I'm pretty sure this isn't the reason so many people hate Steam, but I do agree it doesn't exactly help.

Seven years ago, my computer at the time blew out half its RAM and began succumbing to the capacitor plague while I was playtesting the new Yor tech tree in Twilight of the Arnor. Yesterday, Stardock releases the Yor for GalCiv 3 and my computer breaks, forcing me to do a full reformat and Windows reinstall. Coincidence? Yeah, probably. Also, the computer is working fine now.
My current desktop is three and a half years old. The previous computer lasted for ~3 years before it stopped working entirely. The computer before that had the infamous "capacitor plague" and had its first hard failure while I was playtesting Twilight of the Arnor, although I think Hellgate: London had more to do with the breakdown. I hope to get a new machine next year, since recent games are starting to overpower my video card, and I don't have enough ram (6 gb).
I've had freezing. At first I thought it was simply due to consuming all RAM but it can freeze no matter how much RAM it's using. I haven't played very far because of the freezing, though.
This is precisely what I signed up for.
This sounds promising. Definitely an improvement over TOTA (and I loved the Yor in TOTA).
Your comparison to Mass Effect amuses me. I was playing Mass Effect for the first time during the Twilight of the Arnor playtest. :D Each sort of bled into the other as a result.
Playable Yor can't arrive soon enough for me, darnit.
Do you think the backlog phenomenon will eventually cause Steam to change their business model? E.g. transition to subscription based.
Could you elaborate on this? I don't know what "backlog phenomenon" means in this context.
I've put a limit on the number of things I'll buy during holidays, rather than amount of money. In this case, I got Galactic Civilizations III (20% discount), Saint's Row IV (75% discount, all dlc), and the Battlegrounds DLC for Legendary Heroes, which of course was not on sale at all.
He's so wrong too. I've participated in several of Stardock's early release betas and the game I downloaded at first was very much not feature complete. I recall that the race-specific tech trees in Twilight of the Arnor were introduced after testing started, and they were not all introduced at once.
I like the new look, the previous Alterians always struck me as a little too human. I know it's explained in the lore why this is but still... I must say, she does remind of the Asari in the Mass Effect series.
Oh, don't worry. This isn't a revision, Altarians still look like humans. This look is just for one group. :D

You mean Syreens or hypothermia?
I have no idea what you're talking about. I mean people who have blue skin in the real world, either from a genetic abnormality or from argyria due to the consumption of colloidal silver.
What the heck? I've always had fun in Stardock betas. What did I do wrong? I mean, I didn't beta test Elemental, but still!
Reading the first few pages might answer the whole "blue" question, being as it was rather extensively discussed. :)
That is what I was slightly confused about. Thanks.
Well, Steam supports launchers that manage DLC and other things, as all of these games are on Steam. Also, re: Civ V, I believe it also uses an iteration of the same engine as Skyrim. I could be confusing it for Civ IV, though.
I like the colors all being cool-cold. Also, her eyeliner is epic.
Do something like what Bethesda does with RPGs - give a list of tickyboxes with DLCs (and mods) and let people select which ones they want to use or not use.
If you like 4x games you'd probably like Fe:legendary heroes. whst we would do with a wom remake is start it after the third elemental game is done and creste wom as a branch in that tree. It wouldn't be a major game project. More like a stand alone DLC level thing for players who wanted to see what awOM was supposed to be like.m what shipped, and even 1.4 is not even close to what was originally designed.
It is just one former human, the mithrilar Draginol. And the Altarians do not have human DNA, they simply resemble humans quite closely. Sliders was an old TV series in which the characters were sliding through various alternate universes. The crystal was the Telenanth, which was used to create the Arnor (the more powerful Dread Lords and the weaker but more numerous Arnor). The Telenanth was shattered in a struggle among the five Mithrilar, that left only
Quoting Frogboy, reply 112Cari, the lead developer of all our games (other than War of Magic) is on extended maternity leave. I'm not the lead developer on GalCiv. My area is AI and UI and helping on design elements. Regarding the backstory, this has all been planned, seriously, over 20 years now. Draginol, the Mithrilar, has a name that is derived from a beginning and an end of a previous name.
BTW, strange fact, the Entlebucher mountain dog has blue skin under its fur. No idea why.
Thank you! People all up in this thread acting like blue skin is some kind of bad science fiction made up nonsense need to chill. :D
