Hiya everybody. I'm having some issues playing the game particularly concerning crashes. I get them frequently and sometimes randomly. I have submitted a few support tickets and uploaded the relevant files for SD to investigate. My main concern is if the game will be playable on systems with 4 GB RAM as that's the amount I have. I'm worried that the game will crash as it runs out of memory and there is nothing I can do. The game has improved immensely since t

I have had some stuttering as well, which I assumed was the game loading up textures and such. It generally gets better after loading a game and playing a few turns, but it can rear its head again launching the ship designer or new screens. It was suggested to me to disable gel UI which did help a lot. However I still get them and it annoys me, which is why I haven''t played extensively either :(
Never realised how important sound effects are until after I updated...! Inversely some of them are a bit ridiculous. Like the Build command in the Shipyard. Sound effect is too long and if you build several ships it sounds like there is an echo!
Sounds good to me!
I played the demo as well, and from what I've seen it just feels like a mod to Civ V. That would be fine as if it was a mod it would have been a good one: The music's good, the concept's good. However's gameplay is lacking a bit. Lots of content feels missing. Like people said, every civ looks the same. The colours make my eyes cry. Why is everything so muted? Playing Civ V after that feels like going to the kindergarden and seeing rainbows everywhere. The map feels sm
Sounds good. The obvious question is when... :P
The problem is that GC3 is still not completed. So art assets and significant portions of the game are still being worked on. Whatever you do now might be in vain as you might find that it's included in the game when it's released. Similarly, the developers might not go down a certain route so if you try to modify something now it won't work in the final game.
You could de-anchor the starport and move it (albeit very slowly). Now if it was built right next to the planet and it could enter orbit then it could be protected. I haven't tried moving it into orbit, but something tells me it's not doable...
I had that one turned off already for the same reason. :)
The Gel UI worked pretty well. I never realised that it would have such a big performance impact...
That's where the game forces you to make a decision. You could always station a defender in you shipyard if it's near the frontline. In my mind shipyards should not be near the frontline as they are easy targets. Of course you could build them there but you need to defend them! If they enemy managed to sneak past your defences then that's what is called an ambush attack!
One thing that has been bugging me is that when you click an improvement to build from the planet screen, the cost is listed first and the effect second. I would say it's more intuitive to list first what the improvement does and list the cost later. After all when you are deciding what to build, you want to know what each structure does before factoring in the cost. I have also been debating whether it would be better to have all the improvements shown in a grid instead of a list
I have to say that I have performance issues as well. My video card is not the latest (Radeon 6xxx series) but I think the performance got slightly worse with the beta. The major slowdowns I get is when I first enter the game, I assume because everything is loading, when I enter new screens for the first time (ship designer etc) and when I quit the game, where my computer is a bit unresponsive until everything unloads. Hopefully there will be a lot of optimisatio
Well... Interesting but I don't think it's really doable in this game. Speed of ships is also supposed to be tied to the mass around, so in an empty place the ships just wouldn't move much. In your model, ships would start moving 1 tile per turn and they crawl down to 1 tile per two turns etc until they couldn't go anywhere.... It would negate the strategies you are thinking of.
I have checked and I can save and load whether in-game or main menu. I suggest you contact support as The_Gear has suggested...
Well, there's so much more to test now that it actually becomes fun!
It should work. You need to select the file you want to load and maybe the button will light up. If it doesn't work while playing, try going to the main menu and try from there. I'll check later tonight what happens in my game.
Much excited, so drool, WOW! ;) EDIT: I know it's cheesy, but I couldn't contain myself..!
It's raining heavily here now.....
You can yes, just contact customer support and they will help you.
I agree, but by the time you start building decent warships to go to war, you will probably already have researched Planetary invasion. Perhaps it's too stop early game rushing. Sort of a balancing issue. Just hope the Drengin don't start the game with it already researched :P
I know that this is a valid strategy for many people, but I think the whole purpose of this is to delay the attacking and focus on colonising planets in the beginning of the game.
Darca, no need to be nasty. Prometheus is entitled to his opinion and preferences. Calling people and opinion names is not what this community is about. Just have a proper discussion or stop as put succinctly by Island Dog. Please.
Perhaps the Sins of Solar Empires series would appeal to you better than GalCiv. GalCiv is a turn based strategy game better served by a 2D map. In actual reality as well, the length of the galaxy is so much bigger than the height that it's basically 2D :P
I think lots of people have been having this problem, not only with Earth. I'm sure a fix is incoming...!
