Last year I was working on a B5 mod but quit shortly after the official game release. Then life happened and I haven't touched it since. Anyway, here's a link to what I made -- it was created mostly when GalCiv3 was still in beta so I'm not sure if it even still works, but if anyone wants to tinker around with it feel free, you have my permission. https://app.box.com/s/8j8u2oznurk3sekfpoyvk277b32oxpxj

I know there's been a lot of confusion regarding the mod directory structure, so I tried to simplify it to this: directories are only needed if there is a modified file present. For example, in my Zathras mod I modifed the 'FactionDefs.xml' file, renaming it 'FactionDefs_Zathras.xml' and putting it in a 'Game' folder I created in the Zathras mod folder. Here's a screenshot: <img src="https://scon
Here it is -- Reavers ! This changes the Space Pirates that guard some ship graveyards and are, admittedly, kinda cute, into something completely different . Here's a screenshot of it's equipent so you aren't caught completely off-gaurd. <img src="https://fbcdn-sphotos-g-a
No real worries about the spelling -- it could easily have been autocorrect. I figured that was the issue, being set to 0.
@ Niedzielan Thanks for the Amalgemotians (the misspelling is intentional, btw -- pronounced uh-mal-ge-mo-shee-ans) logo advice. You're right, and thus it was given less negative space. I like the concept of be
So, I started this thread because there're plenty of modders here that need a place to share their ideas and work. Feel free to post a link to your custom mods here, discuss your mods here or offer productive counsel on some elses mod if they ask.
I've heard that supposedly, starbases are supposed to culture flip if they're too deep in your territory, but I have never seen this happen, and if it's supposed to work that way, it needs to be a lot easier to do. Like, if you can't even see your own influence in the area, you get 5 turns and then it's gone.
I've wondered about this, too. I've played through a good 6 times on maps Large a

@mortili got it. Thanks everyone. Here's the steps I took in order. 1.) copy the \Steam\steamapps\common\Galactic Civilizations III folder to a backup location 2.) go into Steam and remove the local game data from there. 3.) begin reinstalling GalCiv3, but create a new Steam folder on the SSD (Steam will only install into an empty folder) 4.) when the download starts, pause, then exit Steam 5.) copy the backup Gala
I have a HDD and a SSD in my rig. The Steam game files are on the HDD and I'd like to move them to my SSD to speed up debugging. Can I do this WITHOUT downloading the game again? I'm on a cellular internet so data usage is limited. Thanks!
Working on it. Code ain't right somewhere yet.
Aw heck, I wouldn't really want to know which part's yours. It'd take away from that whole I-love-x-name-you-know-who-you-are thang. ;) Came across another little gem this morning. 'Wishupona Starbase' ... ha! I hope they keep these names (at least SOME) when the finished product is released. Good on you, Founders, Coders and fellow sci-fi geeks!
Perhaps. I'll go take my Adderal (+2 Research Level) and look into Jing. ;)
Hey, just a meandering query here. Would it be possible to create a mod to record the cinematic battle camera? Some of the fleets I'm creating are some tight maneuvers, and I wonder if in addition to posting screenshots of custom ships actual battle footage would be even cooler? Well, okay, I KNOW it'd be cooler, I'm not sure if it could be done. Thanks! ~stonehold
Just finished all thew way through with my first mod and the last planet was named JMSTY. Here's a screenshot. B BBeing all in caps, I had to woindwer if it stood for something. For example, the JMS could be someones initials, and the TY be 'Thank You'. M

Is there a way to mod a galaxy? Say, for example, someone wants to create a custom galaxy with fixed star system points ('Babylon 5' a,d 'Mass Effect' are two examples with locations in specific coordinates and sectors). The GalaxyDefs.xml file doesn't seem to have much room for customization as far as I can see. Is there a different file one could use as a base-line for coding? Thanks!
Yup, got it working in-game. Here's a link to the zipped directory. After you extract it into your \Documents\my games\GalCiv3\Mods\ directory, go to your \Steam\SteamApps\common\Galactic Civilizations III\data\Game\ directory and append both the 'PlanetDefs.xml' and 'StarSystemDefs.xml' with '.1' or some equivalent in order to keep them intact. Edit: btw, this is
Yes! Thank you, @Ronnar! Makes sense, the default images are animated. Fixed the startup screen, too. Doing some more extensive editing on StarSystemDefs.xml and PlanetDefs.xml now. Are there any plans for starbase editor? It'd be really awesome if I could design one to look like B5 orbiting Epsilon III. <img src="https://scontent-dfw.xx.fbcdn.net/hphotos-xap1/t31.0-8/11082450_82416981098686
Shoot! Sorry, don't know what happened -- the pics didn't post, just a buncha gunk. It won't let me edit it. Help? Edit: fixed it. Not used to this forum yet. ;) Post edit: I meant, I fixed the previous post, not the issues stated in that p[ost.
WootwooT for customization! Thanks, Stardock! Okay, I started modding a Babylon 5-based race, Zathras (one of my favorite characters). Some of it's working wonderfully, others not so much. Possibly an error in my code. I've attached three screenshots and copy-pasted to .xml for debugging purposes. <span style="font-size: sm
