I'd like a 4x fantasy strategy game, that's what I voted for. And then instead of a badass ship builder like GC2, you could have some kind of castle builder so people could make massive custom castles (and you could spend points on hardened walls, turrets, moats, gates, etc)

In my last crippling game with 9 opponents they all went lasers. Instead of focusing on weapons I went almost pure defense. My ships would have like 20 shields and 2 missile (mid game, on a medium hull), and I would win with 1 ship vs their fleets. It was funny, but dumb. The only race that was a callenge were the Fundamentalists that formed because they had missiles, but then they were really a threat being a minor race and all.

I think you should display all this kinda of info (CTRL-Ns, Cluster type, etc) in the metaverse, and then let us sort by it. Then we can easily see who is cheesing the game, and who is playing normally. I admit to using tight clusters, but I didn't know it made the AI 'weaker.' However, I am guessing making the AI 'harder' by using no clusters doesn't boost my metaverse score at all, now does it?

If you chose a different races ship design scheme, the ships won't show up. I.E. If you had Yor ships in the first game they won't show up if you are now playing with Terran ships. For the most part though, it is usually better to build ships as you go every game (although it is nice to reuse the same hulls sometimes, because you have them all awesome looking and such)

I have also noticed that on high pop planets (20B+) the natural moral ability seems to start disappearin for some reason which I don't understand. I would nice to know if this is a bug or intended.

There are a couple notable random events that should probably be logged because they can change the course of the game, i.e. Precusor ships, the one that makes all the planets in a huge area PQ11-15, Vengence, etc.

Hehe, I always tried to keep 100% approval even in 1.0X. Now I just get more benefit I have played too many games were not having 100% approval can cause all kinds of problems

Trade goods means that you are sharing the good, not giving it away. You still maintain the bonus. In addiotion, the race you trade it too still cannot trade it themselves, they are only paying to aquire the bonus.

This is a good discussion, and I agree that something in the calculation needs to change. Something to consider about speed though is that at this point humans use it far more effectively than the AI, so giving it a static rating is going to be tricky. What I really like though is LintMan's idea of a War Machine rating. From reading the board, it appears that most good players rarely build any sort of combat ship until they are actually at war (or preparing to go to war). At which tim

Castellon is right, this is a bigger disadvantage for the computer than a human, since once we know about it we just know we have to go straight to stock markets. The computer doesn't know that.

I've also had this happen in all version of the game so far. I actually thought I was losing a turn (basically only getting movement), I hadn't noticed before that the date stayed the same. The best way to check if the computer still getting research and econ and such would be to save/load for several 'turns' and see if their bars flightline or continue to fluctuate. If the computer doesn't get a bonus, then I don't care, but if I effectively lose a turn when I load I will be kinda miffed.

Anytime I have ever seen artifcats like that in a game it is from the graphics card overheating (I only ever seen anything like that when overclocking, but some cards run dang hot at stock now). Do you have the option to limit framerate that was added in 1.0X enabled? If it is already enabled, try opening your case and pointing a room fan inside and try playing the game to see if it still happens. If it doesn't it is almost certainly heat related.
