikes!!!

The only odd thing I find in this is that she should be getting a pop up from something disallowing the change...that has me stumped. Oh well...I'll get over it...

...now...where did I put that beer..???

You crack me up, Yrag!!

The answer is probably because when I mess something up I don't do it half-baked!! AND then it takes you 100 posts to help me fix it!!

Have another beer!

Apocalypse_67, actually I did try to install SP2 and the installation got interrupted, so I asked Yrag how to get rid of it.... but I couldn't quite remove all of it. Yrag is right he does know more about my PC than I do!

But, I have a feeling you maybe right because it was around that time that bootskin stopped working.... I just never got around to getting it back on until today.

I have come to believe that once you install something on your PC you never really get rid it!

FilkoSE, no, I removed it..... or so my PC let me think, but I did do the uninstall.

I hope you get it fix Aarielle. Gary is always a great helper (even after a few beers ) I would've told you to do a disk format and a fresh installation.
