Hmm... So Steam and/or Stardock advertised buy both at a discount, but in reality the customer can only have one or the other (at any given time). Interesting marketing.
It's annoying the way that Steam handles DLC, I agree.. If I ever didn't just play all games with all DLC active all of the time I'd probably complain, but I can never think of a reason not to have the DLC active on pretty much

Oh, as an aside, the Steam sale starts in ~ a week or so.
Precursor worlds are sexy, but not game-changing. I think they make the game a lot more fun, personally as they create objectives that I (as a player) really want. Otherwise, the ones that add Factions are probably pretty fool-proof recommendations. The Snathi one, The Merc's pack (includes Arceans + Torians). There's the one that adds a new Terran faction - so if you love humans, you may want that one - they're less interesting than the other 3 factions I'd mentione
When people talk about having super polished smaller games (like Spaceworld Ho) they are, in effect, talking about mobile games. There is no viable market for that on the PC. What people want philosophically and what they actually spend money on are often two different things.
Even at a $5-10 price point? Or otherwise at a pricepoint consistent with mobile gaming (I don't buy any mob
So how do you continue to colonize once you get past 10 admins? I know some more admin points can be gained with research, but not nearly enough to sustain an expanding empire that needs admins for colony ships, let alone a defense fleet. I posted a debug.err and a savegame that reproduces it over in the discord bug channel yesterday afternoon .. In my case, it was to pay someone /else/ to go to war (because I was busy fighting my own wars), but yea, CTD every time..

You know.. I'll just throw out there that I'm probably about the only person in the 4x universe that just never really got into Civ at all. Tried several (including the original) and just never really liked them very much. GC2 on the other hand is one of my most favorite games of all times. On the one hand I think that a fantasy setting is a better format than "real life" (because there's always plenty to complain about the inaccuracies with real life", but on anothe

Out of curiosity, does SD no longer sell Demigod? A friend I used to play it with was asking about it (I think he has a defunct impulse copy) and I told him to buy from SD so that it would be linked to a SD account, rather than just Steam - but then I couldn't find it anywhere.. Is it buried or just entirely not available? It really was a fun 2-person LAN game to play - just beat on things and drink beer, what can go wrong, really? cheers
Looking at my email preferences, what is "Tachyon"? IIRC, this was the network (RT, MP) technology SD was working on for, ostensibly Ashes - so is the Tachyon newsletter for competitive gaming, engine/tech updates or something else? I'm apparently subscribed, but don't really recall ever getting anything Tachyon-related, unless I'm misremembering what Tachyon is.. ? -tid242
Quoting Alstein, reply 13 I think the reason you're seeing the expectations of consumers of games (largely millenials and younger) becoming tough is a combination of higher competition on Steam, and the effects of late capitalism. Simply put, the public is so squeezed
On a related note, thought I'd throw this up here, for people who haven't seen it. Life and Death in the gaming market - it's tough out there.. Obsidian pulls through (obviously), but just barely - it was the Pillars backers that saved the company.. It's a great vid/documentary..

Ah yes, the holy trinities of business... Enjoy your work, Make a lot of money, Live withing the law - pick any two. Focus your business on: Best Product, Best Service, or Best Price; some combination of 2, but never all three (as a corollary, if you walk into any business and can't figure out which 1 or 2 of these they're focusing on and which 1 or 2 they're sacrificing - chances are that business won't be there in 3 years (or apparently 40 years, if it's Sears))..
