Last I checked Gal Civ 3 was in a really good state and was a lot of fun to play. I think what it needs is more content as well as improvement to AI war fighting and diplomacy. I'm under the impression that the next expansion is going to add a bunch of new mechanics like politics. On the other hand, with the 4x market saturated right now, it'll have to make a big impression when it comes to the next expansion. Games like Stellaris have raised expectations.

First in class AI along with the ability to easily make unique custom empires and ships were the two draws that got me to this game. Also, we gotta have politics. Just gotta have those. If Gal Civ 3 wants to go in the full on empire management/4x that's totally fine with me. I'm really looking forward to the new expansion!
Great news! ^.^
I get why they're keeping the cards close to the chest regarding the upcoming expansion, but damn is the wait killing me :)
It was a solid title at release, and as of the current date GC 3 is well worth a buy with some great content that has been added. It could be worth waiting for the big expansion that is currently in the works, but I also feel that 'why wait' is also a legitimate response.
I dunno, I find the the click sound to be really satisfying.
Alliances need quite a bit of work (or reworking) for them to have significant impact on gameplay. As you are probably aware by now, they're pretty much just a tech that enables a diplomatic victory rather than something which introduces a new dynamic to your game.

I would like to see the AI tweaked to make more use of special buildings. I think another pass on how they build planets would be really good, as well as further improvements. I really like how the gal civ 3 AI has shaped up -- it's pretty good, even if there is more room for improvement.
Had this happen once ages ago. Turns out what was left of their pathetic government were holed up in a space station in the middle of nowhere :)
Having some dedicated research planets is a good thing, and it's good that you recognize the importance of having farms on your planets. However, you need to have some planets devoted to manufacturing for the purpose of ship building and infrastructure development. I personally hold roughly to a 1:1:1 principle when it comes to developing planets. This simple ratio refers to how I primarily focus planet development ie for each planet in my empire I <span style
Here I was thinking I screwed up my custom xml... Good to know that it's not me!
Definitely. The starbase update was an absolutely huge leap forward for me, I could never go back from that. It was also a pretty elegant solution in my opinion.
We all know the next big expansion is in the works, as well as another cool update/dlc. One thing I miss are the regular posts by devs on upcoming content, or the the twitch streams where Paul would answer some questions. I keep hearing hints that the next expansion is going to be a pretty huge update and I am really excited to see more little snippets and a dev journal would be really cool.
OK what about this. . . instead of being able to purchase, they make the Tier 1 ideologies cheaper than the Tier 2, etc. The thing that sucks is that you've unlocked a bunch already, a Tier 1 technology can cost like 60 points which sucks. Tier 1 should always cost like 20 or 30 at the most.
So you mean every branch starting at the same fixed price at each tier, with each tier after progres

Sounds like there is a bit more to the DLC -- is there a chance we are getting a shipset for the early Terran Alliance from the previous DLC, and perhaps another Alien faction? Looking forward to it either way!
There are specialised buildings which can drip feed you ideology points (and they do add up if you use multiple buildings). I honestly think being able to purchase them with $$$ is way OP and wouldn't want in an un-modded game.
With my specific custom faction, I rely on the Benevolent tree, with some elements of Malevolent if I can get them. It's funny -- my race is set up to be isolationist, with debuffs to trade/tourism and buffs to ship toughness, logistics, production, etc. So they can go pound for pound against warlike races. The way I utilise the tree is to go first with the benevolent influence building (can't remember what it's called) for my first choice, so that I can exp
I was playing the campaign a few night ago and had this happen.
You may well be right there. I'm flummoxed, though -- this was not an issue at all until the last update. I did not not need to update those zip files.
Yes, the basic templates for the custom set would go in there.
EDIT* OK, I seem to have sorted out most of the issue on my end. I want to leave a bit more info here in case anyone else runs into the same problem. As has been mentioned above, the hint is within the Startup folder, which can be located in the GalCiv 3 Designs folder. This is where you have to place a copy of the relevant obj file into the zip folder labelled objgfxcfg. The second and thi
