Tilyas, This has been mentioned quite a bit. I think they are making some passes on how fast research is being done and what stacks with what. i also think research is going to slow down drastically with the release of Crusade which has features to tie Research, Economy and admin all together.
By the way, was there mention of endgame challenges to prevent snow

My drop down menu lists a certain planet as uncolonized yet the Alterians have in reality colonized it and are actively building it up.
I apologize if I was unaware. I don't frequent the forums as much as I did. Can you link me to the posts which address my concers?
Just fired it up on gifted and got beat by the dregin which was great. Can you give your thoughts on the observation that you can too easily research most of the tech tree on the slowest speed, meaning research proceeds too quickly thus taking away the strategy behind picking techs carefully, and what you plan on doing to spice up the endgame? I noticed that the AI is now more likely to aid their friends. Are AI able to band together near the end if one player is growing too powerful?
I do love AI updates and new features. However, I'm not finding the motivation play many games anymore. Its the damn end game mop up phase that always looms over my head. At a certain point I just start snowballing and would like to see some endgame challenges such as remaining empires banding together against greater threats, be they you or whoever is in first. Stardock's the only ppl I trust with AI but if late game doesn't become appealing, I'm afraid I'm done with stra
Early adoption is less of a financial incentive than a "I want to support the dev, play earlier, and get a couple perks here and there". Not "I'm buying early to save more."
What are fast alliance strategies btw?
Frogboy what are your thoughts about the endgame mop up phase and spicing it up? Great work btw!
I'm finding that I'm blazing through the tech tree and ages way too quickly and the mopup phase comes too soon. In order to extend the early and mid game, I make tech progression the slowest, allow you only to trade techs you've researched, and modify a greatly increased chance for the dreadlords to appear as an endgame crisis. Thoughts? Your personal methods?
That seems fair enough. The people complaining about it being too easy are the ones min-maxing with optimal strategies. It's great that they've found them but it'll be even greater when they're up against an AI that plays just as viciously. I hope that the different races retain their personalities while playing to win. And it wouldn't hurt to give a bump to tech that seems to be overshadowed by more efficient options so we all don't head down the same paths on the tec
Frog
Aside from a complainer or two, I always seen your work held in high esteem in these forums. Whenever Frogboy gets involved, I only see excitement. Maybe I don't come around often enough? Lol
Your AI work is precisely why I've never bought a Civ game or the other space strategy games (unless they're for <$5). I'm not a hardcore player, I've only got maybe 200-250 hours between both Galciv 2 and 3. But I agree with your feelings about the endgame. I LOVE LOVE LOVE the early game exploration and the mid game arms races. But when it got to late game, I found that I was maxing out multiple tech trees and spamming powerful ships. It's fun but it lacks the tense s
I'd like to start by emphasizing for any readers of the thread that no other 4X comes close to the features and potential of Galciv 3 and SD's constant support. I've played Galciv 2, 3, every Fallen Enchantress game and Sorceror King so though I'm not hardcore, I've enjoyed SD's games immensely and enough to provide feedback about why I can't bring myself to sit though another game. Even though the AI, features and polish are amazing, there are iss
thanks erischild! 1) have you tried both a grm race and a default race? 2) do you have mods enabled in your settings? 3) using any other mods?
I apologize for the false alarm. I restarted my computer once or twice and it seems to be chugging along smoothly now.
Hi, I've installed the mod and the compatibility patch and am up to date with the latest patch and hotfix, however I seem to be getting a crash at startup. I was working just fine last night for some reason
I'm not sure what the debug.err is. I ran the stardock thing they sent me and attached it as a file.

I appreciate the quick detailed reply! Thanks a lot
For my own information before I start a new game, I'd like to know if the AI adapts and builds dual defenses in response to my own ships.
Split weapon focus, the AI doesn't build even dual defense ships(I consider this a bug, really - SD broke the AI blueprints a while back). A ship with 3 weapon types can inefficiently kill any AI ship. Larger hulls can be extremely powerful, but if you don't have the manufacturing to produce them or the logistics to make large fleets with them you only waste your time researching them. Get them, but don't rush them.<br /
Personally, before researching weapons, I look around and find the guy I'm most likely to get into a war with first and build a weapon and defense he's weak against. After that, I add a secondary weapon or defense if he adapts. As far as fleet composition goes, I know that some people have some min-max combos of roles but personally, I like to have a balance in my fleet to avoid cheese. Hull size is a personal preference but when you get enough manufacturing points, you'll be buil
I apologize for that mistake. Which I assume whatever is under gifted doesn't get bonuses but uses full ai?
I really appreciate the new way you've listed ships able to be built with your current weapons and defenses. This has been an immense quality if life boost for me because before war was tedious making my own designs for ever single thing. If there's a possiblity, adding even more designs you guys made would be awesome.
As far as I know, gifted ai doesn't get extra resources. And yes I understand that they can be quantity over quality but when you have around 20 decent early game ships and a good economy/research i can't understand how that happens
Without fail against gifted AI, around 50 turns in they have many many more ships than me and are usually beating me in everything but maybe population and treasury. Am I missing a game mechanic that lets me crank out 20+ ships early game? I am always ripe for conquest until midgame.
