FYI - this is happening after an hour of play every single time, to within a minute of game start/load as best as I can measure. Again, all we have to do is wait for the timeout, save and restore so it is hardly a game breaker, in fact we're using it as an excuse to get up and walk around a little, grab a drink etc. :D

Hi folks! Been THOROUGHLY enjoying multiplayer GalCiv3 lately, apparently I'm not alone as there are often several games in progress when I fire up multiplayer. Things are generally smooth, but every 15-20 turns it seems we lose connectivity. Not too much a problem as I just save & restore the session but it's quite regular. Today I took a look at debug.log and found this: Debug Message: 0000028996879C10: invalid HTTP r
My friend and I tried an MP game this evening, with Crusade + Retribution + Intrigue + several more DLCs all enabled. Version 4.1 build 23147 according to GOG. Noticed some slightly different behavior on lobby join during multiplayer session restore, but the upshot is that, whatever you did, IT WORKED!!! I haven't been able to play MP in almost three years, and now it's working!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! CariElf, to yourself and whomeve
Hey CariElf, any news on this bug?
Ohh please have the multiplayer fixes in 4.1! I haven't been able to play MP in almost three years and never really expected it to work, but if CariElf is on the case my hopes are high (sorry CariElf, your reputation preceeds you. :D )
Some more info: 1. Crusade and Retribution (only), fresh gc3crusade directory : Failed 2. from there, uninstall both, fresh galciv3 directory : Success So... miscellaneous thoughts: * I don't think it's anything getting corrupted, since we're able to easily reproduce working/non-working states just by changing which DLC is loaded * wondering maybe if this has to do with the amount of content? Since R
Are you using GOG's interface to disable DLC or the command line parameter?
We're using GOG's interface to enable/disable expansions and DLC. Usually after doing that there's some churn and downloading/updating (to be expected), then we zap My Games\galciv3 or gc3crusade (whichever exists, depends on which expansions we have enabled I guess), start a new multiplayer game (always works!
Hi CariElf, My recent experience with GC3 multiplayer suggests that if you enable certain combinations of mods, loading a multiplayer session won't work (see https://forums.galciv3.com/488497 ). 1. enable Crusade and Intrigue. Success. 2. enable Crusade, Intrigue, and several other mods (but not Retribution). Failure. 3. remove everything. Success. 4. enable Crusad
If you guys are still fixing things, can we maybe get a little love for multiplayer? Something broke at some point and it stopped working for at least a few of us: https://forums.galciv3.com/500326/ https://forums.galciv3.com/488497 Thanks!
Seems I'm not the only person reporting an MP issue. Stardock, can this get a little attention now that I don't seem to be an outlier? There's at least a few other people experiencing something similar: https://forums.galciv3.com/500326 I haven't been able to play MP since April 2018 when I first reported the issue with 3.0 (it worked prior to that).
Welcome to my pain. https://forums.galciv3.com/488497
Hi Sean, Exact same thing (I mean, EXACT same, down to the 2 minute timeout, lobby behavior, etc) if my friend hosts. I've already tried to find someone else to test this with, both on the boards here as well as the GOG boards, to no avail. I can say that every single other game we play -- without exception -- has worked flawlessly. I'm talking P2P stuff like Warhammer:Gladius, Minecraft (hosted locally), Civ6, AOW:
Hi Sean! I am tickled at the unexpected reply, really wasn't expecting much after all the silence. Sequence of steps: 1. I host. Friend joins. We play a few turns without incident. I save the game. We both exit GC3. 2. Start GC3 again. Restore multiplayer session. Goes to lobby. 3. Friend tries to join. He gets "loading..." for around 2 minutes, then it times out. He presses "
Hi guys, Just picked GalCiv3 back up recently, hoping this would be fixed, but this still happens in 3.96. Exact same symptoms we've experienced since 3.0 dropped way back when (this worked fine pre-3.0!!). We can start an MP match just fine and play as long as we like, but trying to restore an MP sessions results in a timeout/disconnect during lobby join. Every time. C'mon StarDock support, I know you're out
The best part about this is when you take over a synthetic planet and the robots start having babies. Or synthetics take over a planet with billions of meatbags and insta-convert them into synthetics, yet building another single pop's worth of synthetics takes their homeworld months. (Missed opportunity: researchable tech that would allow for insta-conversion on conquering a meatbag planet, with percentages and converstion rates getting better with more
Am I foolish to think this might actually be available on GOG today? Enquiring minds would like to know (but aren't expecting an answer), do you have to pay GOG a premium these days to have a game or expansion or patch show up at a particular date/time? Or is the answer always just "it's up when we get to it"?
For the GOG folks out there, a bit of news that you might have missed (there's been no chatter on the GOG forums as far as I can tell): 3.20 was briefly released yesterday. On launch, however, the game crashes and/or can't find the menu font and all menus are blank rectangles. It was pulled and refreshed back to 3.10 sometime this morning. GOG is not saying what is going on, but presumably they are still working on it. &nb
Thanks for the reply pshaw! I'll keep advocating for it but it's nice to get a response. In the meantime my synthetic factions will simply have other races continue grow pop for them. :)
I can say from personal experience that 1. nobody who owns the GOG version is paying much attention to the MP or the GOG forums as I've been unable to find more than one person to play with, and 2. starting and playing MP games works fine in my experience. Restoring a saved session, on the other hand, has never worked for me, and support has not replied to my support post since July or so. Make of that what you will, to me it say
Shameless re-post from the 3.04 thread, which I will continue to re-post every patch until I get a dev response of "thanks we'll think about it" or "thanks but no thanks, we like it the way it is". =---------------= Can you please put in some code that destroys all (or all but 1) existing pop when a planet is conquered by an incompatible civ? I would define "compatible" as Carbon/Aquatic with Carbon/Aquatic. Synthetic only with Synthetic,
Since Stardock support has been silent for the last several months on the matter, I opened a ticket with GOG support. After all, I thought, if it is a problem loading an MP session then the issue is likely in the GOG MP libraries; maybe there was some debug I could enable. GOG support has been prompt and very helpful. Their latest email, which I am quoting verbatim: "I had a conversation with our Galaxy QA Team. In
Did you put the AI on teams? I've experienced the same thing, where you can't take even the first turn if you have teamed AIs -- maybe some pathfinding issue when the AI has disjoint FOW reveals (from the teamed sight). I love GalCiv but the testing and support is feeling pretty haphazard right now. I suspect a lot of Stardock's staff are still focused on Star Control.
Bump again! We tried again this evening with 3.10. Same exact symptom. Starting a new game works fine and we are able to play just fine. Restoring a session DOES NOT WORK. I set up the lobby, my friend attempts to join, and it adds him to the lobby. Then the game hangs on his end with "loading" for around 30 seconds, then says "host closed lobby". After he clicks "done" I can then see him removed from my l
Yor should not bother building pop. Just take it. Why waste all those resources when organics are growing pop for you? When a synthetic race takes over a planet with non-synth pops, they get converted for free. The devs have given no indication that they see this as a problem, so the strategy will probably be good for a while, at least.
Hm. I hope it is still 10% off when it finally lands on GOG. Bit of a bummer if the launch day sale ends before I can even buy it. Edit: it was. :) :)
