Well, what I have gotten out of this is that you can build one hellofa production planet by specialization, but you still need improvements, (military, approval, culture), except for research and banks. If there are no research and banks there is no harm I can see in pushing the slider all the way to the left from the get-go. I guess it might slow down your research a bit in the early going. I am impressed and I know that I will at least do some experimentation with the specialization strategy. I have not, to my recollection ever had a planet produce over 400 in mfg or research. I usually set the slider to the bottom of income and depend on anomaly bonuses until mid game. I don't really move it much until after T100. After I get Tourist income I am never in the red for credits and I seldom build econ improvements. My strategy is more immersive, I believe, but

I sort of do and don't specialize. I always specialize low quality planets in a multiple planet system, based on any bonuses available. I usually can't resist diversifying planets over PQ13 if there are multiple bonus tiles. Most of my diversified planets will produce close to 100 mgg. and 100 research, by T200, just to give you something to compare. I don't build any wealth improvements until late in the game and they are just to add insult to injury.

LOL, I bought 5-6 ships from the Drengi back when they were cheaper and you could trade when at war. I bought the ships and immediately upgraded them (no cost to upgrade at the time),. I figured if he was dumb enough to sell me the ships he would be dumb enough to let me upgrade them in his ZOC. Well he was not that dumb and he blew them all up. Just a couple of things I have noticed. You have been working on getting the AI to develop their planets for years and you have done a good job, they recognize hex bonuses, but they do not seem to recognize adjacency bonuses yet. They also seem to put too much priority on expansion vs colony development and the results are poorly developed planets in the late game. I guess I can live with the pirates being white but otherwise, I find a lot of white on the map off-putting. I have almost declared war on the freaking Iconians several times thinking they were pirates. Thankfully, there is a warning that stops the attack. They should be a darker gray but if they were they would probably be invisible Also, as they improve the game, all the colors should be made to stand out on the map better. In all of my B5.3 games, (just 3-4), the Altarians start off as usual researching big time and colonizing well. Then they seem to go into a funk and fall back in every category. Is this just a coincidence of a few games or has anyone else notice them playing soft?

The arguments over ZOC are humorous and interesting. It reminds me of real life situations where a neighborhood is up in arms because some "unsavory" element has opened a business that you believe brings down real estate value. I would of course welcome improvements like adding a scroll bar to the parts list on the bottom and making the controls work with keyboard, etc,etc. Beyond this I much prefer the GCII designer over the Stardrive method. GCII makes you feel like you have created something. The Stardrive system is just plugging in various modules on a bunch of squares that might wind up looking okay but there is no design to it . It is just telling the game what you want on the ship and the game designs
