UTC-0800 [PDT] Unfortunately, availability is very limited ... I work the night shift which has me gone from 1730 PDT to 0600 PDT (0130 - 1400 GMT) on Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday nights into the following mornings, and occasionally Wednesday nights. 1-2 hours between work and sleep is woefully inadequate to play a TBS, so these nights/mornings are generally not good for me with the exception of Saturday morning after work, as I can stay up several hours since I don'
I am pretty sure none of the game text will be finalized at the alpha stage.

This is hardly something new or revolutionary ... VR headsets have been forecast as the next big thing for a couple of /decades/ now, as has 3D, but the fad comes and goes. I don't see any particular reason why it might /really/ take off this time compared with all the previous fizzle-outs. I definitely wouldn't throw out your PC-with-a-monitor game development studios just yet (and I certainly hope you don't), but I'm certainly not an expert.
I can't access your link or the images from work, but you must be mistaken. There is no way Sins could be more popular than LH.
It doesn't seem that surprising, actually ... Sins is more multiplayer-oriented. I'm glad singleplayer-oriented games are still being developed. I like Sins okay, but the AI is definitely lackluster for singl
Brad: Just out of curiousity, since you seem much more relaxed about sharing details other publishers would probably be appalled by ... have you ever seen significant bumps in sales of older games (like GC2) that correspond with fan-made mods? More than just a few dozen or so participating on a thread about a mod, do mods actually generate a significant bump in the baseline sales for the game?
Well don't worry then, TESO's engine doesn't approach the quality of Skyrim's. It looks good with a decent framerate on my $500 homebrew PC, whereas Dragon Age: Origins looked less good and had a

I am curious to see a Skyrim-level engine's render of the parts of Tamriel we haven't seen since Morrowind, but my curiousity isn't strong enough to pay an MMO subscription. I'll probably sate myself watching TESO fans' "Let's Plays" on Youtube.
A mechanic I find missing from TBSes is an overlay showing the last turn's moves (or replay). This is very frustrating when you can place a unit on 'sentry' mode to awaken when a hostile unit enters its sensor range, but the hostile unit scoots out of sensor range off-screen, so you don't see it -- but you get hassled to do something with your awakened unit, but you aren't allowed to know what it was your unit saw to wake it up. Some sort of overlay would help,
I'm no fan of MMOs, either. I gave a couple a try -- namely, Anarchy Online and Star Trek Online. Got bored quickly with AO, and quickly became disgusted with STO as well. I have enjoyed the Elder Scrolls games ever since Morrowind. I hope TESO won't mean an end to single player Elder Scrolls games, the way The Sims brought an effective end to the SimCity series (sorry to die hard fans, but SC5 is a pale imitation of its predecessors).
Remains to be seen. Its one thing to sculpt your own 'verse, like GalCiv or Elemental. I think trying to further the creation of someone else and retain the creators' vision expressed through various nuances its fans will go for is harder, and you won't know whether you've succeeded or failed until release.
Clicking on the "Store" link from the galciv 3 site still shows the Founder's Elite Edition as being available for purchase. Wasn't it supposed to no longer be available after March 2?

My guess is beta would start no sooner than half a year after alpha, maybe even longer. I think Stardock learned its lesson with War of Magic on rushing things. I seem to recall the beta for WoM lasted a long time as well ... I was an early adopter of WoM so I got all the perks when Brad took his hat in hand to all of us. Lots of developers/publishers push out bad releases, but so few have the decency to make it right.
I have been elitessimilated.

This is only true if the molecular oxygen is maintained within specific temperature and pressure ranges. Since this thread is about Gas Giants, within which temperature and pressure can vary greatly from its outer edge to its core, this can become an important aspect of the technology required for mining the gas planet's resources. I hope the upcoming Nitrous engine (not in GC3) can do for strategy games what the Unreal engine did for FPSes.
Its tough. I have played several games, got good, but then I've had trouble again with several massive population collapses. Managing resources is such a pain when you can be swimming in food one minute, then suddenly the next its all gone and my population plummets from 150 to 40.
I dunno, that wouldn't be very GalCiv-ish. Leaders in GalCiv are more disembodied. I like the sovs in Elemental (though I miss the dynasty/children from WoM, hope they make a comeback), but its a different game.
