Well about tech specialization I think this should be only one path. Maybe this could be balanced by bringing slightly down all the other paths. Maybe the specialized path should be twice as big. There would be techs you would have that you wouldn't have unless you specialized. Maybe you could have specialized units or bonuses on these techs you wouldn't have otherwise. Firstly was to reduce the learning curve as I said, but what I neglected to mention was that it would be nice to add more or a role to the capitals (if they even exist in GC3) rather then just a single planet boost as capitals usually imply governance.
Sorry, Master Chief Petty Officer, I'm afraid I'm not Admiral,
Well, that does look like next-gen.
Steambox is Valve's solution to bring more SteamOs into our houses, through those who want PC that is more powerful than consoles, but less troublesome than PC, especially in terms of DYI.

Starbase is the closest thing we can get, especially if we remember SoaSE variant (government housing). So I don't mind if we will be able to build something similar to Torus from X-series. No need to tell me how it all ended.
Yes, that type of thing works too. The catch is that doing it has to be so expensive in terms of research that I can't go "well I took all the farming tech, now I can catch up on ship tech because I can research 3 of them a turn due to how old they are" type of thing. Most tech trees in games are designed to keep the tech flowing, and thus it's hard for the tech tree to really specialize you.
In most ga

Antagonistic branches? "We need ships, so you'll be eating iron and coal, not wheat and barley". :D I even know one person who could say that. What I had in mind (mostly as blurry outline), is that specializing in one branch (not necessarily mutually exclusive with another) could give you advantage. For example, you went expansively, developing farming, that would give you population growth, so your people could build a lot of older, weaker ships, but in huge numbers. While your o

Not to worry, Tridus! Being a real fan means being there with object of your adoration regardless of that object well-being - be that rain or sunshine. Knowing numbers is just being statistic. Or geek. That's not derogatory.
I'm aware of that, that's why I named them that way. Formally Space Rangers HD is the same game as old Space rangers, but there is some new content added (and I dislike it to great extent, besides I can't turn it off), so I can't name that game to be an "exact remake". Call it a matter of taste. :)
IMHO switching to new mouse is a bit easier than switching to new keyboard. Reminds me of funny case at work, when we had a massive replacement of all old keyboards with newer ones. Newer were kinda cute, less noisy, more comfortable to type, but they were smaller, so we had massive misprint issues. And we work with precise values - construction industry, after all. At the middle of first day with new keyboards we looked like "grumpy cats eating a lemon" parade.

I could be wrong, but brief look over Steambox idea reminds me of "consoles extended" - they have broader specs options than consoles, so they are more flexible. Yet because they have (apparently) only selected array of hardware components, it could make software optimization for that specific hardware easier. So it could be natural middle ground - we have fixed consoles hardware with best optimization possible, free PC market with worts optimization possible, and something inbetween - steamb
Yeah, but those aren't exactly originals.
I think those "capitals" should be "tranferable", and designation should be automatic - planet that surpasses other planets' capacity in certain area should hold title of "capital" automatically. Certain tuning should be implemented, of course - if you build manufacturing improvements on several planets, title could (but shouldn't) jump from one to another as buildinds are constructed. This would reduce micro, and make nation less susceptible to losses of planets and/or actions affect
