However, my sister was not the only one who got stung by the download upload file sharing practice MS implemented for Win 10. A member here, Benmanns, I think, also go stung... and he is somewhat more tech saavy than many, You may have been lucky, but the intent to 'file share' IS stipulated in the 40+ page EULA, not that I'm going to hunt is down now to prove a point.
As for not upgrading to Win 10, it is not entirely because of advertising, though a significant enough deterrent. No, it's more about the snooping and prying into personal files and folders, sharing that information with 3rd parties and using MY resources for purposes not benefiting me... and that's not silly. My sister recently told me that while she was upgrading to Win 10, a download of 3gb, 11.6gb was uploaded as well.&nbs
So you're saying you don't have any data that's not stored on that standalone PC and that PC is never hooked up to a network? And I'd agree on the targeted ads. I'd prefer all of these option default to off. But they CAN be turned off. Deciding not to upgrade just because you have to turn something off is just silly.
Regarding the specific point originally brought up in the original post. 1) The Privacy Policy. Obviously the majority of it has been removed for maximum effect but you'll find a similar policy with any USA based company that stores data. They're basically saying that if LEO's coming knocking at the door for your data, they will give it to them. Check your ISP, I'd put money on them having the same policy, at least for you US based viewers. Have
I take it you don't read many EULA's?
It also continues even after you've won. I won an Ascension victory right as it was getting interesting, so I decided to keep playing. I still take the huge negative penalty for "pursuing a scientific victory". In general, this seems to be a rather strong penalty.
Meh, wireless is inherently less secure. That said.... 1) Just turn WiFi sense off on your device to begin with. 2) Get better WiFi security. IE, it doesn't matter if I was to accidentally share my private home connection over WiFi sense because you're still going to be directed to a splash page to log in with a second set of credentials. Plus I check the client list on a regular basis to make sure there's no unknown devices connecti
Unfortunately there's still a lot of business/enterprise products that use Flash. VMWare Web Client and vRealize Operations/vCOPS both require flash. Solarwinds Orion also uses Flash. The environments I support (banking industry) have a lot of applications that use Flash as well. While I completely agree it needs to go away, you guys might be surprised how much stuff still uses Flash. Ditto for Java which I put in the same bucket. Unfortunately busine
I'll check out that change and see how it looks. Started another map in the mean time. I've got the 6 closest planets to my starting system colonized and all the resources I've found being mined so far. 20 Durantium, no more than 2 of any of the other resources. That doesn't seem normal to me
Hey guys, I mentioned this back during beta but something still seems to be off on the larger map sizes, at least in my mind. I can provide some screenshots when I get home but for now details will have to suffice. Insane map size, tight clusters, star frequency, planet frequency, and habitable planet frequency all set to abundant. In my mind, I shouldn't be having to hunt for planets with those settings. But a high portion of the star systems have no inhabitable p

If this is for a corporate environment, just disable USB storage via GPO. If it's for home, don't plug unknown USB drives into your system?
That's the best you can do?
It was just as silly as "it burns disk space" as a reason not to use updates. This isn't the 90's. Storage is dirt cheap these days. If you're so pressed for space that you can't afford the space used by Windows Updates you're doing something wrong. A bunch of the servers I manage are running on 20Gb vDisks and they manage to "squeeze in" Windows update
You might need to look into FSX....it's quite an 'extensive' program. You can fly your plane amongst actual air traffic. The only thing you can't do is look out your window and see BOTH planes flying overhead. Hooking into realtime ATC is just part of it...it also hooks into [or can do] realtime weather. BTW....11 is now 'happy' with FSX....I expect another associated update fixed the anomaly.<br /
Not really...in the case where you don't use MS Office (for example) and patches/etc. are being pushed in the download for it, why should you be forced to accept them? It may be pointless to have it installed, but it's also not doing
I see nothing in that first article that applies to consumer editions of Windows, that's purely for businesses. But frankly I'd be overjoyed if they forced critical updates on home users. Running outdated versions of Windows (or any other OS, or even most software in general) "because I'm in control of my system" is just dumb. It's being stubborn for the sake of being stubborn. Every time somebody asks me to look at their computer because it's runni
I don't which is why my house is constantly full of electronics. My friends laugh at me because I'll open a closet and find a video card or SSD that I had forgotten I even had. I used to be on a 6 month upgrade cycle for my main PC but I made my self stop that. Then started buying servers. Things went downhill quickly after that. There's 3 adults in my house counting me. At this point, we have a total of 16 active computers plus literally an ent
Well, being a redneck, you know I have an opinion. It is my opinion that AMD is much preferred over Intel hands down, at least in my world. I have 3 AMD 6 core processor rigs and one Intel core i7 rig. All self built, all having SSDs and 12 + GB ram, and similar GFX cards. I much prefer the AMDs. Intels are good, don't get me wrong. Yet another reason not to use unsecured wireless networks.
The advantages of Plex is it's mobile versions and premium (paid) features. I love having access to my media library over the internet on my phone from anywhere.
LOL. Oh, AMD. You're announcing that your processor that's on the roadmap for 2016 will keep up with Intel, presumably based with what Intel has out now. Have you learned nothing? Don't get me wrong, I hope AMD does release something. But their last attempt to make something keep up with Intel needed 220 watts to do so and still failed at it.
