With XML modding you can make a civilization that is totally unique and original. Lots of them if that is you desire. There is so much moddability when it comes to Techs, Abilities, Improvements and Traits. Couple that with System and Planet modding and it pushes it even further (Homeworlds can have unique Traits for example).
Thats good to hear, but intimidating. As a hobbie, I have some ti
I'm new to Galciv3 and I was wondering if it would be possible to mod a race based on the following popular SciFi tropes: Zerg, Borg, Xenomorph, the Flood, etc. I'm asking because I'd like to play with such an original faction, but I think that wasn't included in the game nor modded by the community yet. The tropes of this faction should include: http://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/
Thanks for the replies. I'm gla d to see this game still got a community kicking.
Quoting , quoting post And more importantly: How easy is it to customize a new race with a new tech tree now? Is there finally a tech tree viewer ava
Yeah I'm not in a hurry. Maybe my OP gave the wrong impression: the issue isn't the price, but rather the respect that I have for this game, its developers an d the expectations that I have. I'l wait it out I guess. Thanks for the reply. :) Honest question: was this game release d too early?
Giant GVII fan here. I know that GVIII was less than ideal upon release but would continuously improve with time, and I decided to wait it out. Is it worth the price now? How's balance? Diplomacy? The AI? What are the top 5 issues? And more importantly: How easy is it to customize a new race with a new tech tree now? Is there finally a tech tree viewer available? Thank you. ^^
If the majority of HUMANS that will play this GAME want non-humanoid life then it would already be in the series. Just make a Mod.
You're not correct. The law of supply and demand works both way. When a company wants to produce something, they face the dilemma of supplying something that is perceived to be in demand (personal computers and smart phones for exemple, or to use your exam
I've never seen anyone so far stuck in antropocentrism. Also I'm pretty sure Darca is russian.
in reality non-humanoid=animal, not a equil. DARCA
I hadn't seen it that way before, thanks.
Torians are water based. Their ships are full of water. Ants are capable of agriculture and can build bridges. Technology isnt specific to humanoid apes.
if you try to touch any part of your body you can. If you try holding something heavy while running you can, or try to find a creative solution with our complex brains. We don't have to mate in awkward positions. Humanoids can look over their shoulders! That was really handy in ancient times. We have versatile limbs that can kick, punch, climb, run, grab, and jump. Fingers are also a must for ANY intelligent life form. Symme
I'm just assuming Darca to be Russian or something.

Great post, nice read, good points. I'm expecting the elements that make sup the atmosphere of the game (voxpops, politics, colonie events, popups, dialogues, techs, ideologies, maybe even the soundtracks) to be even more tailored to what specific race you're playing. Also So, yeah, actual approved star names. There is no way this is not a joke, because there arent enough <img title
This is so cool. Terrain changing over time.
Sound like this would make a great political game all by itself.
When you attack a planet, you could have different invasion tactics, then you have different occupation options; annexation, enslavement, vassaling, setting up a puppet government, genocide, etc. Its so easy and simple, tons of 4X4 games have implemented a variety of strategies here. I can't imagine Stardock failing to innovate over GalCiv II here.
I played this game only once, 4-5 years ago maybe. Isnt this game supported by a diehard community of fans pumping out patches and mods? As it improved significantly with time? Have you guys heard about the mythical World of Darkness MMORPG that might never come out? It makes my heart ache.
Survival of the fittest means that survival is conditional to how well you fit in your environment, in which case, like its been said before, self-sacrifice, solidarity, altruism and cooperation are perfectly viable strategies. It depend on your environment. And if you look at our ecological system, the libertarian randian doctrine of "fuck you, got mine" isnt actualy well represented in nature, for good reason.
I wish I could just go into "hermit mode" for 5-7 days, with a stash of junk food, and indulge in that game again. Remember the Deb of night? That did a great deal to add atmosphere to the game.
They see everyone else as being equally important, thats different. And like in real life, some are always more equal than others. Maybe they see themselves as superior and different, if they're not quite biological and if they see themselves as keepers of the "balance". And maybe the penalty for threatening harmony is destruction. Get along together, or else, could be their motto.
Would make a great basis for an original civilization, and can be interpreted to follow any of the three ideological paths. Member of the species could be very sophisticated Von Neuman machines and be at the intersection of biological and artificial life.
