I'd flag this as spam if you weren't such an upstanding member of the community. VPN's are VERY important in the age of internet surveillance and snooping. Cheers if this is a good deal, can't say I've felt the need to price out a VPN, but then again I'm fairly boring in an ostensibly hospitable country for boring people. cheers, -tid242
I doubt anyone is beating the AI on suicidal with the new patch. This was the first build with my main AI branch checked in. Post release I want to add several new difficulty levels so that there's a more gradual ramp up. Gifted is now too tough.
I'm glad to hear it's been ramped up! Thank you!
I understand. It would be nice to be able to play with family over LAN without buying more copies. I already did buy more copies, however. For me I just don't want it to CRASH after several turns in MP. I have purchased 4 copies for myself and my kids. I really want the game to succeed. Every time I play with my neighbor (who also bought 2 copies), it gets stuck after several turns. Make ya not
New splash screen is pretty similar to this crappy movie from 1985 though. Took me forever to remember the name of this stupid movie, hah. Oh yea, and there's even this from the wiki..
In the late 21st century, an interstellar<
Battle Viewer is much louder then the rest of the game.
YES! Also since it transitions from serene beautiful universe music to the middle of a war-zone sounds. This is most apparent when my brother is playing in the next room over, where I don't hear anything, then I'll hear a random space battle, then nothing again until the next battle . :)
Upgrading to more RAM is an option, but since the min requirements for the game are listed as 4 GB then it should still work (albeit with not all map option for example). What about other people who don't know how to upgrade or can't afford to.
This is a very valid point, if it is indeed memory constraints that are leading to crashes. -tid242
Glad to hear it. Appreciate the updates.. -tid242
^^As I said, I made room for the data, and my experience with playing Insane maps vs tiny/small maps is equivalent on the same computer - both take approximately the same time for turn completion and all other activities. Such suggests that my computer could handle "all of the data that is required of a large map" and that, perhaps, this claim by GC3 that my cpu could not do what it is clearly able to do is a bu
You need to meet at least half of the races for it to trigger.
Ah, that would explain it. That does bring up an interesting dynamic in the larger maps with a handful of civs. Although, personally with 9 empires (one of which is me, so 8 other empires), I've definitely come across 4 of them and not had any meetings either. Is it half or "more than half"? &nbs
3) Even if I could not experience high performance on larger maps, I would still like the option to play on them (I'm fine with lag time - GC3 is a turn-based game, so nothing that I could otherwise prevent will occur between turns - also I get other rl tasks done during said periods).
It's only "performance" insofar as your computer cannot physically handle all of the data that is requi
Crashes and running out of memory should probably be separate issues. You can always open your task manager and see how close you're getting to using it all up though in any event... Unfortunately 8GB is sort of the new currency these days, 4-6GB just has trouble cutting it... Of note, Stardock did insert a setting that would keep you from starting a galaxy that is outright too big for your memory - unsure how good it is at the edges (ie

I've played a few games as Krynn on a Gigantic map with all races enabled plus one custom faction that I made a long time ago. Tight clusters, common planets, common habitable, common extreme. I think of it as a little mechanic to make sure I have at least built up the minimum defenses for my civiliziation. Besides, even if you go peaceful you should have a military. GC2 was like this too - the AI valued credits a lot more than it should have in many instances, but not when you were offering credits for their techs. The AI was pretty stingy in GC2 generally, come to think of it. The only really favorable trades that a player could make were ones where a lot of higher level strategic work was at play, since a lot of their trading seemed to be more anchored in the trade itself at face value. For example, you could convince
Is the only solution to pirates just blowing them up? Does anyone else think there should be alternative solutions to dealing with them, particularly non-militarized empires: Economically/trade focused empires -- just pay them money. Diplomacy focused empires -- research some "pirate diplomacy" tech tree stuff Research/trade -- bribe them with techs Influence/moral -- I dunno, converting them sounds cheesy - thoughts?</

It's definitely a twist from GC2. Thus far I don't think that it's good or bad per se. Just different. I think I'll need to play GC3 a bunch before deciding good/bad. But honestly I'm not all that opinionated on it. Generally I find hard choices to tend to make the game fuller and each instance unique. Most of the time I haven't found myself caring all that much which specialization to choose because it's either
In short, there are 2 main tiers to strategy. Macro long term strategy - what is it you want to do (culture flip, research, diplomacy, economics/tourism/trade, fight etc)? There are two main ways to decide what you want to do, big-picture wise Choose a race that intrigues you, look at their abilities to see what they'd naturally be good at (drengin are good at war, terrans at diplomacy, Iridium at commerce, krynn at flipping, e
