Did my first mod last night! Increased allowable race trait points from 5 to 8 (I don't think 5 is enough to give each race a real individual flavour).
I'm not sure if it would realistically be possible to make a "comprehensive guide to modding" simply because there is sooo much you could change in soo many areas, it's like asking for a "comprehensive guide to medicine". there are a handful of more narrowly focuse
(Quick Edit: There is a race guide but it sucks, and the only good resource is this ) If someone starts an actual guide then I'll chip in. If there's a specifically aimed question I might be able. If someone does a video they've already done it so I'll cross my arms and preten
There's already a very detailed thread on how to make a race.
If you could give me the link I'd be greatful - but I have a feeling I know the one you're talking about, and though very detailed it contains quite a bit of jargon and assumes that the reader has at least some knowledge of coding/modding already. Plus, I think a video would be much easier to follow for those without any modding experience.<

Evening all! I posted some questions several months ago and got some very informative answers, so many thanks for that. I was waiting to get a half decent PC before I downloaded the game and got stuck in to modding - and as I now have procured myself a good machine and downloaded the game, I'm ready to rock and roll! I was wondering if any of the experienced modders here would find it an interesting challenge to make a comprehensive modding tutorial video for galci

***Orignially Posted in Modding Section*** I've had a few ideas while watching the dev streams over the last few months - 1- Give the game AI the option of breaking up into 2, 3 or 4 different governments if they are losing a war. This would be a different 'option' to simply surrendering to another player (which tbh I find a little boring). Not saying the current surrender option should not be on the table but breaking up into a number of independent entit

Very helpful indeed - what a gent! [e digicons][/e] One question if I may, related to the Jun Jilar leader potrait - I see the image you have used has been cropped around the aliens head so you can use a different background - how are you doing that? With Photoshop or similar? Any help or advice you can give would be much appreciated - and may even earn you a shiny new Karma point! Not that I'm attempting to bribe you of course&nb

Ahhh, ok, so you imported already existing images - I thought you meant you drew your own. I've scoured the internet - mostly Pinterest - to get alien images with some success but I was hoping someone knew of a simple way to make ones own images from scratch. One thing I've been meaning to ask around the subject of importing images - hopefully you or someone here will know the answer - what is the deal with getting permission to use images found online? I&

Hi guys, I'm planning out a custom race with a 'knows no mercy, knows no fear, cannot be reasoned with' kind of feel. However, with this being the case its a little odd that they can be talked to and/or traded with. Is it possible to turn off diplomacy and trade so that when you're playing against them (I don't plan to play as these guys myself), that they are simply there like an unstoppable tide that you have no choice but to fight to the bitter end?<

I can't help on the modding front, I'm in the same boat as you I'm afraid. But something you said caught my attention - you can make your own race portraits and backgrounds - how do you do that and is it easy to learn?

Nice ship [e digicons][/e] I do prefer the more realistic designs - in the sense that they look like they are based on extrapolations of current space flight theory - good job!

I made my first post a few days ago - and I'm just getting to grips with modding as well - welcome to the club! [e digicons][/e] Thanks for asking these questions - this is exactly the kind of thing I'm going to be bugging the more experienced guys about in a few weeks when I get my PC build done - you've saved me some typing so +1 Karma for you old boy!
It doesn't even have to be as involved as that - you can tell Steam to "Verify local cache files" and it will validate your game files and download and reinstall any that are missing or damaged (i.e. changed, perhaps by you). But yes, you can certainly uninstall and reinstall.

I believe so; we create an account at Steam and buy the

Thanks for the tips, and the good luck - I'm gunna bloody need it! lol! My main concern is the terrible thought of completely screwing the game up, however, I heard that if you purchase through Steam you can simply uninstall and then reinstall the original - is that correct as far as you know? When I get started on Galciv 3 I'm just going to pace myself, choose one of my planned out custom races and take it one mod at a time - first static art, then up the race traits

I'm in the same boat, and, like you, planning ahead [e digicons][/e] , and... exploiting my creations from GC2. +1 to you for asking for info. Your reasoning is sound my friend but unfortunetly I don't have the game yet. I'm saving for a new PC build atm so its going to be at least a couple more months. However the wait is killing me so I'm spemding some of the time by planning the custom races I'm going to play as/against/share - I've got about 30 so far, but to put the cherry on them all I need to decide what home system to give them. Any chance I can impose on you to post the different op

hi guys, I've had a good look through galciv gamepedia and elsewhere for a list of the home system options for custom factions - no joy. would someone be kind enough to post what the different options are and what they mean? thanks in advance!

BoftheF was indeed a brilliant game - many a wasted hour of My youth was spent on that one! The only thing that annoyed me about it was the fact that if you played as the federation the people would throw a shti-fit whenever you invaded a planet. Well remembered SamDominion - it was your suggestion which lead me to all the others, really hope these or something like these eventually make it into the game. I took the liberty of emailing this forum thread across to Stardock media servic

Yes I heard something about demographics - now that should be interesting! Is there somewhere we can post our suggestions to Stardock? Like an official forum or email address?
