If it was as simple as dreaming them up like the pictures PR supplied then it would be a common practice. So to say it bluntly, its hard to do.

Yes you can turn of autoupdating on any of your steam games. Of course some games that are heavily online may then refuse to let you play until you get the latest client version but it's doubtful that will be the case here at least for single player.
Another aspect of the game that I did not enjoy was the scale aspect. Planets are almost as close to each other as stars are to each other.
Yes it is explained in GC2 that the starmap is a flat and spacially distorted map showing travel time rather than spacial distance between objects. The explaination given that near large masses warp drives are less effective. This means the distances between stars can be traveled more quickly than distances in proximity to stars.</p

Your brain takes the input from your eyes and does all sorts of clever visual processing of the

Frankley the delay in demoing the ship designet is irrelevant. As someone who has been involved in software development I can tell you issues leading to minor delays and demos failing are very common and not at all indicative of a project failing. The alpha is an alpha its mostly meant as an engine test the games still a year away from release and they made no bones about the fact the alpha is not feature complete and uses a lot of place holder art. I agre

This sounds like a good idea to me after all you spend all that time designing killer ships then never get to see the underside of them again. I can't see a negative to adding this feature and it really shouldn't be hard to unlock the camera a bit more.

Actually the concept of a ship built around an astroid is a good one; how about an organic ship that grows itself by consumming an astroid. Anyway thanks for that it shows a few hints about the designer like improved animation options.....What I really want though is an indesigner screen shot so we can see more of a hint as to new features. There is already on in the vault suggesting that you can blend multiple materials in the new designer.

I have to say you presented the origional idea every well and it would be visually interesting just from an implemention and utility (e.g. for managing your colony, you'd have to keep rotating it), point of view not practical in my view. But I say keep offering suggestions it's what this forums here for after all.

Or you know a desing document for the ship editor [e digicons]:D[/e] .

Ships will be built by shipyards in GC3 rather than directly by planets. Ship yards are starbases effectivley fed production points by planets in the new design. so yes a planet will be able to build improvements while feeding some production to a ship yard as I understand it.

DARCA, I'm well aware of how our brains process visual information there is quiet a lot of research available on this and we dedicate a larger area of our brain to this than non-primate mammals who dedicate more of their brain to smell. However what you fail to see is an alien brain could infact be larger than ours and dedicate more of it's area to visual processing having an arbitary number of eyes. We have one example of the evolutionary process here on earth since a

To begin with, the polar regions on a Civ-style map are much, much larger than they would be in real life, and the equatorial regions are consequently relatively smaller. A triangular geodesic sphere would do away with all of these problems.
A problem that is mostly in the eye of the beholder I’m afraid, it seems

One other thing wouldn't a 360 degree field of view be better than being able to look over your shoulder, so why not have 6 eyes with overlaping fields of view? Just thinking about some of the points from DARCA's earlier reply.

I would like to see ground battles played out stratigicly over multiple turns on the hex based planet maps e.g. troop movements, zone capture that sort of thing.

Not sure that I fully agree with your suggestion, but I do strongly agree they need to do more in GC3, but haven't considered fully what iwould like to see.

GFireflyE , I think you are going to have to get to downloading software including games from digital distributers be that steam or another physical media is on the way out for software delivery. Though personally I don't care if you use steam or not obviously.

It was way to simplified in GC2.

True however it's not in the interest of anyone in the American government for it to be confirmed as true, indeed that would be very damaging to the nations credability, preassure on Senators or Congressmen would just lead to an closed door investigation followed by another public denial. Ultimatley it doesn't really matter but it does fit the profile of the sort of security law Snowden's leak suggested they had been intentianally building into key internet security protoc
