Being alpha, the game is really nice. Some stuff still needs work, obviously, but I find it quite polished and fun. The AI isn't a genius but it does more than GalCivIII's. :p And it's really nice in battles how nearby armies join as reinforcements (a couple units each turn). Scary when you are in the wrong side. :p Very promising future. And it's (relatively) cheap! [e digicons]\o/[/e]

The tiny hulls (fighters) are not necesarily manned in GalCiv, at least for custom civilizations (I read of Yor scoutships being manned by a single unit). Or any other hull. You don't use population to "eject" them from the planet (colony/tranports just for cargo) so as far as the inner storytelling of each game, all the ships may be automated. I certainly enjoyed creating Cylon Raiders in GalCivII (cybernetic as they are in nature). Unless Stardock goes out of the way jus to add
I think flipping star bases is simply too silly for game purposes. But so is flipping planets based on influence. No matter how many McDonalds/Starbucks we open in a country, we aren't gonna flip an entire country to our side. But hey, it's a game right?
Cultural conquest is real. It has been forever. But these days it's global in scale. Building Krusty Burgers may not flip a country but it can be a step in th
Red Skittles 13 can't be a star name because it has spaces.
It was Redskittles before. I assume that "Skittles" is a dev and is part of testing the new system that actually allows for spaces... which have been promised along with numbres. All in 16 characters space! In any case, too much worry about names. Astronomers in the GalCiv universe can be weird in their naming conventions, so what? :p
The reason Stardock went to Steam is simply man-hours, they couldn't spare the people to make two versions of games anymore with their expanded output. (at least that's the impression I'm getting overall- that Stardock right now has a lack of people to do everything they want to do)
They could have made a "GoG"-like version and put it in Steam. They choose otherwise because cool kids integrate with Steamwork

I like the lack of useless hexes in the map. Don't distract my eyes with useless lines! I like the configuration of the screen except that I don't see why such a big space for the manufacturing/research/economics. It also seems to lack access to details like orbital defenses, extra planetary details,... stuff? Edit: USA's (real's world) surface is just 1/3 of Africa. Just saying.
