I liked the humor. It is part of the series. Removing it would remove part of what makes GalCiv GalCiv. Granted, some of the tech descriptions were a little over the top, but they got much better in TotA. Overall though, I preferred the tech descriptions in GalCiv 1. They were very informative about the human civilisation. Yet, they also retained a level of humor at times, but without going into silliness. The tech trees in TotA went into a similar direction, but they didn't went

How does that make sense? Why would your sensor equipment become weaker, just because you are further away from home? On the other hand, if certain space features (like nebulas or black holes) had an effect on sensor range, then I could understand it.

GalCiv 2 already has such events. They are called Mega Events, and were introduced in Dark Avatar. The one you mentioned actually sounds like one. The Jagged Knife, to be exact. Pirates can't take over planets. They are only a nuisance for your ships. Especially the Mega Event version. When they appear, their ships will be more powerful than the ones of the most powerful race. Overall, I'd say it is very likely for the Mega Events to return in GalCiv 3. Hopefully, there'll
