You start out with 5000 credits, so either rush buy a bunch of stuff like Frogboy suggested, or move the wealth/manufacturing/research slider so that your production is way biased towards manufacturing and research and you're losing a few credits each turn. You should be able to do that and still rush buy some stuff. You'll have to either cut back or build up your economy before you run out of money, but it gives you a much faster start.

This is as good a place as any to ask, I'm just not sure anyone knows (at least I don't). I would guess it's related to faction power, but I don't know if it's just that or if something else factors in.
Bless you, my son. [e digicons][/e] I don't have the patience to even set foot in those forums.
How can you tell if a planet is good for trade? Or dose it not really matter?
Part of the value of a trade route is calculated based on the income produced by the two worlds involved. So you want to select one of your worlds that has a good sized population and perhaps some wealth buildings (and trade buildings if you've researched them) and then look for an AI planet that also looks rich and is as far away
Is anyone willing to tell me what the six mouse-over stats mean for a ship? One's beam weapons, another is missiles, and the other I guess is kinetic weapons? I guess there's a stat for shields and armor too in there?
Yes. Shields, point defense, and armor.
I'm a huge Babylon 5 fan and have been loving the gifs you've been posting.
Very nice, thanks!

Those people have been making copies of the original races and/or using user created ones. There are some user created ones in this thread.
I don't see any mention of it in the 1.01 patch notes, so open a support ticket if you feel strongly about it - it might raise it in their priority list.
I prefer large maps, and am looking forward to trying some of the larger sizes, but like others have mentioned, during Beta 6 I was playing exclusively on small and tiny for 2 reasons - (1) the updates were coming out so fast that I had no hope of finishing a game otherwise, and (2) I was starting some tiny games to try to recreate a bug for a ticket and then abandoning them once I'd done so. So now that the game is released I'm going to be skewing the stats the other way.

There's a win on turn 1 posted on the metaverse.
There's no mining of asteroids yet, unless there's a resource like durantium in them.
Most mice signal a middle mouse button when you press down on the scroll wheel.
The patch notes for 1.01 say that if you cancel a rushed project you are refunded the credits spent and you can then rush something else.
I've noticed that it's possible to change the victory options during the game. If the alliance win is turned off, can you just turn it on again?
According to the metaverse, the 4000+ normal difficulty large map influence win was on turn 1. At best this was via some huge exploit, at worst a cheat of some kind. At any rate, I'm going to ignore the metaverse and just enjoy playing the game in my own style.
Thanks very much, found mine there, sorry about yours being missing.
I didn't find mine either yet, they go by quicker than I can read them.

Someone on another thread reported that he got no audio in the tutorial/campaign if he turned the music off, but if he turned it back on he got the audio. Could that be your case?
You're welcome, glad you got it working.

If you haven't already, read this post, and if there's nothing there that solves the problem, open a support ticket as described at the end of that post.
