I, for one, miss the ctl-s or function key quicksave that past GC games have had.

No. Please read this , and if you've already done the steps about tuning virtual memory, updating drivers, etc, read the bit at the bottom about reporting a problem and submit a support ticket, as fixing crashes is the developer's highest priority.
FWIW, in GC2 if you turned off cultural victory but then culture flipped every planet in the entire galaxy, it counted as a military victory.
Btw I've noticed that the invading force always wins the planet - obviously this is not WAD.
I'm sure they have a lot more work planned for that.
Oh man, I would love this. MoO3 had a similar feature and I used it like mad. Personally, I think the list should be limited to discovered planets and allow you to filter by bonuses, class, etc. This would make it MUCH easier to manage the flood of colony ships that I start at turn 30-50. When you have 15-20 heading towards new worlds, things can get a bit confusing.
MoO3, yes, that was what I was remembering! Th
Check out this post. There's a lot of good information there, and the suggestion on virtual memory settings might help you.
Ah, ok, I understand now. I haven't looked into modding at all yet, though, so I can't address your point about the range.
So Zilpha is your planet? It sounds like the Iridians sent a trade ship to Zilpha. Totally normal. Although I think the screen should show Iridia as the origin and Zilpha as the destination.
Idle colony - there are unending projects you can assign to your colony (Research Project, Birthing Subsidies, etc) that will allow you to proceed. Orphan shipyard - You can respond "Ok" to the prompt about the shipyard having no sponsor, and you'll then have an orphaned shipyard. I created 2 shipyards for the same planet by accident, did this, then un-anchored the shipyard and moved it to another planet that hadn't built one yet.
I've already reported this.
As did a couple of others of us. The screen caps are nice way to show it, though.
I miss the hot blonde chick in the old version of GC who got a scar and an eyepatch if you took the evil morality path.
I got a response to my ticket today stating that the developers had been able to reproduce the problem and that a fix would be in the next patch. Great!
I don't have any examples of Ideology points not being deducted. If you could get me some reproducible steps or a save game with the issue I would love to check it out.
I opened a ticket on this last night and supplied a saved game with instructions on how to observed the problem when colonizing two worlds in succession.

I have so far designed and played three custom races, and all of them have the Patriotic trait ... so you can guess I feel the same way as you. I like playing with lots of colonies, and the penalty really kicks in fast.
Yes, GC for OS/2 had a cloaking tech you could research and it made cloaked ships available. They were invisible to the enemy until you got close enough.
I opened ticket #BYB-100-39440 for this problem tonight and supplied a saved game with instructions on steps to take to demonstrate the problem.
In Beta 4 I frequently lost the UP chairmanship vote, but in Beta 5 I've won them all, with all of my enemies (and some of my friends) voting for me. Perhaps that's because I had the highest power rating, or perhaps it's something more complicated. Seems odd, anyway.
Brings back memories of how excited I was when I got the Shipyards add-on for GC for OS/2!
Agreed, I never finished the scenarios in either GC1 or GC2.
If it's only one file it might be prefs.ini. I remember another game where doing a Steam verify would download 1 file and I'd find all my settings changed.
Nice!
I finished my first game with Beta 5 last night and I have to agree that it was a lot of fun. I made my own custom race, played against the Drengin, Thalans, Altarians, and Krynn with about 6 minors in a large galaxy. I was in the middle of the map with the Drengin on the left, the Thalans on the upper right, the Krynn on the lower left and Altarians on the lower right. The Drengin declared war very quickly and the Thalans a couple of turns later, so I fought and beat the Dr
GC2 (at least TA) did have a list of unowned planets, it was a tab on the planet/ship list on the left side of the screen. I do recall another game having a more useful list, don't remember which one though. As I recall, it listed discovered but unowned planets by planet quality and allowed you to queue a colony ship to go there from that window.
