Not at all ;-)

If like me your a story driven gamer (which I think most GalCiv gamers will be to a certain extent), then every sandbox game is the chance to immerse yourself in a unique history and Galacto-Political adventure. I've had a few ideas to try and enhance this as the game already does this very well in and of itself. 1 - Little bit of plagiarism here as I think this was mentioned in one of the Dev Streams - have the ability to name areas of the Galaxy. Would be real
May I suggest having a look at the video Gauntlet put together - really helped me a lot getting to grips with this stuff :-) https://forums.galciv3.com/472426/page/1/#3597120
Ok, thanks for the reconfirmation - I've now reached the stage where I have renamed all the Internal Names in ShipClassDefs to my chosen custom faction name. In the tutorial you then start copying across the various files from the Designs folder. I take it that this is the point where I would now go in game and create my various designs? And in regard to the naming/saving nomenclature - do I just use the (for eg) '0-LE Tiny Scout' - with the game then adding al
So just to be clear - I don't need to place any weapons or equipment when designing ships for a customer ship set? If I want weapons to be in a certain place on the hull can I still place them - and the AI will use that place for all upgrades/additions etc?
Oh, 28 is just the number of custom civs I have dreamed up so far. Many are inspired by alien races in sci-fi literature - The Jao from Eric Flynt's 'The Course of Empire', many of the races from Ian Douglas's writing aswell, plus a fair few original creations of my own. I just want to play 'The Perfect Game' - you know, designed by me from top to bottom - but you've got to crawl before you can walk and so on, so I'll do a couple of ship sets then throe caution
1- Give the game AI the option of breaking up into 2, 3 or 4 different governments if they are losing a war. This would be a different 'option' to simply surrendering to another player (which tbh I find a little boring). Not saying the current surrender option should not be on the table but breaking up into a number of independent entities would be a lot more interesting. Some or all could sue for peace seperatly, some or all
Ahhh, Leg End - just a fun way of saying 'Legend' ;-) lol - my wife doesn't hate my feet but often comments on their similarity to those of hobbits - big, flat and hairy! I feel your pain brother lol Actually managed to download your mod this weekend after all - very nice work. I think I'm going to admit, not defeat, but reality in as much as using some of your ship sets for my custom races. Purely based on the fact I don't have the time to create 28 custom
Marvellous! Watched the whole video and it answers a lot of questions I had. Haven't had a chance to download your mod or work through the tutorial - should get to that at some point next week, at which point I'm sure I'll have more questions and by extension, some specific feedback. Many thanks mate! You're a Leg End - Plus 1 karma for you :-D
Right ok, so basically copy the entire file Steam\Steamapps\common\Galactic Civilizations III\data\Game\FactionShipStyleSetDefs (and ShipClassDefs) and then just delete all but one faction's entry to use as a template? I've been thinking about downloading your mod so this seals the deal. A video tutorial would be a God Send - or in this case a Gauntlet Send lol! If/When you do it, if you could do it so a 5 year old would understand that would b
Ah Gauntlet - glad you're here! Thanks for the info - and as I have you, one more question! How on earth do I create an XML file? I'm following this guide - https://forums.galciv3.com/465834/page/2/#3595318 And in it it states - Part 1: XML Setup Create two xml files in your mod's Game folder: ShipClassDefs_NEW.xml and FactionShipSty
Hi All, Righty-ho, I'm just starting to try and follow this guide but I've fallen at the first hurdle - again! I'm having trouble creating a new XML file - how do I do this? I can create a new folder or a a text document (these are the closest options that I am aware of) but can't see any obvious option to create an XML file. Help!
Evening All, Just starting to get into designing my custom ship sets and I have a question about weapon and equipment placement. When designing the ships for my custom set, do I need to put weapons and equipment on, or will the AI know to place these on in-game based on the ship type/function. And if I do need to place weapons and equipment on which is the best to use? The most basic in the tech tree or the most advanced? And also as the ai goes up the tech
Great! Many thanks for your help guys! [e digicons][/e]
Ok well that's good to know - cheers guys :-) And yes, I've thought about the fact that there are only so many usable shades of red or green or blue etc - I'm planning a 30 player game and I know it's going to get confusing if there are 2 or more factions with a similar map colour!
GIMP is more simple than the alternatives, not sure how to help you there. You could make a copy of an existing portrait and work on it if you need the right resolution and something to work on.
Oh I just need to practice with it a little and maybe watch a couple of youtube tutorials - I have an unofficial aunt whose amazing with Photoshop so I may ask her advice. Do you know what resolution the main pics and leader thumbn
Ahhh ok, well in that case how about the other way around? I don't really have the vocabulary to ask the question directly so let me know if this is possible - 1-Design a custom faction using the UI 2-Design custom ships in the UI 3-Create the custom ship set in the XML 4-Apply the new custom ship set to the custom faction previously created in the UI I suppose what I mean is - can you create a custom ship set independently of
Hmmm, so if I create a faction with the UI what does the game set as the resistance, war endurance etc? Or can I create a faction in the UI, then mod those particular aspects in the XML afterwards? I suppose this is all leading to a question re what order should I do things - would you say the below is a good way of doing it? 1-Create a custom faction in the UI. 2-Mod the war endurance, resistance etc in the XML (if so, would I still copy and paste the Faction De

Cheers for the answers mate - but they have spawned more questions lol! What is a string reference. and how do I change it? Is the AI Weight scope like the Priority Order in the Custom Faction UI? If so can I leave that alone in the XML and amend it in the UI afterwards? In fact, thats a general question - I take it that any XML created custom faction can then be amended or customized further in-game?
Ah not at all - my pleasure ;-) Re number 1 - I'm very VERY far from an expert on XML but I wouldn't have though that it would be to much of an issue if all the splinter factions used the same tech tree, ship set etc. You could add in a 5 turn ceasefire mechanic when this happens, so the new splinter factions have a chance to form alliances - then once the 5 turn ceasefire is up you can continue the war if you want, but then 1 or more of the splinter factions might hav
May have been asked before but - is there a way of having more control over the ship colour schemes as one had in GalCiv2? The built in colour scheme's are great but more variety would be great.
Evening ladies and gentlemen! Ok, so I've found Faction Defs, and I know that I need to copy this into my Mods directory, then rename it for whatever faction I want to create, then go into it with Notepad++, delete all Defs but one (to use as a template) at which point I get the below. Just a few questions :-) FACTION_TERRAN Is this what the faction is known as only in the XML? <br /

Ok I surrender! Lol! ;-) Thanks for the offers to help, I suppose I'm just looking for a place to even start atm. Thought I'd keep it simple and start with leader pics but I downloaded GIMP and cannot make heads nor tails of it. Then I thought I'd start with custom ship sets but that looks way to much like jumping in at the deep end! Can I do the basics of each faction I want to create in-game and then mod them later, or is it better to mod custo
