You can see why there's that delay. Sounds like it was a fairly simple exploit. You might get on well with your neighbours, but would you want them borrowing a cup of sugar every damn day!!? Constantly asking for stuff gets old quickly hence the delay but maybe GalCiv3 can get around having the delay by making AI a lot smarter about trading Techs/Planets/Money: 1: Here's what I have. 2: Here's what I need. 3: Here's what I wa

I suggest making the Carrier the only ship that has to have downtime between battles. For example, you attack the Drengin with a Carrier in Turn 5. Your Carrier wins. But for the next, say, 6 turns, that Carrier cannot launch it's ships. To avoid the Carrier being a sitting duck between times, obviously it's other weapons are usable for defence/attack, but there's nothing special about a Carrier's weapons over any other ships. I realise Tohron's sugg

Code the AI so that it knows to do one of three options when the Planet it's Colony Ship was headed for has been colonized: 1: As has been suggested, convert the Colony Ship to a Transport to invade 2: Change the Colony Ship's role to Explore - removes it from the now colonized planet, gets it...well....exploring for another planet to colonize. 3: Decommission the Colony Ship. More money for the AI. All choices done depending on what AI t

Hmmm. Soon (tm) may have to become Sooooonnnnn!!! Don't Get Yer Knickers In A Knot, Darnit! (tm) I myself must confess I've been playing a lot of online Flash games, so apart from checking in here pretty regularly - if you call daily "pretty regularly", I'm not obsessessed about GalCiv3's update schedule. I'd prefer Late And Good over Early And Bad.

You suggest having different cutscenes depending on the quality of the planet being first colonized? I agree, colonizing a huge, bountiful, beautiful...ah...4 Tile, ugly, red planet like Mars doesn't tie in with the cutscene of indeed a huge, bountiful beautiful planet, but I accept that that's pretty generic. The "colonizer carrier bag" thingies falling away from the ship are what feels wrong with that cut-scene for me. I'd like to see a cutscene of time Survey sh

How difficult would it be though to simply implement Tohron's idea permanently? When you negotiate Race 1 on the AI screen for the first time, it doesn't show you necessarily everything - planets/ships/tech that Race 1 has? What's shown is dependant on Your relationship with Race 1 plus what your ships have discovered plus rumours/facts you've been told by a third party/another race. The ship discoveries and rumours/facts telling you things that Race

If you were to split from the first UP and form your own, there's a perfect source of conflict right there. You form your own UP with the Drengin. Fine, the Original UP don't miss you anyway, couple of evil tin-pot races and good riddance. But then you try and get the Alterians, a major race with lots of money and resources and a few major (16+) planets to join (something like a culture flip mechanism related to espionage - bribes, getting spies to spre

Again, this is something that could be fiddled with to be very diplomatic, very "A: This thing happens B: This result occurs unless C: this diplomatic state pre-exists the thing happening x D: Random chance of race who's planet flipped to yours not caring/noticing" or left so the Alterians just merrily whistle and look the other way as planet after planet twerks to your race's Miley/grooves to your race's Lorde/whatever :)... I think the reaction of the Planet's previo

But its reasonable to assume that once Race A meets Race B, they might agree to form a UP (whether they formally ally or not) to govern how their two races expansion into the great beyond (ie best use of resources, agreements about which Race gets what etc?) And then they meet Race C, at that point they might decide to invite Race C, Race C might apply or they migh decide to exclude Race C. And so on.

I must say I like the Exploding Colony Ship option - never occured to me. Does that negatively impact on your Ethics in the way a Malevolent choice does? Could it at some point in the future? Would the Alterians want to ally with a Race that kills its own? I guess you could lower the ethical horror by sending the Colony ship on a path just close enough to some system where there's an enemy. Oopsie... Welcome aboard!

Fair points - but I still think your Race shouldn't get to know that the UP exists before they meet/greet another race. By all means, then let the Alterians tell you about those evil Korath Clan so you can know of their existance before you actually meet. But at that point you know only what the Alterians tell you and the Alterians may: Tell you everything they know. Tell you what they want you to know (Tell you of the Korath&#39

I know that, having picked them, all the Races in the game I'm playing are going to exist and that I should meet them at some point. Therefore it's logical I can't have diplomacy with a Race I have yet to say Howdy to. But it's not logical that although I have yet to met the Drengin, I can see they are part of the UP and that they have 22% influence. If I know that then it makes sense I should know how they have that 22% - planets, influence blah blah

I must say I have a thing for things being optional. Obviously within limits - the stupid extreme is selling a 4X game with an option that makes the game RPG or FPS. Keep the core of a game that makes it fit it's genre - obviously 4X in this case so all the central game rules/concepts are fixed - but try and make as much of the peripheral or semi-peripheral stuff as optional as possible. I've always said I'd rather good AI over fancy sounds and graphics so

I think the issue of "I'm tired of/don't like this game, I'll give it to my friend/sell it on Ebay/Trademe/someother website" is dealt with by the purchase price paid by the original purchaser - or if it's not it should be. I know the music industry has for decades built in to it's selling price that Person A will pay $20.00 to buy Album 2, will get sick of it and sell it via Second Hand Record Store/Auction Website/personal interaction with friend/family member (who he/sh

Did anyone ever notice in GalCiv II that it took noticeably longer to get good approval on invaded planets? Not saying it didn't happen, just wondered if anyone noticed if in fact that was how it worked. Which makes whether: A: You've invaded a planet originally owned by the Drengin. You enemy. We hate you. See 'ello to my leedle friend! B: You've invaded a planet originally owned by the Alterians who remember you as a bit of an a-hole. Not as

And what in the name of a Drengin's hairy whiskers is wrong with Wishupona?? I just edit any star names when I colonize, myself, if I feel the name is toooooooo stupid. I'd be happy if they made a mini-Football Manager system for battles: You pick the ships you want to do the attacking, which if your ships attacks which one of the enemy ships, how those attacks occur (tell your ships not to waste time firing their missiles/only fire missiles at frigates/whatever), rules for withdraw/protect based on the situation (outnumbered, damaged etc). Then press Play and cross fingers.... Which sounds like what Ryat's suggesting. So, sweet. I gu

Sounds as if Illauna would prefer a constant state of war/near war.... A: I guess the ultimate question for the developers is: Ultimately, which type of Victory do we want our players to go for? This has it's roots in the developers asking themselves "Which type of Victory would I go for?" Therefore, the developers spend x hours plotting how players get any particular victory but within that always allowing - by a range of means some subtle, some not - a

Maybe make this another choosable option on startup? The longest thing to implement/do would seem entering whole bunch of names that the game would have as a Serious/Realistic Star Name Database that it would use if the Players chooses. Could it be possible to set the system up so it recognizes it's you playing and automatically makes the star you named have one or more class 26 planets around it? So, whatever map size, cluster, yadayada, you always have YourNamedStar with at least on class 26 planet to go to. Making it your starting spot would work, too, of course. If SD don't want to make it that you either already automatically start on YourNamedStar or have easy access to it, have an Eve
