A very small thing and I am sure it is not in the first release. While a few planets, like the near home world 4-5 PQ (Mars), are capped at low quality, the majority of 6-9 PQ will wind up being at least 10-11 after planet improvement. It would make sense if the look of the planet changed if the PQ goes high enough. It always seems a little odd adding farms to the ice and desert planets when they have improved to over PQ 10. Like the UI change that may be brough

fleets That sounds good. It also occurred to me that object loading is possible in the game. Planets are object loadable so maybe it would just be a matter of graphics and adding movement points. Since I am clueless about coding I have no idea if that would be possible.

Thanks for that heads up but I am incredulous that Stardock would allow SDC to prompt a download that is useless and perhaps harmful. Pardon me but I'm going to have to mull on that for a while

I like the idea of Carriers but it would probably be difficult to do since an object loadable ship is not part of the present concept. It might not be so hard to add another weapon category like mini-fighters and choose them as the weapon of choice on a particular ship design. Size wise and logistically they might require a huge hull and high tech level. You might even have a choice of gun, laser or missile mini-fighters each with fp 1 and loadable in groups of 4-6 with each group ta

NOT a word from Stardock that they are addressing it. I think they are pretty much focused on getting the game out and those that can't get the beta to dl right are doomed to wait for the release. I wanted to d/l the beta to a new computer recently and it cannot be done. They finally emailed me and said I will have to wait for releas

Believe me, if you had the actual gamma, you'd know it Oh yes, I know what I have now is not the gamma and your hiccup description is a good way to put it. Previously, I did have the .92 gamma and like you say there is no way to mistake it from the beta. The difference were so numerous I can't list them all but they included, the in

I thought the 0.91x was the gamma version? In my case I think it is somewhat less and may be no different from the other betas. At one point I had the gamma version. There was no mistaking it. The graphics were different, the intro movie was included and the default ship designs were included. It was fun to have it but I did get a lot of ctd an

I have downloaded all the media updates offered and I have had no problems. All of the updates are very small and I assume they are just minor corrections. The one thing that puzzles me is that my game version is 0.91[b].002 and not the 0.81a.015 mentioned above. I don't think there is a lot of difference my beta version and the .81 but who knows? I might also mention that I had the gamma version, intro movie and all, for about a week until it was corrupted by a media upda

Until I have seen the release version it is hard to comment on the random events. I would hope that there are some new events and I am lucky enough not to get the same bug wars (or pick one) event 4-5 times per game. As to the appeal, in my case I am a bean counter and I like the symmetry of the game.

Well, I did have one long update followed by the very short updates that I mentioned. The temp file that you refer to is empty. I could uninstall and reinstall the multimedia but since it is not hinderining me from playing the game and the public version is so near I might just roll with the flow. Are the versions that I mentioned equal to what you expect to be out here?

I keep getting one second updates almost every day without any noticable change in the media. My current multimedia version is 1.0.04 and my game version is 0.91[b].002. In the last 10 days I have had only one CTD and that was involving a corrupted ship design that is understandable. I am wondering if the short media downloads are actually patches. How does my version compare with the othet betas?

You can trade blocks of IP for cash tech or trade goods. I used to trade for IP in GCI but it has never been my favorite strategy and I haven't even tried it in GC2. As for the effect, some of the minors are not concerned with IP and the majors will trade if they are in a bind. Influence is your last priority when you need stuff to fight a war that you are losing. You trade IP and all other things in the trade/diplomacy window. Offer what you wish and select what you want i

The further they are away from the trade routes point of origin the more revenue they generate. Maybe the ones on the longer routes only just departed while the one on the short route was well underway ? It is the same in GC2 but the 14 number I referred to is the average income that is reported to you when the freighter makes first

Is there something about the Dark Yor that I have missed. They pop up frequently as a minor race but there is something about them that I can't put my finger on. Then tonight in a gigantic I sent my first freighter to their single planet which was only one sector away. I got a 14 payment for the trade and other freighters that went much further returned much less. My imagination, a bug, a surprise or something I have missed?

When your population number equals the food tonage you must build or improve farms. You home world produces 15 food and caps at 15 billion without a farm. New colonies produce 3 food and the population caps at 3 billion if you have not built a farm. A zero bonus basic farm produces 8 food and raises your pop limit to 8 billion. Bonus squares, farm upgrades or additional farms make higher limits possible.

A few things and remember I am playing at no higher than normal difficulty: I don't recall GC1 having a default tax level that would keep the approval at 100%. I want to say it was related to PQ, distance from home world and improvements with about 39% being the optimal tax level (hard to control over that). In GC2 the average seems to be more important than the individual planets, particularly when the planet is in your sphere of influence. I have had core planets stay in

I have not seen a PQ3 either. I never build farms on a PQ4 (Mars) and I never have a problem growing quickly to 3billion. On a PQ4 I usually build a factory a lab and just for S&G I often build the ROE. I orbit defense but usually don't build a SB.

Sounds like you are imposing high taxes. You can control a high population planet but you must mine morale resources, keep up with entertainment tech, build approval trade goods and build on the approval bonus squares when possible. There is also a limit to the taxes they will stand. The pop 3 planets are easy to keep at 100% approval but your economy must have people to grow. All this could change a lot or a little when the public version comes out

5 Replies 4,681 Views

the population will continue to grow (affected somewhat by approval) to the level of your food production. Until you have high powered approval tech you must keep your population under strict control. Don't build farms on low quality planets and don't build too many farms. On the middle grade planets you should avoid the food bonus squares With no farm planets cap at 3 billion and still produce well. You will also have population problems on High quality plane
