Yep. I misunderstood that part. However, I think the reasoning holds for any/all reasons anyone would want to see a planet's tiles. I also think the code simplification is a strong reason to request that SD does this.
Did you see the link in another thread about an interview with Brad Wardel? He said pretty much what you just said and hinted that this was going to be different in GC3.
As far as I am concerned, this whole thread is a non-issue. I don't care if a mechanism is included in the game that prevents one's ships from entering another's space borders. If the game includes it, I will adapt. If mines are included in the game I would insist that countermeasures of some sort also be included, perhaps including the ability to destroy the mines at stand-off ranges (which means adding ranged attack capabilities to ships, and might make the whole idea us

Yes, GC2 also has bonus tiles for morale. It always seemed odd and unbalanced to me that there were no bonus tiles for economy.

[quote who="joeball123" reply="91" id="3418121"]A large part of the usefulness of mines comes from that there is no easy way to disable or detect them. An IFF transceiver which disables the mine against certain targets is therefore an inappropriate component to include on a mine for two reasons: first, a transceiver is an active component which both transmits and receives (hence transceiver rather tan receiver), which basically paints a big target marking the location of each mine in your min

How about having the battle camera with an option to watch the battle from within one of your ships, then have the sounds of the ship's activity and impact of weapons hitting the ship play. Add a device to the chair to shake it so that the environment also feels authentic. Then let the player toggle an option to have all space sounds or only the sounds from the ship that the camera is viewing the battle from. The chair? The technology for that has been around for decades.

I think a modification to the original post is needed to include how some CPU manufacturers are providing some CPU chips with integrated GPUs. I think these chips do some sharing of the system RAM between the GPU and CPUs, so an investigation needs to be done about how much RAM one needs to add to satisfy the game's needs in such a configuration.
