terraforming is a neat idea but it is a pipe dream at our present level of tech. Could we do Mars? Yes, but it would take hundreds if not thousands of years. It would be a public works project that would require far longer than most nations last. By the time we finished we would more than likely be colonizing other star systems for far less money and time. Civilizations are scaled as Category I,II and III. Cat I is the ability to manipulate energy on a global scale. We aren't even th

But what are the odds of the UP bringing up the issue ? I have had the vote come up several times but on the level I have been playing (normal and below) it has never been voted into effect. I have played some fairly long games with tech up to Battle Stations III and singularity tech. I have never filled a starbase or even com
If you have the more advanced attack/defense modules installed you probably don't want to bother with the weaker ones. Hmmm, when we get the public release, I need to spend some time with the manual. I thought that all the firepower and defense modules were cummlative
Why would you not want to know when new firepower is available? If you are saying you should know without being reminded I might agree but I could still use the help. With 8-10 starbases I have a hard time keeping track of what is still available vs full. It is not a big issue.
The finished product may or may not have this but if not a feature that would be useful would be some icon or signal on the starbases to indicate they are still subject to upgrade. When you build a lot of starbases it becomes confusing remembering which ones still have upgrades possible. Just a little thingy like the hammer icon on the planets that would go dark when a starbase is fully loaded and come back on when new tech makes more modules available.
For Colphe: There are two kinds of auto command. The auto explore in the beta works when you hit the key A but it is for exploring anomalies with the survey ship. I have not seen a button for it but I recalled the key command from GCI and it still works. There is a button for sector sweep and like star pilot I never cared for how sector sweep worked in GCI. I would build more scouts if I could set them to explore any unexplored sectors on the map but they just
Just wondering, if I have a planet with a manufacturing bonus tile and I build the manufacturing capital on the tile does the tile bonus multiply the capital bonus? The same question would apply to a research capital built on a research bonus tile, a political capital built on an influence bonus tile or a project like Ultra Spices built on an approval bonus tile. If not I assume the only way to gain advantage from the tile is to build the normal improvement on the tile.

Why would you want to? what are you looking for?
I totally agree on the research stations and resource gathering on gas giants and mercury type rocks. Terraforming a planet like Venus might such a far future tech it would be beyond a tech victory.
There are no 1 0r 2 planets. 4 is the lowest I have seen but I saw someone refer to a 3. Low class planets are usually fairly worthless but not as much as they were in GCI. A quality 4 planet like Mars, being near Earth, can be productive and an asset if the limited resources are judiciously utilized and the population is limited to 3 billion.
The same thing happened to me once with the Resturant of Eternity. I assume this is a bug that will be fixed in the final release.
A high quality planet would be assumed to be near earth size, with the quality related to usable space. As in the real universe the largest planets are gas giants that have zero quality for colonization and the smallest are rocky with little or no quality
One of the captivating things about this game is the ship design feature. I spend a lot of time designing in each game. Since the designs are saved in a document file for future games, I would like to see a Ship design editor similar to the faction editor that was added to the SMAC series. I would spend hours playing with faction design and I am sure I would do the same with ship design. Not a big deal, just a thought for the future. I can put the ships together as I play b
If you just want to upgrade for new ships just click cancel and the new design will be good for future builds. The 80Gs sounds too high to upgrade 23 ships so there must be a glitch there. Even 8K sounds too high for the upgrade you are talking about unless they want it to be prohibitive. After the redesign try upgrading one ship and see what the cost will be.
In my games when I get to Advanced level there is a message saying that we know all there is to know and further spending is unnecessary. I then cut off the expionage spending. The information on planets, military and starbases is very helpful. A good while after reaching Advanced level I usually start getting tech and when it starts I will usually get something every 30-40 turns. My question is will we have the ability to spy on the minors in the public version. The game k
Just eye candy Hmmm. I saw a comment by someone that the planets with moons would be more likely to have bonus resources. Any truth to that?
I had that happen but I think it was my fault.. I either hit a keyboard key or mouse clicked on something while I was designing a ship. Anyway, I reloaded from auto-save and had no problem.
I also had it and lost it. I had the full gamma version due to some mistake I think. It had the intro and all the new ship designs and it was dramatically different from the beta version. I made the mistake of downloading the media update and it corrupted the gamma version so I had no choice but to fall back to the beta version. After playing the gamma, playing the beta is like playing GCI. Oh well, two mor
played a recent huge galaxy game for hours with no problem until I started seeing ships showing 7 moves (or however many) remaining of 0 moves available, soon followed by cdt. I can restart but can't bypass an eventual ctd in a few turns. I also had the new intro video but made the apparent mistake of "upgrading" multimedia and found the intro gone. Maybe this has something to do with the crash. Not sure why I even have the .9x version since I am not a beta tes
I think that the way the bonus is currently expressed is by giving more upgradable tiles for green thumb and and magical. One thing that I see about the game that I like is that while planet quality is nice, I have had some powerful low PQ planets due to bonus tiles and some high PQ planets that are hard to get cranked due to no bonuses. In many of my games my top production planet started as a PQ 7-8 and became the Mfg Capital cranking out ships nearly every turn. <br
Not knowing how the AI will react in the public version it is hard to say. In the current build your overall military rating affects their atitude and you can build your rating with attack ships. There is some talk that the AI will build to counter your strength but whether they will know this through espionage or trial and error battles is unknown to me. In any case, I imagine the AI will tend to attack those with a lower military rating when it is left up to them and the
I have found that range and speed problems can be solved early on by designing faster and longer range colony ships, freighters and constructors. Usually the cost of the new ship is cheaper to a few bucks more than the basic design.
Hard to figure. I have had games with much MR activity and some with almost none. I think they toned them down some in the .90 version but I haven't played enough to be certain. I see them miming resources and we can't spy on them yet.
I suspect that 256 is not sufficient
